Washing Machine dilemas

ThatBrightBlueDreamer · 08/01/2025 23:01

Hi can anyone please help!!! I’m exhausted looking for a washing machine with a reasonable cycle for a 60 c wash around an hr or less would be ideal, most are well over two hrs long. Most cycles are far to long I’m aware why but would prefer a washer with shorter cycles for 30/40 & 60 which is what I always wash on.

Beko 58 minutes for a 60 degree wash , or 48 minutes if you select fast wash. Includes maximum spin 1200.

which Beko is this and do you know the model number, I like the wash times on this one you’ve mentioned I also currently have a Beko which I’ve had for well over 12yrs so more than happy to buy another one as long as wash cycles aren’t too long!!! Thanks

I have a Hotpoint.

Ecowash is the longest so I use a standard 60 or 40 degrees was (1h55 / 1h45 time respectively)

But it also has a 60 minute fast wash at 60 degrees (but i can adjust the temperature to what I want - as much as 90 and low as 30, still 60 minutes)

And also has a 30 minute speed wash at 30 degrees (I've never tried to adjust the temperature so can't tell you if that is possible)

Btw this is one of the most mundane and uncontroversial posts I have ever made on MN GrinGrinGrin

What imodel number is your Hotpoint machine and what size load does it hold thanks

Whatever you do, don't get a Samsung AI fancy machine, and - even more importantly - don't buy it from John Lewis.

(I paid extra to have JL fit it, and their install went wrong, making the machine fill up with dirty water. The man they sent along to fix it was really intimidating and aggressive, and complaining to JL about this man's behaviour led absolutely nowhere. I'd never ever have a JL person in my flat again, ever.)

@ThatBrightBlueDreamer
It's 8kg
And this is the model Model Number: WMXTF842KUK

It's a couple of years old so it has possibly been updated now?

Oldraver · 19/01/2025 15:13

My Miele is 1.59 (stupid I know) for 60d and can be reduced to 1.39

My old Hotpoint had a fast 60 wash that took an hour. Maybe new models are similar

bumblebee1000 · 19/01/2025 15:25

We replaced our Bosch with another one, it has the speed button so halves the wash time, old machine didnt have that faciility...all the newer bosch machines have the speed perfect button, friend has a miele where you can choose time also with a button.

I have just purchased the montpellier washer from curry's.
60 min wash at 60 degrees.
Can reduce the temperature to 50, 40 and 30.
Not tried those yet.
15 min quick wash.
8kg.
1400 spin.

My Samsung eco bubble has a 59 min cycle and a 1.5hr one. There might be a quicker one as well. It is an old model though so not sure about current model.

Nat6999 · 21/01/2025 22:32

Bosch have speed perfect buttons that reduce washes by around 50%. I leave mine pressed in permanently.

Thanks can’t believe how hard it is to decide on a washing machine. So many different ones most with functions I probably never use !!

roobyred · 21/01/2025 23:11

@ThatBrightBlueDreamer I know you don't want to wait 2 hours for a cycle to complete, but with Bosch machines (and I expect many others) you can set it on a wash delay. Eg set it 60 degree wash at 11pm, set it to complete in 9 hours and the machine will come on at 6am and be ready for you to hang out the washing at 8am so you aren't hanging about. I love this function.

NattyTurtle59 · 21/01/2025 23:21

All I can say is thank goodness for top loaders!! These washing times sound insane, and way beyond my patience levels.

BertieBotts · 21/01/2025 23:24

I have a newish LG which does a 60 degree cycle in about 1hr 20. Most cycles on it are about an hour. It has a Turbowash which takes 39 minutes and uses steam apparently but I am a bit sceptical the steam actually does anything so I don't use that one.

The problem is all washing machines are cold fill, it takes a while to heat that amount of water. Then you've got to actually have the agitation, soaking etc.

BertieBotts · 21/01/2025 23:27

I can't give the model number as I am in Germany and they change the model numbers for different countries.

When I replaced our old machine last year, which was one of the 4hr cycle ones, I did get the impression that manufacturers are moving away from the super long/slow cycles back towards shorter ones. They include a long cycle as an eco wash, which suits me - I use that one when duration isn't a problem, which it usually isn't. It's not like you need to sit and watch it.

amoreoamicizia · 22/01/2025 09:33

It's not just down to cold fill, I had an early 2000s machine that was cold fill and did full cycles in about an hour, all perfectly clean (unlike machines now). A large part of the reason is that washing machines now swill around laundry in small amounts of the same, dirty water for ages in order to reduce water consumption.

Meandhimtogether · 22/01/2025 10:03

@ThatBrightBlueDreamer we have only had it for 3 weeks. Washing comes out nearly dry.
I have only tried 3 settings as there are only the 2 of us.
We purchased because we only have a small space and this fitted perfectly. Curry's fitted it.
I'm away at the moment and while getting ready I put our towels in. They were washed and hung on the maiden by the time car was packed. And nearly dry.
Not to expensive either.

I have a Samsung from John Lewis, very happy with it so far and the installers were lovely. Sorry you had a bad experience.
