Spring into action: Flying into April, a flylady April thread

Positivepositron · 31/03/2026 09:03

Welcome to the April thread. This is my first time starting a flylady thread. And I've been doing flylady about a month but very are many on the thread who are years in.

I'm cutting and pasting Hazel's great intro which explains everything:

Whether you're starting to build a new routine, stuck in a rut, or been around for years, join us on the Flylady thread. I'll try to keep us on track for the month, with baby steps, daily missions and weekly zones.

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.
Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out: add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through:
🩷Entryway, porch and dining room
🩷Bathroom & one other room
🩷Kitchen
🩷Master bedroom & master bathroom
🩷Living room

Don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily focus: each day of the week has a different focus.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • S&S: Swish & Swipe (wipe the bathroom sink & toilet)
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, if I can get them to work, she's updated the website! Although if you can, it's worth downloading the newly updated app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇
Daily missions (for the zone we are in): https://beta.flylady.net/daily-mission
Baby steps (on a different website, since the link isn't working on the new site yet): https://mymerrymessylife.com/flylady-31-baby-steps/

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, some of us have been doing Flylady for a very long time, as well as others just starting out. We may have other things to add that we have found works for us that could help you too!

Fly Lady

Welcome!

I’ve not done anything all week! Keen to do something tomorrow though! Any chance of a heads up on what it might be or do I need to be patient?! 😄

I don't think you can find out ahead of time unfortunately. I guess thr theory might be that people might end up trying to do too much if they can see ahead.

Babystrp today is to start the Swish and swipe in the bathroom

Mission is to flip the mattress and make your bed really well.

I did nothing extra yesterday except took 6 more books to the supermarket swap shelf and put away food shopping home delivery.

@CherryogDog sorry to hear about the migraines. That's terrible.

Morning , sending a ☕️ to those that would like one .

Wow, what a work week! Absolutely no flying done apart from the basic make bed , LOL, cooking and clearing the pots. Residential , work deadlines and a burst water pipe ! Just about survived 😂 will be back this evening to catch up on the thread and some ✅ ( hopefully! )

Yes that does make sense I suppose! I just got all eager after doing nothing!

I had and completed a slightly different mission for today, I blitzed the kitchen so that is gleaming now.

bathroom swish and swipe is next on the list, after a couple more work calls.

happy Friday, all!

Positivepositron · 25/04/2026 07:13

Well done on blitzing the kitchen.

Babystep for today is to learn how the routines developed.

No missions as its a Saturday.

Oh and it's the last day in the bedroom. I didn't do loads in here still but did manage clearing/ hoovering under the bed and de cobbwebbing behind the wardrobes and brought my jumpers up from the utility where they have been living to the under bed drawer.
Tomorrow we move to the living room for the end if the month. As we cleared it all for our new furniture it hopefully shouldn't be too bad in here.
But we have guests on Sunday so we will probably actually do a quick blitz of everywhere as we haven't kept in top of it so we'll because of the painting, new furniture and furniture repairs we've been doing. But definitely not too bad compared to normal guest preparations.

Babystep for today is to look at bottom of a flylady email, no idea what that means as I never signed up to the emails.
Zone is now the loving room and I need yo edit the task list. As I mentioned we have visitors today so will mainly be doing a multi room rescue as we've mainly been in the garden this week.
Then maybe a more detailed go at living room from tomorrow onwards. We have drawers in the coffee table that need sorting through and a cupboard behind the sofa. Other than that I think the room rescue today will cover it.

Sorry I've not posted. I've not been home so no flying!
We are on our way back from Disneyland, California. It's a bit of a drive! Luckily I don't have to drive as we're on the bus.

My plan for tomorrow is to do laundry mostly. DH has been home, so should have kept up on the day to day stuff.
I do have another blood test to do for my thyroid, so that'll get done too. Oh, and grocery shopping/ meal planning etc.
And of course, most importantly, I plan on catching up on sleep! I'm so glad I took tomorrow off work to rest.

Good luck with your laundry!

I have a pretty huge pile to fold. I have been drying outside on the lovely weather we are currently having in the uk. But DH has also changed the plug on the dryer which seems to have sorted the heating up issue we were having.

Entertaining went well yesterday but do need to rehoover upstairs as toddlers are mucky!
But rest of the house we got back to ship shape after they left.

Babysttp today is to think ahead to what you'll be making for dinner.

And the mission today for the living room is to really hoover or sweep right up to the skirtings and clean them too.

Morning 🌄 everyone.
Pleased to say I've has no migraines or headaches for three days.
Surprised I didn't have one yesterday, my dick of a neighbour has started having really loud parties on a Saturday night going on til 3/4 am which kept me awake, I was asleep for about 2 hours when DP woke me up coughing.
So I was cranky AF yesterday.
The sort of day where I had to keep busy until the animal shifts were finished.
So very slow flying, horses fed, dogs walked, dog/utility room hovered, dusted, wiped, mopped, bed washed.
Patio had a good hose down.
Went to B&Q looking for plants, sad to see the majority of them dead from lack of water.
Bit of shopping, had a sandwich, straight home for dogs, horses and sofa.
I'm away next weekend and want to get bits and pieces done because it's always nice to come home to things clean and tidy.

SeekingHappinesss · 27/04/2026 11:45

Hello, could I join you all please? My house is a bombsite and I've fallen out of all the good routines I had previously made. Every room needs a good declutter and deep clean. I've done fly lady before and liked the aspect of focusing on one room a week whilst keeping on top of the basics.

Positivepositron · 27/04/2026 15:16

@SeekingHappinesss welcome to the thread. You sound like you are where I was two months ago, and flylady has made a huge difference.

Ta das:
🌼 lol x 1
🌸 dw x 1
🌻 recycling out
🌹 bed made
🏵 bird bath cleaned
🌼 hoovered carpets
🌸 some weeding
🌻 Walked dog
🌹 chose and ordered plants for a newly weeded bed
🏵 Swept fire place where ash had spilled

To do:
🌻 maybe get round to planting sunflowers for the birds and because they are pretty🌻

Hello and welcome @SeekingHappinesss
I've been away from home since Friday so now I just need to pick the routine back up and not slip back. Got a load of laundry on before work and made sure my bed was made.

My living room isn't horrendous but some decluttering is definitely needed so I will be trying to reduce the contents of the cupboards.

Didn't get all the weekly bleurgh done last week so this afternoon I will do the things that got missed so that they at least get done fortnightly.

Positivepositron · 28/04/2026 07:19

Babystep for today is eat good food, drink water and get enough rest.

Mission for today is a detailed dusting in the living room of ornaments, picture frames etc.

We also are coming to the end of the month so need someone to do the thread for May...

OP posts:
Alwaysgrowing · 28/04/2026 09:59

Hello everyone, and welcome @SeekingHappinesss. I've definitely fallen off any kind of cleaning routine. I am 9 weeks pregnant, DH is doing most things. But, Finding mould in my chocolateer was not nice. Also I find the flylady system satisfying. So past couple of days I've been cleaning the kitchen sink again. In May I will come back to you guys. My little dude (3yo) is quite into clothing. The night before he was keen to choose his tomorrow outfit. But by the morning he changed his mind! He would like new clothes but his drawers are full. My DD (8) I don't think has been that into her outfits. She has her favourites but is generally not so bothered. I should lay my tomorrow clothes out.

SeekingHappinesss · 28/04/2026 14:12

Thank you everyone!

I didn't get much done yesterday. I managed to cut my thumb in the garden whilst trying to install a new washing line. I doubt I will get much done in the next few day either. Its in such an awkward place. I will keep on making small changes and may need to start FL properly next week.

katand2kits · 28/04/2026 18:26

Oh dear @SeekingHappinesssi hope the thumb gets better soon. Hopefully you can still get a little done each day, go for easy tasks and be pleased with yourself for getting anything done.

I've been feeling rubbish today so I went for a couple of easy wins in the living room. Cleaned the window and the TV screen. Going to try to get a but of rubbish out of a drawer whilst "encouraging" DS with homework. Because we were away for the weekend, there is now a backlog of laundry.

BloomingHazel · 29/04/2026 05:23

👋 @SeekingHappinesss! Welcome to the thread. I'm sure it won't take you long to get back into the swing of things.
I hope the cut wasn't too deep!

Positive I might be able to run the May thread. My energy levels are rock bottom right now, but I could just need to have more focus. I'll give someone else a chance first though, and run it if no one else does.

kat I hope you feel better soon 💐

Always finding mould on your chocolate sounds terrible! Most definitely need to replace that!

I seem to have developed a sore throat 🙄 I've been drinking tea with honey all day, with no relief. I'm hoping it's nothing, but it's going around so it wouldn't surprise me.
I was going to list my ta das, but I keep nodding off. So I best just call it a night, hopefully I can put them on tomorrow.

EasterDecoration · 29/04/2026 08:20

Just popping in to say I will run the thread again one of these days but am on holiday at the moment so don't want to do May. Welcome to all the new Fledglings, lovely to have you on board, Flylady has made a big difference to my house and life.

Positivepositron · 29/04/2026 10:02

Babystep is to set aside time for a weekly pamper.
Mission is spend max 15 minutes removing from your living room anything that doesn't belong there.

OP posts:
Alwaysgrowing · 29/04/2026 14:17

Hot chocolate maker, not like a chocolate bar. I didn't replace it, but washed it in hot soapy water then used a sterilising tablet in it.

Positivepositron · 30/04/2026 09:33

Babystep is to check your calendar for what you have on for May.
And the daily mission is a detailed hoover of the living room.

I must confess I have not really done much in the way of anything this week. Changed the boys bedding. Kept on top of dishwasher and clothes washing and drying but loads to fold. Hoovered. That's probably it so far.

OP posts:
Positivepositron · 30/04/2026 09:34

Oh nearly forgot, still need someone to run the thread for May...any volunteers

OP posts:
EasterDecoration · 30/04/2026 22:22

If there's no one else wanting to do it I'll start a new thread in the morning but posting is going to be a bit limited till next week as I've only got my phone and am not doing any flying while I'm away: I do get the emails and have got the app though.
