How often to launder bed-linen and towels?

I need your advice, fellow mothers. Like many of you, I find myself strangely responsible for a whole family's worth of washing each week, we have 2 girls of 1 and 3. DH diverts from the question of him doing his fair share by complaining that I make my life difficult by washing bed-linen and towels too much. My current regime is towels and bathmat washed once a week, and bed-linen just once a month . (Luckily little exciting happens in the marital bed). What do you think? Minging? Unnecessary? I need to know what is normal. What do you do?

I do the house cleaning once a week and alternate each week with refreshing towels and bedlinen so its once a fortnight all round for me....I'd love to do it more often as I oove to have clean sheets and towels but I'd be exhausted...a little dirt is good for the immune system anyway!...thats my excuse!!!

i think i wash my towels too often! if DH uses the towel and I follow him then it goes in the wash. or vice versa. usually take a clean one for DS (PFB??? LOL)

this has got me rethinking.

bedding: ideally once a week (DH seems to sweat in bed - not through action though - though seriously has me worried about diabetes but he won't get himself checked)

DS's bedding: immediately if it is wet (out of nappied at night for about a month now [relieved mum emoticon] but otherwise, every 3 weeks or so.

Bottom sheet and pillow cases weekly, duvet cover fortnightly (or weekly if I am not working); towels and flannels weekly. Bath mat occasionally.

bedding twice a week ( and every time they see any action! )
Ds's also twice a week.
towels after every use, except for the one to dry your hands in the bathroom and that goes in at the end of every day.

towels twice a week or so, sometimes i do them more often to bulk up the nappy wash.
bedding once a week inc the dcs. dd sweats loads to do it less often.
sometimes ours is twice a week depending on my breastmilk leakage and ds puke!

Week to 10 days for both.
We all have our own towels, wouldn't dream of sharing a bath towel with DH...
I always wash towels in a separate wash as I read that putting them in with other things coudl cause wash bobbling, though not sure if this is true?

Ooooh I have a different regime. Bedsheets and pillows once a week. Duvet cover once a fortnight (we have white sheets and neutral covers so everything matches). Figure that cover doesn't get laid on so less need to wash. DC's bed gets changed less often. Husband's towel once a week. MIne and DC's less often as we're not as smelly!

I get so angry reading these threads! It's such an appalling waste of water and energy to wash towels after every use, or even after every other wash. And at 60 degrees! It's only skin-cells, not nuclear waste. Am sure your DCs would prefer a planet to live on in the future, rather than overly washed towels.
