How often to launder bed-linen and towels?

I need your advice, fellow mothers. Like many of you, I find myself strangely responsible for a whole family's worth of washing each week, we have 2 girls of 1 and 3. DH diverts from the question of him doing his fair share by complaining that I make my life difficult by washing bed-linen and towels too much. My current regime is towels and bathmat washed once a week, and bed-linen just once a month . (Luckily little exciting happens in the marital bed). What do you think? Minging? Unnecessary? I need to know what is normal. What do you do?

Ditto with towel, more like 3 weeks with our bedding and longer with children if drool and snot free. Oh and we wear pjs in bed.

I'd probably wash bed linen a bit more often and towels a bit less often.

Have no idea what's normal though, that's what I'm on this page trying to find out!

(Oh, and avoiding doing the mounting housework)

Used to be once a week every week ...

But towels now sort of fortnightly/when I remember

Bed linen - weekly for us (willy drips the main reason), er ... much less often for dc's as they dont sweat or drip much

Izzywhizzy · 25/04/2008 15:07

Once a week for everything. DP has VERY smelly feet.

Meeely2 · 25/04/2008 15:10

once a week with everything - i use fake tan - tinted moisturiser stuff and it shows on sheets and towels.....

DanniPops · 25/04/2008 15:16

This is even more helpful than I thought, thank you all. Please ladies, give me more.
Willy drips eh? I hadn't thought of that. Thank god DH wears pjs in bed. Not a smelly man, I must concede.
Do you change children's bed linen as much as adults'? When my girls are not snotty they don't seem to dirty their bed-linen at all. I only wash it out of guilt or fear of being an unfit mother, not out of any belief that it's actually dirty.

once a week

MrsOnTheMove · 25/04/2008 16:51

bed linen once a week (including dc's), towels every other day

DanniPops · 25/04/2008 22:51

EVERY OTHER DAY??
Are you in fact a hotel chambermaid?
I'm impressed at your dedication.
Hmm, so what I secretly hoped would be a confirmation that my slovenly ways were sort of ok, has turned out to be a rout at the hands of the sisterhood. Is there really nobody slummier out there?

Towels and bedlinen changed a minimum of once a week here but more often twice....

collision · 25/04/2008 22:59

once a fortnight for sheets inc kids

same for towels

JennsterSlugSlayer · 25/04/2008 22:59

Danni I am sure I've seen threads saying that bedding fortnightly is too often (eco threads) and if you use the towel (shagging on the rag thread [honestly there was one]) and wearing pajamas, then less frequently is ok.

sushistar · 25/04/2008 23:02

wash towels and sheets about every week, sometimes 10 days.

WinkyWinkola · 25/04/2008 23:04

Week to ten days. But I love a fresh bed so that's probably why. And fresh towels seem to dry better. Never use a tumble dryer so garden / house seems to be constantly draped with laundry.. ....

WinkyWinkola · 25/04/2008 23:04

Fresh towels seem to dry your body better, I mean, after a shower!

Blueskythinker · 25/04/2008 23:46

3 weeks for sheets (we also have no action!). Once a week for towels, except when my DH uses my towel, (grooosss) and I have to get new one.

12345678910 · 26/04/2008 22:21

bed linen once a week

towels every other day, otherwise i think they get wiffy.

sometimes i would do the kids bedlinen twice a week only cus i love their wee beds to b so neat, and i am not a control freak! ha, the rest of the house is untidy as!

allgonebellyup · 26/04/2008 22:24

psml at willy drips

PrettyCandles · 26/04/2008 22:28

When the LOs are still small, and as long as they tend to sleep at one end of the bed, you can get away with washing their sheets even less often by simlpy switching the mattresses around head-to-foot.

keepcalmandcarryon · 26/04/2008 23:22

bedlinen once a week - but DC's might be left longer

towels more often, maybe two/three times a week but we have outdoorsy and muddy existence, everything gets washed a lot, or the mud would take control of our lives. It's won the floor battle already.

B1977 · 26/04/2008 23:27

when they don't feel nice any more ... I think this is a lower set of standards than others on this thread

expatinscotland · 26/04/2008 23:29

Bedlinens once a week.

60 degrees in bio detergent and dried on the line.

Towels after 3-4 uses again at 60 degrees. I dry them outdoors until they're just about done then finish them in the dryer for about 15 mins. so they go soft.

B1977 · 26/04/2008 23:33

I have to admit I have thought after sex at times, that it wasn't worth washing the sheets for! Another
