Summer holidays can be crazy! Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day has a different mission for the zone we are in.

Daily focus:

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you. Although there are some issues with the website and app right now, so bear with me!

There are no missions on the weekend.

Look at your calendar for next month. Are there any birthdays or other events coming up? Add cards/gifts to your shopping list now so you're ready for when the day comes.
Continue with your other routines.

I'm now on a 4 day weekend!
We had a football game (American football) we went to last night, as DS was playing in the band. The football team is so bad it's embarrassing 😳!

Anyway, I have lots of laundry to catch up on, groceries to list and buy.

On a side note, I'm pretty sure my back pain I have right now is from constipation (TMI, I'm sorry!), so that sucks! Never had issues like that before, so it's alien to me!

I have now dropped a work day (Monday) to spend more time with my little kids. I 2 two weekend shifts a week that I can swap/ give away/pick more up. I swapped todays one so am only working Tuesday until back to school on Thursday. So sort of a 4 day weekend, with Tuesday in the middle for me.

HazelNotHungryLC · 30/08/2025 16:26

Ta das (so far):
☕️ 1st lol in washer
☕️ repotted orchid that belongs at work
☕️ soaking one of my orchids to repot it too
☕️ sipping on my 3rd cup of coffee

I'm currently working on the grocery list, I still need to finish getting ready for the day and will do that before I leave the house (hair, little bit of makeup etc). Family dinner is at our house tonight, tomorrow we plan on going out for a drive (so I can't get too carried away with laxatives!) Sorry for TMI, again!

Flylady wise, I've just seen lots of dirt but have no energy. And I can't decide what to do. I have lots of admin tasks and am feeling emotional about the start of school and my littlest bit s starting nursery too. I vaxed the living room rug on Wednesday after ds threw cereal all over it. To dos:

Vacuum high traffic areas

Write a plan for weekly home blugh. I could now do it on Mondays, or discuss different tasks for different people. DH thinks much of those jobs don't have to be weekly and I don't have an option either way....

Clean dining room table for in laws visiting tomorrow.

HazelNotHungryLC · 30/08/2025 16:34

Alwayslearning25 why don't you have an option either way? I see it that of you want to do something each week, do it! You don't need his approval!
For example, I wash the sheets every Tuesday, DH used to think that it was a little much, but before flylady (and this job, where I'm off every Tuesday) I didn't have a set routine for it. It could be 2 weeks, or even a month or more (which grossed me out, even back then). But now, he appreciates the clean sheets every week and I feel calmer each night, so it's easier to fall asleep.

Can you set a timer for 5,10 or 15 minutes and just do one thing on your list? Would that be a little less overwhelming?

Alwayslearning25 · 30/08/2025 17:18

I'm not looking for his approval but to delegate.😂

HazelNotHungryLC · 30/08/2025 17:41

Oh, that makes much more sense! 😂

I guess also, it's not very motivating. I feel so drained. I had a 10 minute nap then woke up when dd2 started screaming for me when he woke from his nap. DH settled him slightly but he was grumpy and wanted me. I have a low level cold and it's dark and rainy, a college said we all want to hibernate. Also, I'm the only one back at work, have been for 3 weeks I think, maybe 2. DH is getting more morning sleep and we're all up slightly later. Except my 2 year old. The hour and a half with him this morning felt like all day. DD school starts Thursday, I think well start getting up early as a family from Monday. Maybe I'll have a lie in tomorrow, but I'm not good at them. DH has done things with kids, took them grocery shopping and did baking. Since my last post I have done a tiny bit over hoovering and tidying up toys. Timers are great. But I need to pull myself out of the naughty corner.... maybe on Monday.

HazelNotHungryLC · 30/08/2025 18:37

Having a break and starting again on Monday sounds good, new month and all that!

I've done a couple more LOLs, straightened my hair and got a little bit of makeup on.
I've added a few things to my shopping list, but will soon need to go shopping.

Gone are the days when I could swap a room around in a couple of days! It’s taken most of the week, doing a little each morning and evening, but I can finally see an end to it. It’s astonishing how much was crammed into my bedroom that didn’t even belong there in the first place.

I hoovered every inch of the room. Especially where the heavy furniture had covered dusty corners for years. It’s lighter and brighter now, and much easier to keep clean. Some paintwork needs extra attention.

I see the living-room was this week’s zone. I’ll have a quick tidy in there this evening. I like to hoover it every day or two as it’s a through-room from kitchen and utility to the rest of the house and gets messy fast.

THISnewbeginning · 31/08/2025 09:01

Morning all

I have just edited the living room to do list on the flylady app as it wasn't very relevant to me. Maybe this will inspire me today?

Ta da
☀️ LOL on
☀️ little dc dry washing away

HazelNotHungryLC · 31/08/2025 15:53

Scourgify it's sounds like it was a big job to do your bedroom, but worth it!

THIS I still need to do the same - update the app to make it more relevant to my house. Maybe September is the month for me, or am I just procrastinating again 🤔?

Sunday is renew your spirit day.
There are no missions on the weekend.

Today we're supposed to be going out for a drive, but we really haven't planned anything yet. ILs are having vehicle troubles too (they are coming with us). So if we do make it out today, it will be in nature, dogs will get to play in water (lake or river) and we'll have a picnic!

Flylady wants you to sign up for her emails today. I wouldn't. If her Facebook page is anything to go by, you will be overwhelmed by her emails!

@DillyDeclutter thank you for offering to do the September thread, I think I said a while ago that I don’t mind doing it but am quite happy to put it off for another month, things are very full on here with the ongoing elderly parents crisis, DD heading off to uni soon, start of school term for me (governor not job but it is extra work). I have been lurking even if not posting much. Maybe I’ll do October. Thank you also to @HazelNotHungryLC for this month.
