Thought I'd start a thread for us dedicated to streamlining our homes 🙂

Right, one more set of shoes out with the recycling and two old debit cards finally disposed of. Obviously they weren’t taking up much space but they had been hanging around on the edge of my desk (where I could see them every day) for well over a year, so definitely taking up mental space!

BadSkiingMum · 19/05/2026 11:02

I have my Ebay mojo back and listed 20 items at the weekend. I did the photos, descriptions and listing all at once, with the ironing board set up and ready too!
Anyone else? @LushLemonTart @CherryogDog

LushLemonTart · 19/05/2026 11:55

Well done @BadSkiingMum

I'm on holiday at the moment. It'll be all go when we're back. Selling and donating. I don't think there's much rubbish.

You move is coming up isn’t it? I hate moving but it certainly concentrates the mind!

We once moved into a house owned by a hoarder (viewing it was tricky, to say the least!) and apparently they phoned the solicitor in a panic about a fortnight before completion saying that they needed an extra month, which fortunately was fine by us as we weren’t moving in straight away. The house was empty, apart from a load of old furniture out the front, but the neighbour described them as having ‘worn a groove’ in the pavement to the nearest charity shop! 😂

BadSkiingMum · 27/05/2026 16:27

I sold and have posted seven items on Ebay, so that’s something.

Plus a few items to the school uniform shop, so that’s also progress.

ViciousCurrentBun · 27/05/2026 19:56

We went through the key bowl and gathered all other spare keys and padlocks. Matched them up and labelled them all. We got rid of about 20 keys. It was not a huge amount of stuff but glad it’s done. Also went through my first aid kit and all medical stuff. Took 4 packets of out of date prescribed meds to the pharmacy, not antibiotics as always finish the course, plus a couple of dressing’s where the packet had ripped so no longer sterile.

We have also gone through all DS stuff in his room and he got rid of a lot of stuff. Some to charity and some to the top. Broke up old wood from a shed and took to the tip.

BadSkiingMum · 30/05/2026 09:31

Oh well done @ViciousCurrentBun.
This is a bit random but am I correct in remembering that you used to be a midwife?

It’s funny how small items like keys can take up excess mind space. See my debit cards above!

One more item sold on EBay.

LushLemonTart · 30/05/2026 16:11

Well done you two.

I have a pile of clothes waiting to go to the charity shop.

Joining in, have had half term off from school. Decluttered several bags of clothes to the charity shop, tidied the bathroom and got rid of the chrome round the sink storage. Have managed to read some books and sent them back to the charity bookshop. Cleared out a whole load of kitchen bits , plates, cups, a filter coffee machine. Today, I have scrubbed the oven so I am counting that as decluttering the grease.
Am working on decluttering another 7 stones, lost almost 2 so then will be able to do a major declutter as every available cupboard has suitcases of smaller clothes in them.
Am going down a size at a time and donating stuff straight to charity as Vinted never seems to go well.

Wow you're doing well!

My bag of clothes got bigger yesterday. Bin bag full now.

I'm putting some tents to sell this week, probably on gumtree. Also bunk beds. They were expensive but when we move they won't be practical.

Also well done on the weight loss @Hippywannabe

@BadSkiingMum Not a midwife but I did nursing when I was very young, it didn’t last long as wasn’t for me. I’m having a birthday party soon and am now repainting the kitchen. I did go through the glasses and cups and get rid of a couple, not many but I didn’t have a huge amount. I did find all the disposable plates and bowls though which is great as don’t need to buy anymore, we have a couple of very high kitchen cupboards and I have to stand on a chair to get in them.

Im going to do skem gardening this afternoon, DS is assisting and can work twice as fast anf is about 50 t8mes stronger than me. I’m also going to tackle the shed as DH is in London. He is very untidy within cupboards if that makes sense, which has been one of our issues. He couldn’t fins his umbrella this morning for instance, he has taken a purple umbrella covered in stars. It kind of matches his dark grey suit,

Can I join?

I have very limited time but something needs to be done with my house as I’m drowning in clutter!

2DCs that no longer live at home but have left lots of their things behind, DPs who have both passed away but I still have half of their possessions stored in one of my rooms - making that room completely unusable and myself and DH who both have a fair amount of clutter! The whole house needs decorating but as it is nothing can be done just yet.

I’m going to be realistic and aim for the whole house to be clutter free and organised by the end of June 2026! Then we can think about making our home lovely again.

I can commit to 30 minutes a day at the moment, starting on Wednesday. So, Wednesday I will spend that 30 minutes in DDs bedroom.

How’s it going @Lostand44

BadSkiingMum · Today 16:05

Thanks @ViciousCurrentBun, perhaps I am remembering someone with a similar username.

Well done everyone, some minor progress here in that I sold a few more EBay items. But it does make a difference. I had all the items on a clothing rail and now that rail is nearly empty.
