Spring into action: Flying into April, a flylady April thread

Welcome to the April thread. This is my first time starting a flylady thread. And I've been doing flylady about a month but very are many on the thread who are years in.

I'm cutting and pasting Hazel's great intro which explains everything:

Whether you're starting to build a new routine, stuck in a rut, or been around for years, join us on the Flylady thread. I'll try to keep us on track for the month, with baby steps, daily missions and weekly zones.

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.
Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out: add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.
There are 5 zones that we will rotate through:
🩷Entryway, porch and dining room
🩷Bathroom & one other room
🩷Kitchen
🩷Master bedroom & master bathroom
🩷Living room

Don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily focus: each day of the week has a different focus.

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • S&S: Swish & Swipe (wipe the bathroom sink & toilet)
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, if I can get them to work, she's updated the website! Although if you can, it's worth downloading the newly updated app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇
Daily missions (for the zone we are in): https://beta.flylady.net/daily-mission
Baby steps (on a different website, since the link isn't working on the new site yet): https://mymerrymessylife.com/flylady-31-baby-steps/

Feel free to ask any questions you may have, some of us have been doing Flylady for a very long time, as well as others just starting out. We may have other things to add that we have found works for us that could help you too!

Fly Lady

Welcome!

Looks like some productive days have been had!

Fairly good here, had a serious declutter in DDs room and it looks much better now. Looking forward to attacking my own room next week. It definitely needs it!

Searchingforsparkle · 18/04/2026 19:26

Haha @THAThotcrossbunnyyour saying had stayed with me for years 😂

CherryogDog · 18/04/2026 19:30

Yesterday my right foot started hurting, then I pulled my back.
Today I'm lurching around like a drunken sailer. But...
TaDa ✅️ Front room tidied up, dusted and hoovered.
TaDa ✅️ All downstairs hoovered.

Well done for getting stuff done with a sore foot but don't over do it if it's bad.

Babystep is to read a testimonial.

Morning, sending a ☕️ to those that need it.

i have had hardly any sleep again, DH offered to sleep in the caravan in case it was his snoring keeping me up (he is a very loud snorer 😂) but i messaged him about 1ish to say if he’s still awake to come to bed . Woke up about 530 , tried to get back to sleep but nope , not happening .

🥳 coffee in peace, relaxing looking at patterns

I’m about to get started so I’ll be back with a tada list in an hour or so 🙂

Searchingforsparkle · 19/04/2026 08:54

Tada

🥳 the weeks worth of clean washing is folded ready to take up to rooms once everyone is up and about

EasterDecoration · 19/04/2026 09:04

@Searchingforsparkle @THAThotcrossbunny @BloomingHazel I’m in occasional private contact with Zoo and she’s ok, the Zoolets are grown up too now.

BloomingHazel · 19/04/2026 17:28

ED that's good to hear! I'm glad she's doing okay.

Cherry your description of lurching around like a drunken sailor made me laugh, I'm sorry! I hope you're feeling better today 💐

Searching I'm sorry you're still having trouble with sleep. Hopefully you'll notice an improvement soon, I think vitamins can take a couple of weeks to make a difference as they have to build up in your system.

Positive it sounds like you have a good plan for organisation in your bedroom! Hopefully it works out the way you're hoping.

kat well done on decluttering DDs room!

Yesterday DH & I helped ILs replace their fence that got destroyed in the last bad wind storm we had. DS & his friend joined us later. We will be going back over today to finish it up. We had to wait for the concrete to set.
There shouldn't be too much to do today, thankfully. All of us were feeling it in our backs last night (except for the boys since we did most of the heavy lifting before they got there 🙄 and they're young!).

We really need to empty and refill the hot tub today too, but not sure if we'll get to it.
I need to go grocery shopping as well and redo my nails. I got Disney nail stickers to put on them.
DS & I are going to Disneyland California for a band trip (there's a competition) this week. I'm excited about being in California, not as excited about the 14 hour bus ride there and back though!

Positivepositron · 19/04/2026 22:43

Im continuing to rebel and have not ventured into the bedroom again.
Ta das:
🌼 dw x2
🌼 lol x 1
🌼 another bag from junk room ready for charity
🌼 wicker basket found in junk room is now housing spare toilet rolls and baby wipes in the bathroom which does look much neater
🌼 cleaned inglenook/ hearth area
🌼 vase and candlestick retrieved from junk room now displayed on windowsill in bathroom

Today's babystep is to include laundry in your routine. I actually have a prompt for laundry in my morning, afternoon and evening routine even though I don't do laundry every day I find the reminder useful to keep it moving when I do have laundry to do.

Today's mission I already did when me and DH were making adjustments to the bed and it really had needed doing.
Today's mission:
This week we are in the Master Bedroom, today I want you to spend 15 minutes under your bed! Take this time to get the things out from under the bed that you have shoved under there during a mad stash and dash through the house. 15 minutes might not be enough, but for today just try to put a dent in the stuff that you have put there. Things that just don't belong. If you don't have anything under your bed, then grab a vacuum cleaner or broom and get the dust bunnies that have been multiplying under there.

Morning all, hope you've had nice weekends.
Definitely doing laundry today, but I need to put away the three loads that are on the laundry rack/ in the baskets too.
Plus a heap of towels and throws.
Don't know why putting laundry away is so hard for me!
@BloomingHazel thanks for the flowers! My foot is OK and my back is good except when I try to get out of a chair.
Had a lovely dog walk yesterday, I try to go somewhere new every week.
Happy flying everyone!

Im the same with laundry. I can manage the washing and drying stage but the folding stage does build up. Though when I do it right away it's much easier, once theirs more than one load I let it build up.
My dryer plug has randomly started heating up but luckily weather is good so drying out but that slows me right down.

Ta das for yesterday:
✔️ made bed
✔️ 2 x dw
✔️ 1 x lol
✔️ shopping for replacement polo shirt for DS, some trays for my kitchen cupboard, paint samples for my porch, new light fitting for living room, new plug for dryer
✔️ tea/coffee/ vitamin cupboard cleaned and arranged with top two shelves content on trays so I can pull tray down. Very pleased works just how I wanted and looks much better and now cleaned sorted 7 out of 21 kitchen cupboards
✔️ dog walk
✔️ painted big patches on outside of porch and chosen colour

Today's babystep is to check out Ask Flylady

Today's mission:
Today is the day to attack the clothes pile. Now you all know what I am talking about. This pile is either on a chair, on top of the hamper, dresser or at the foot of your bed. Set your timer for 15 minutes and grab some hangers or start folding. While you are doing this do not hang up or fold something that you hate. This is the time to let it go! If you do not love it, send it right out the door.

My pile can get pretty bad, though fairly mini at the moment yey! I like the idea of checking if anything should be charitied or binned at the same time. I will definitely try and do this today. And try and move my clothes from the utility where they currently reside into the underbed drawer.

Hello everyone, hope you've had a productive day.
Got a bit of decluttering done in my room, there is loads of crap that has been there for years, and demoulded the window area where there had been condensation. Did not put away any laundry but there isn't a ridiculous amount to be honest so that can get done tomorrow.

Positivepositron · 22/04/2026 06:54

Well done on your decluttering.
Today's babystep is the control journal.
Today's mission is to clear and polish your nightstand and put something pretty on it.

I still haven't done any bedroom jobs.
But am going to let myself off as I've started painting the porch which wasn't as quick a job as I thought it would be. But very pleased with how it looks. Though I now need to keep going and finish it and the front door could really do with repainting as well.

EasterDecoration · 22/04/2026 16:52

@Positivepositron I'm glad someone else has got a tea/coffee/vitamin cupboard Smile. Ours is in the corner and the bigger things are standalone but all the small stuff is in baskets to pull out, it does make it all easier and tidier.

I sorted my decluttered clothes pile today and put a load for the charity shop in my car meaning to take it round at lunchtime (there's one of those warehouse drop-off ones near here) but forgot and they close at 4, I won't be here again this week so that's annoying, will have to find somewhere else to drop them.

Positivepositron · 22/04/2026 17:42

@EasterDecoration yes it does make it easier, so much so I went yo buy more for a corner cupboard. Haven't got round to doing it yet.

Ta das today:
🌞 DW x 1
🌞 Lol x 1
🌞 jumpers into underbed drawer
🌞 finished painting
🌞 planted 3 plants

Not done too much today, just the basic stuff like laundry and dishwasher, and I did put away a big pile of clean washing.

Scourgify · 23/04/2026 05:22

Lovely sunny windy day, swept some leaves, cut back several branches that were overhanging the path and TeenBoy has had to duck under. Sweeping and weeding path. Cleared two kitchen windowsills, washed the windows.

Got the PE kit washed and hung up ready for Friday. The first time in a long time that I’ve managed this.

Tomorrow is landfill bin day. Today I’ll be going round the house looking for non-recyclables. And continuing tackling the kitchen.

Positivepositron · 23/04/2026 06:55

@Scourgify you've done loads yesterday!

Babystep today is to set your afternoon routine in place.

Mission is to clear your dresser.

OP posts:
BarbarianBabs · 23/04/2026 20:46

I’ve not done anything all week! Keen to do something tomorrow though! Any chance of a heads up on what it might be or do I need to be patient?! 😄

CherryogDog · 23/04/2026 23:13

All my laundry is done, most is put away.
Adding to my charity clothes bag.
Been selling some stuff on ebay.
Not much else done, I've been waking up with migraines most days and by the time the meds kick in it's the afternoon.
