When do you hang clothes outside?

Now that the days are brighter, was just wondering if there was a cut off temperature you use to decide when the laundry gets put outside?

There’s usually 2 weeks in June when it’s warm and dry enough for my clothes to not smell damp after being outside 😂

purpleme12 · 25/02/2025 22:41

About April time

Passmetheprosecco86 · 25/02/2025 22:41

I'm a bit obsessed with getting washing out - if it's dry, mine goes out now. Even a wee while outside seems to help it dry a bit quicker indoors. Have had washing out for a good few weeks now (based in Scotland)

IdaClair · 25/02/2025 22:42

I put laundry out all year round. Did the bedsheets today.

pizzaHeart · 25/02/2025 22:43

If it’s not raining I put laundry outside.
If course -15 won’t be helpful for drying but I don’t remember ever having -15 during the day. I do take it off for nights over winter not only because of cold but because it might start raining.

Yep me too.

The only time I don’t is if it’s actually raining.

RIPVPROG · 25/02/2025 22:44

Even if it's cold, if it's dry and there's a bit of wind they dry fairly quickly and smell fresher. No cut off date here.

Sinkintotheswamp · 25/02/2025 22:44

All year round. If its breezy and sunny it gets it a bit dryer and drops the creases out.
A bright, dry sub zero winters day is still worth hanging stuff out for.

gingercat02 · 25/02/2025 22:44

Today, they weren't dry but not far off. I was so pleased.

Moveoverdarlin · 25/02/2025 22:47

Today and yesterday were great for drying clothes outside. Especially for bedding which dried really quickly yesterday.

My rule is if it’s dry on the patio it goes out. Even if I hang it out and it’s still a bit damp, I’ll finish it off in the tumbler.

Me too! It was about 90pc dry when I brought it in.

Hercisback1 · 25/02/2025 22:51

Another all year rounder here too.

Doesn't always fully dry on the cold windless days, but it's mostly dry and needs finishing inside.

Windy days you can get loads dry.

As a rule, if the pavement is dry or drying, then your washing will.

BrieHugger · 25/02/2025 22:56

Depends what it is. If the radiators are on I drape clothes on them, but bed sheets and towels all go outside if it’s not raining/damp. I give them 10 mins in the tumble if they’re not bone dry.

Same here!

MrsMoastyToasty · 25/02/2025 23:00

If the patio is dry the washing goes out.

livelovelough24 · 25/02/2025 23:11

Oh, I envy you guys so much. Where I live, we do not hang clothes outside but use dryers. I miss it so much. 😩

Crispynoodle · 25/02/2025 23:20

I attempt it at above 11 degrees....I managed it one Boxing Day!

Crispynoodle · 25/02/2025 23:21

Obviously never overnight! Because of the spider willies (shudder)

CointreauVersial · 25/02/2025 23:25

My rule is that I won't put washing out on the line unless I can guarantee that it will dry completely during that day. I honestly can't be arsed to take down damp clothes and rehang them indoors.

HelenCurlyBrown · 25/02/2025 23:29

Never. We tumble dry all year round. We’ve never once hung out washing.

Honeyroar · 25/02/2025 23:32

I’ll happily put washing out in winter if it’s windy and dry.

Jux · 25/02/2025 23:34

Only when you know for certain it's not going toget darked on.
Also, when it's not in danger from those spider willies.

DazedAndConfused321 · 25/02/2025 23:36

If it's dry and sunny, the washing is outside. I usually use the foldable airers in weather like this, as I can drag them back inside easily when it inevitably rains, and pop them back out again when it stops.

Sometimes i chuck it outside on a windy day, it helps air out things like bedding even if it doesn't dry much

TheDevilWearPrimarni · 25/02/2025 23:44

It was 11 degrees with a slight breeze here today. I had washing out for 6 hours and was fairly dry when I brought it in.

Ebeneser · 25/02/2025 23:46

During winter it's usually always raining or about to rain, so very rarely hang washing out then. Otherwise I'll hang it out as much as I can. My first lot of "outside" washing of the year was actually last week, got all the bedding done 😁. Otherwise I'll hang it up inside the spare room with the dehumidifier on.
