Summer holidays can be crazy! Are you looking to finally getting into a new routine with housework? Something simple to start that can be easy to add to over time? Flylady may be the answer for you!

This is a long running thread, but we are a friendly bunch and all are welcome to join in.

Do NOT sign up for the Flylady emails - it's an excessive amount sent every day.
There are Baby Steps for starting out, add one thing at a time to start good habits and routines.

There are 5 zones that we will rotate through, don't worry about finishing it all this month, it'll come around again next month! Flylady is NOT about perfectionism!

Daily missions: each day has a different mission for the zone we are in.

Daily focus:

  • Monday: Home Blessing (or as we call it, home bleugh)
  • Tuesday: plan & play
  • Wednesday: anti-procrastination
  • Thursday: errand day
  • Friday: clean car & purse out a week. It's also date night (with your significant other, or friends, or yourself!)
  • Saturday: family fun day
  • Sunday: renew your spirit

Common acronyms we use:

  • LOL: load of laundry (washing is certainly NOT funny!)
  • DW: dishwasher, we are not rotating wives by any means, although an extra pair of hands could come in handy sometimes 😆
  • LMS: lose/lost my shit
  • DNLMS: did not lose my shit

There are more, feel free to ask us to explain something. I'll try to update links every day, although if you can, it's worth downloading the app, you can even have it send you notifications (although I only have it for when the zones change). You can also modify the tick lists to suit your home & lifestyle.

Links are below 👇 if I happen to not add links in time, they do update at midnight for you. Although there are some issues with the website and app right now, so bear with me!

Monday is home bleugh day.

We are in zone 4 this week, the master bedroom, master bathroom (if you have one) and closet/wardrobe.

Monday's mission is to clean off the top of your dresser. Put things away where they belong, throw away rubbish and dust it once it's clear. Only spend 15 minutes on this, so if you need to, just break it down and take a break after 15 minutes. Either spend another 15 minutes on it and repeat until it's done, or call it good, as after 15 minutes it's probably going to be better than what it was before you started.

Thanks for the sink tips! I'll look at the products mentioned!

HazelNotHungryLC · 19/08/2025 05:41

Tuesday is plan & play day.

Tuesday's mission is to set your timer for 15 minutes and declutter the top shelf of your wardrobe. If you can't get to it, work on whatever is in your way for 15 minutes.

Baby Step 19: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-19/
Read the testimonials. At least the one in the link. It is very twee, but that's flylady for you!
Keep on doing your routines, they will eventually become 2nd nature.

Good morning!

Theres a lot to plan in my life right now. I need to book our dog in for vaccines, renew passports. Get DD new school shoes, sort out ds nursery paperwork, get name labels for both kids clothes. Etc. And have that feeling I've forgotten something.... always.

I'm going to work today, DH is taking kids to his parents, so I'll have some me time this evening I think I need.

LaMarschallin · 19/08/2025 07:49

No Flying today or the next couple of days as we're away for a couple of days on a city break - hurrah!
I must remember today's mission as the top shelf of my main wardrobe is absolutely stuffed full of books. They really need sorting through and - even if I can't bring myself to throw them away - at least I should bring ones from the back nearer to the front so I can get at them to read.

THISnewbeginning · 19/08/2025 09:30

Lots of similar things to plan here Alwayslearning I need school shoes for 4 DC, I have about half the uniform still to buy too. For name labelling I use stampers - much easier than iron / stick in labels. I need to order one for the smallest DC as he starts school in September.

I can't do any of the buying until I get paid but I have a few online shopping baskets on the go! Waiting for DD to let me know which bag she wants because my suggestions were unacceptable.

I also need to book THIScat in at the vets to get neutered because shes driving me up the fucking wall with her wailing

HazelNotHungryLC · 19/08/2025 18:04

Alwayslearning25 I hate the feeling I've forgotten something! Sometimes I haven't, but usually I have! Enjoy your me time. Do you have anything in particular you would like to do?

LaMarschallin enjoy your city break! It's nice to be able to have a change of scenery.

THIS I don't think there's is anything worse than a female cat in heat!

I'm currently at the hairdressers, getting my roots done. I do have ta das already!
☕️ took DS to school, first day back from summer break
☕️ had to go back to the school, we forgot the picture day form (it's today!) - the traffic when I went back was horrendous!
☕️ bed sheets in washer
☕️ picked MIL up from the garage while her car gets worked on
☕️ dropped MIL off at SILs house since her car wasn't done yet (she needs to take BIL to the next big town as he doesn't have his driving license yet)
☕️ hairdressers

I do still need to wash my mattress and pillow protectors, and spot clean my mattress (from my self tanner) as the mattress "protector" is awful and doesn't do it's job! I may just go buy a new one today instead!
I'm also going to dip some peanut butter truffles for DH, his birthday is this weekend!
I should be back later with more ta das..

OP posts:
Alwayslearning25 · 19/08/2025 18:52

Listen to my music and float about the house aimlessly... and some housework I guess. 😂

HazelNotHungryLC · 20/08/2025 06:11

Well I have decided to do what I've never done before, I've called in sick for tomorrow(!) - Wednesday!
I did not get as much done today as I wanted. Lots of running around after others and frankly I'm pissed off over it! I'm having a day off to do what the hell I want and not answering to anyone! I'll take DS to school & pick him up, and that's it!

I need to get done truffles finished for DH, I want to paint my nails while watching my show and apply self tanner after my workout on my spin bike.

Ta das:
🤬 left the house multiple times to run around other people (8 times!!)
🤬 cleaned toilet in both bathrooms
🤬 LOLs x4 including sheets and mattress protectors
🤬 pulled some weeds
🤬 got in the pool for less than an hour

I did get my hair done and had to go to the bank today, but that was it!

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 20/08/2025 06:19

Wednesday is anti-procrastination day.

Wednesday's mission is to sort out your makeup. Throw away old makeup and makeup that's not used. Especially eye makeup, you don't want any infections in your eyes!

Learn about laundry and how to add it into your daily routine. Laundry is actually this month's focus.

Morning all

Sorry you had a rubbish day yesterday Hazel Hope today is better

I'm not doing very well with flying. Why can't I ever do it 😫

CherryogDog · 20/08/2025 08:44

Bit late to the sink discussion, mine is ceramic. The drainer has an annoying little dip that doesn't drain/dry.
I usually go over it all with limescale remover, then washing up liquid.
I've also got some gel limescale remover that I put on the tap and leave to do its magic.
So my taps shine, even if my sink doesn't!
At my old job the cleaner used toilet cleaner on the metal sinks, worked a treat!
Years ago I had a green plastic/composite sink. I made the mistake of leaving greasey washing up water in it, left a tide mark that I was never able to remove. Had to buy a new sink!

THISnewbeginning · 20/08/2025 10:23

Thanks for the sink advice cherry Google says I need to put down my scrub daddy and use a soft cloth.

I really need to actually do shit today 😩

You have a large family and I get the impression you have been effectively a single parent for years, plus work, plus studying, it is not at all surprising that the house falls down the list a bit sometimes, be kind to yourself (and don't forget the naughty corner is always open Smile)

THISnewbeginning · 20/08/2025 13:31

Thanks for the kind words ed

I have actually just signed up for some more studying 📖

Ta da
👏 dw empty and reloaded
👏 LOL
👏 made bed
👏 wiped surfaces in kitchen
👏 started sorting BRC in my bedroom

Scourgify · 20/08/2025 16:19

Got the Teens back to school, bought new secateurs, cut some more of the weeds at the back of the garage, drank much coffee, had a snooze and went back for Teens to drop one off at bus station.

Feel much better now. Last school year was not happy, fortunately this year looks as though it will go more smoothly.

I’m staring at the understairs cupboard door. I need to take the plunge and sort it out. It never did become an office. So much gets done online now that I don’t really need a permanent space for a desk. Some shelves for files will be enough.

THISnewbeginning · 20/08/2025 16:59

Glad the school year is looking better scour

Adding to my Ta Da list
👏 landing hoovered
👏 my bedroom hoovered

Next up the stairs 😫

👏 Little 3dc washing all away

HazelNotHungryLC · 21/08/2025 03:54

THIS those are great ta das! ED is right, you're juggling a lot! Even if all you get done is shining the sink and getting dressed in the morning, that's a win! Work on those baby steps, even if that's all you do for a year (I don't do all of them either probably less than half of them).

Cherry well done on shiny taps, just shining them up can make a huge difference!

Scourgify that's good the school year is starting better than last year.

Today I was so lazy! I didn't get anything done other than my nails and watching my show. All day. Oops! I actually didn't have energy in the end, but I think that was more to do with just sitting down instead of moving around this morning after my coffee.
I'll be back at work in the morning, hopefully after a good night's sleep.

Thursday is errand day.

Thursday's mission is to clean off the bedside tables. Throw away those used tissues, take your water glasses to the kitchen, anything else random placed there that doesn't belong, put them away!

Baby Step 21: https://www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/31-beginner-babysteps/day-21/
Spend 5 minutes reading the "ask flylady" section of the website (the link does actually work on the baby steps page).
Continue with your routines.
