Thought I'd start a thread for us dedicated to streamlining our homes 🙂

@WearyAuldWumman don't feel guilty. It's just stuff. So freeing.

I've had another push this weekend. I'm now on 1,639 items out this year but my target is 5,000 so I'm very behind! Not all these items are actually out of the house yet either... I'm selling what I can and it's taking time, though I am actually making a reasonable amount so it is worth the effort.

LushLemonTart · 23/08/2026 19:12

Brilliant news @GreaterCassowary .

I sold a laminator on Facebook market place. I've put an electric stove on there too. I have guitars to sell but we're away for a few days so I'll list them afterwards. I also decluttered a lot of stuff yesterday and changed round my living room. Looks rather posh now. We've been moved almost 7 weeks. Still stuff needs doing.

I joined a Facebook page called 'We ain't Swedish but we're into death cleaning and clearing'. Some good motivation on there. I think it's mainly Americans?

Just sold an electric stove on Facebook market place. They were very pleased with it. Would cost nearly 300 if they bought new. I sold it for 40.

I finally got started in my kitchen, cleared the larder cupboard of all the out of date food, shocking amount of food that's made me feel bad.
My dining table is covered in stuff waiting to be removed.
I'm about 2/3rds done in there.
Soon be able to start cleaning without moving piles of stuff.
Feel so much lighter!

I’m having some success, despite the hot weather, the fatigue, the holidays and other things going on:

34 items of school uniform to the school shop
2 blouses to the charity shop
Some things boxed up and put in the loft
8 items of clothing to the baby/children’s bank

The first blouse (nice, linen, M&S) when I took it to the charity shop I ironed it and put it on a hanger. The lady immediately took it off the hanger, threw the hanger away and crumpled the blouse into a sack! You can’t win sometimes…😂

My main aim is to improve my office/workroom as it just becomes a dumping ground and I feel oppressed by it in there.

Not had much more progress as have been very busy with life, but I have a couple more projects planned.

Tomorrow some folders are arriving so I can clear out my DC’s old schoolwork and put it into storage, then set up their school area for their new subjects.

Reorganising my workroom remains a plan…

A family member visiting prompted me to declutter our hallway shelf which is very narrow but somehow attracts clutter. I bought a couple of nice narrow boxes from Amazon which have slots for storing hairbrushes, sunglasses and other oddments. One box each. I can post a link if anyone is interested?

I nearly had a moment of pure madness when visiting the above charity shop, to drop something else off. I saw a nice top and thought ‘Ooh, I want something a bit like that..’ but then realised that it was my own blinking top that I had dropped off a couple of weeks ago!

@BadSkiingMum

😁. Think we might all have been there with the potential buyback of our own stuff

LushLemonTart · 02/09/2026 14:46

@BadSkiingMum sounds like you've done plenty. And yes also been there at a charity shop admiring a dress I'd donated 🙈🤣

I've sold the stove and a chest freezer. Am taking a few sleeping bags to the Salvation army tomorrow. There's some like new. Charity shops don't take them. I already knew that.

It’s bizarre isn’t it?! I think it must be the visual familiarity of the item making it look extra appealing. It feels like it should be ‘yours’ for the obvious reason that it used to be!

Anyway, I put one old teeshirt into textile recycling. I had tried to brighten it up using Glowhite so that it could go to charity or the baby bank but that doesn’t seem as effective these days.

LushLemonTart · 05/09/2026 10:48

We took a big bag of miscellaneous stuff to the charity shop yesterday. Still have a big box of stuff here. The house is looking clearer though.

Hello all. Am also trying to declutter and make life easier for myself. Enjoyed reading the tales of comical mishaps, the carefully cleaned, ironed top on a coat hanger immediately stuffed into a bag at the charity shop and someone nearly rebuying their own clothes GrinGrinGrin That is my kind of trick.

LushLemonTart · 05/09/2026 13:10

Welcome @efeslight .

Are you settled in your new home @LushLemonTart now?
I keep saying that I'm going to move, DP doesn't want to.

I've cleared my kitchen, booked an Anglo collection for the 15th, 6 bags of clothes went to the Sally Army bin.
I gave away the Systema plastic boxes that I'd only just got because I found the lids really hard to get on with my knackered hands, replaced them with Lidl tupperware fakes.
I've found a selection of lids and can't bring myself to get rid in case the boxes turn up. Same with a couple of odd socks.
Now I need to work out a system, what goes where, I need more (better) bathroom storage as I've no where to put tall bottles (I've got so much shampoo and conditioner I'll probably die before it's all used up).
I've got 2 areas left to tidy, my indoor horse cupboard, it's spilling into the dining room, and a small pine chest with sentimental stuff in, old photos, kids certificates etc. I think that will be hard.

Happy Sunday everyone!

LushLemonTart · 06/09/2026 10:39

Yes thanks @CherryogDog . Still got a few pictures to put up etc.

We're away in Greece from the end of this week so will get back to decluttering once home.

I have discovered that I have FIVE bottles of Elka wood floor cleaning fluid. I'm too much of a skinflint to throw them out. I did have two bottles of the protective coating stuff, but used one up this week.

I still had one of those hammer in fence post things cluttering up my utility room. (Yes, I know...)

Hammered it in this week (in the back boundary) so that's it out the way and a minor job done.

I'm forcing myself to put out glass jars instead of saving them in case I need them. Have stuck an old cardigan in the rag bag, ready for the recycling centre.

LushLemonTart · 06/09/2026 14:13

@WearyAuldWumman i know what you mean about glass jars. Dh sometimes buys those desserts in gorgeous glass jars. I force myself to recycle them. They'd be useful to someone just not me.

Hi @LushLemonTart and all good decluttering folk! Newbie here.
I am having some people round next week for a meeting, so this has made me think about the room where they will be in, in a different way! I realised that the scented candles, mostly used a bit, made the fireplace look cluttered, so I put them in a box on the pavement. Then I looked at the fireplace area again and decided that I didn't like the pot plant either. All had been presents.
They have all been taken, to my surprise.

It was a decent start and the room already looks bigger, IYSWIM.
