Two dishwashers? Is that just greedy?

Our kitchen sink is in a really annoying place. The room is open plan to the dining area and the sink is right on the divide!
hence I get annoyed if there are large pans etc waiting to be washed up as they are so visible.
im thinking of getting an additional sink put in the back of the kitchen away from the divide. Or, just thought, I could get a slimline dishwasher for pots and pans? Or is that just silly? We have a standard sized dishwasher already.

It’s not uncommon to have two, I would if I had the space!

Twoshoesnewshoes · 14/02/2024 17:42

Ah ok, I don’t know anyone with two. But I’m thinking it’s maybe cheaper and easier than putting another sink in 🤔

We have two and I love it!

I don't know anyone else who also has two so I don't think it's very common

MrFlippersPancake · 14/02/2024 17:48

I totally would if I had the space!

akkakk · 14/02/2024 17:49

We have two - brilliant

TheChosenTwo · 14/02/2024 17:51

Often wish I’d put 2 in when we didn’t kitchen extension, we had plenty of space to play with!
I don’t wash pots or pans so if something doesn’t fit it goes in the sink overnight until the dishwasher is emptied and reloaded the following morning. It’s not an eyesore as it’s literally at nighttime but would be so handy, we entertain a lot and have large families.
We’ve stayed in holiday houses before with 2 and it’s been fab.

Crackoninmykitchen · 14/02/2024 17:53

We have two - it works very well. Make sure you have some way of labelling which one is clean - we have a handmade sign for the clean one which hooks over the handle.
Then you have to train your family dh to take dishes out of the clean one and empty whatever's left when it's time to put the dirty one on (and move the label).

Bellyfullofbiscuits · 14/02/2024 17:54

Do it. All my life i have wanted two! #sadlifegoals😂

shoppingshamed · 14/02/2024 17:56

Greedy is a funny way to describe it, there's no shortage of dishwashers 😁

I do t have two but I know it's quite common nowadays, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks anyway, if you can afford it and have the space why wouldnt you?

CMOTDibbler · 14/02/2024 18:07

We have two dishwashers, and it is fabulous. There is nothing ever waiting to be washed, and even DH who was very sceptical when I put them in the new kitchen plan now sings the praises of two dishwashers

TodayForTomorrow · 14/02/2024 18:13

I can see the benefit if you have a big family and are filling it more than once per day. I empty ours in the morning, fill it as the day goes on and then turn it on before bed, so I never have anything sitting out.

My only concern would be ending up with two loads needing put away. Or do people just store their stuff in the dishwasher all the time without putting it in the cupboards?

MusicstillonMTV · 14/02/2024 18:16

@TodayForTomorrow we do sometimes end up with two that need emptying - which is annoying but not the end of the world

One of the things I really like about it is that sometimes we have loads of stuff for the top and not much for the bottom or vice versa and it allows more flexibility

user120405 · 14/02/2024 18:17

We have two. In fact we effectively have four because each one has two drawers

DRS1970 · 14/02/2024 18:18

It is a bit extreme to have two dishwashers. But I do understand your reasons, and while it would not be that much easier to fit a dishwasher than a sink, the second dishwasher option would be tidier.

Aparecium · 14/02/2024 18:19

I know someone who has a second full-size dishwasher in their utility room. They use it just for pots and pans and other big items. The pots also live in the utility room, which is actually nearer the stove than the general washing-up area is. Abbas because it is in the utility area they can run it while the dining area is in use without the noise disturbing anyone. Seems a really good idea to me, if you have the space.

Brokeandbroker · 14/02/2024 18:20

We have 2, I wouldn't go back to having 1 now!

TinkerTiger · 14/02/2024 18:21

I just put them in the sink? What am I missing?

I don't think you are missing anything. I do the same, then unload the clean dishes and put the pots etc in the dishwasher. Job done!

You may still need a second sink if If the second dishwasher is far from the main sink. Dishes need rinsing before you load them, and it would be a messy hassle to carry dripping pans from sunk to dishwasher.
(I would love to have a prep sink in the food prep zone and a BIG sink in the washing up zone!)

MrJollyLivesNextDoor · 14/02/2024 18:23

2 is sensible

NeverDropYourMooncup · 14/02/2024 18:31

Thinking about our pots and pans, I'm not sure that a slimline dishwasher would actually be able to hold more than a couple at a time and the arm would likely be almost completely blocked by one.

But a proper sink (Belfast type) would swallow tons of them and all the extra utensils below its edge easily enough.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 14/02/2024 18:55

Yes that’s true.
our single sink is quite small.
its on the end of the breakfast bar, where we tend to do a bit of work or just hang out, so having pots stacked up is annoying.

I'd have 2 in a heart beat if I had the space

Flyhigher · 14/02/2024 19:56

We have two. I'd have three!!

Autumn1990 · 14/02/2024 20:06

I was going to post this exact question. I have room for a slimline and full size. I hate having dirty pots anywhere in sight in the kitchen. Despite having a decent sized house there’s no utility inside and I can’t change that.
I have two washing machines and that’s a game changer. Is two dishwashers also a game changer?
