Why don’t duvets or sheets state their size?

Cleaned out the linen cupboard this morning. We have every size bed from super king down to single and in sorting out the cupboard I realise 90% of our sheets/duvet covers/duvets don’t state their size and the duvets their tog! How hard can it be?! Is this a thing? Does anyone label their linen?

The White Company do label the sizes.

Nickyknackered · 08/03/2026 19:02

Mine does from Next.

Oh god yes.

A big white sheet, vs another big white sheet

I had to make Dp get the tape measure. Then I realised we had old ikea stuff mixed in which meant we had almost every cm between 150 and 200 😂

I was actually just thinking that today!! Has anyone ever gone through with a sharpie and written on the sheets single, double, king etc? I was also thinking I might write long side and short side on the super king duvets as I always get them turned around.

goz · 08/03/2026 19:07

I think every cover and sheet I own says the size?

BillieWiper · 08/03/2026 19:07

Unless you only have single plus one other type double or bigger sized bed then it must be confusing. Yeah they totally should. Even if they could use numbers like 1 is single and super king/biggest is 4 or 5 or whatever.

I saw on Etsy you can buy these little buttons that you clip on @Xiaoxiong

I don’t know why ours doesn’t - it’s a mix of ikea, habitat, Argos, John Lewis, Sainsbury’s etc.

Mine certainly dont, I have Laura Ashley, Sainsburys, Aldi, Lidl, Ikea, John Lewis, Dorma probably others.

Coconutter24 · 08/03/2026 19:26

Are all the beds in your house different sizes? Like single double king?

FourForksSake · 08/03/2026 19:29

Just write on the label with a laundry marker. Agree that plain white sheets are the worst.

I did read a tip that the label should go on the bed’s bottom right (or top left) which helps get the super-king sheet the right way around.

SydneyCarton · 08/03/2026 19:37

We have three singles and a king, so bed linen is okay but for the life of me I can’t fit the bloody king size duvet into the cover the right way round. I did learn on here that the quilting lines should run across the bed but the fucker is sewn in squares and there’s a minute difference between the long and “short” sides. Even when I check the label position I’m never sure.

Xiaoxiong · 08/03/2026 19:52

@SydneyCarton I'm this close to pulling out the sharpie and writing "horizontal" and "vertical" on the sides of my duvet. I'll do it if you do!!

RandomMess · 08/03/2026 19:57

Game changer we moved to single quilts on the super king bed 🥳

hexsnidgett · 08/03/2026 20:00

I have recently had a sort out, most don't say on the label frustratingly. Some asda ones did iirc. Sharpie a d, s or k on the others.
New ones are bought in distinctive colours or patterns!

SydneyCarton · 08/03/2026 20:07

@Xiaoxiong God, yes, let’s do it! I think I did Sharpie the old summer weight one which was awful but I got a new one from M&S and haven’t marked that yet. The heavier feather duvet we have in winter isn’t so bad as it does actually have a label.

And don’t get me started on duvet covers with buttons! Why don’t they have those snap things anymore, are buttons posher or something? I managed to wreck one of the kids duvet covers by assuming, incorrectly as it turned out, that it had snaps and just ripped it open…

Booooooooom · 08/03/2026 20:24

One duvet cover has the words side and bottom on the sides which is really useful but only on one 😂

Plastic poppers can melt in the tumble dryer.

ExOptimist · 08/03/2026 20:35

My sheets from m&s state the size on the label, they say either Sgl or DBL at the base of the label.

I have 5 different tog duvets ranging from 1 tog to 10.5 togs. They are from m&s and John Lewis and each one has the tog clearly showing on the label.

likelysuspect · 09/03/2026 08:57

Ive spotted another culprit, changed the bed this morning, the sheet is House of Fraser, dont even know if they exist any more. Anyway, no indication of what size. Its only because I wrap up my kingsizes in their respective duvet covers that I know whats what but when Ive got spare sheets sitting around I dont know what they are.

PashaMinaMio · 09/03/2026 09:06

I’ve written the sizes on all my fitted sheet labels and …. drum roll please, I’ve marked the shelves in the airing cupboard with sizes so I file everything more easily. 🤷‍♀️

(Isn’t it what you do on a rainy afternoon?

Seawolves · 09/03/2026 09:14

I wish my king-size duvet had a label to say which was the top/bottom, it is almost square and I can never figure out which end is which!

Holymolyrigmorole · 09/03/2026 09:16

I’ve written which bed the bottom sheets go on as every bed in our house is different
Super King -ours
King - spare room
Double and single (triple bunk bed) DC2
Small double DC1

Bottom sheets are a nightmare! Then there’s the old ikea duvets and covers before they moved to UK sizes. I also look after my FILs laundry which is complicated by the ikea issue for one of his beds, but not the guest room. Urghhh

Thanks for the thread OP it’s been good to get this off my chest as it’s not the sort of moan I’d do in front of the family or my friends!!

thatsthatsaidthemayor · 09/03/2026 09:18

I bought stamps that name children’s clothes. Super King. King and double. Labelled myself. Now I know which way around the duvets go!
