Hi all

I think our washing machine is on its way out but it is 9 years old now.

What ones would anyone suggest? We would need about an 8kg drum.

If you're short on time, here's a summary of the washing machines Mumsnetters are recommending on this thread:

Best reliable washing machine: Bosch WAN28282GB 8kg, £404

Best for value: Hoover H-WASH 500 9KG, £500

Best washer dryer: Candy CSOW4856TWMBB680 Freestanding Washer Dryer, £429

Best large capacity washing machine: Samsung AI Energy WW11BB504DAB 11kg Washing Machine, £629

I have a Bosch which is pretty good. Mid price.

I dream of owning a Miele. My old landlord bought an ex demo miele for us at our old flat - it was amazing

Also my mum had a miele wasshing machine for 22 years!

She now has a fancy LG one that weighs the load for optimal water usage which she likes. She doesn't have to worry about putting a full load in.

Truthfully, I spent days/hours researching the question you've asked as my then old washer broke after 17 years ...yes I know.

In the end I decided to go for the quickest delivery from Argos as I was overwhelmed with information on what's good or bad.

I even went against advice and got the Candy smart pro 9kg washer/dryer combo, much to my family's horror 🤭😂.

The dryer part is fine for towels I may need in a hurry, but I don't tumble dry anything else. The washing is great. So far I'm happy. It's economic, easy to use, was £500. Smart app works well on android too btw

In the end I came to the conclusion they are all basically similar, and it's really luck. Enjoy whatever you buy in the end

I go for Bosch.
At one point I had the nightmare of needing both a washing machine and a dishwasher and, in my panic, was persuaded by the salesman to get the John Lewis own-label ones. [They're made by leading manufacturers, etc etc...]
I was not impressed and now have Bosch versions of both.
*crosses fingers, offers up a little prayer to the appliance deity that nothing packs up over xmas

Raindancer411 · 21/12/2023 11:38

Thanks both... we only just got a new tumbler last week as the old one went!!

I like the idea of one that weight as with the little one, I can just put on what I need than wait.

Don't bother with Miele, the quality is shocking compared to how they used to be.

greenacrylicpaint · 21/12/2023 12:03

we just replaced our miele with a midrange bosch.
tbh washing wise there is not much between them.
we wanted an eco cycle that's not too long. officially it's 3:45 for a full load but it adjusts depending on weight and dirt so usually is just under 3 hours, which is fine for us.
plus very short programmes for emergencies.

Buzzer3555 · 21/12/2023 12:10

I've got a Samsung eco bubble. 11kg. Quick wash 15 minutes and 59 minutes for larger loads. It has a bubble soak feature for stain removal. I am happy with it

IheartNiles · 21/12/2023 12:13

Bosch and Siemens are good. My Siemens is 10 years old, on most days and wearing well.

JadeSeahorse · 21/12/2023 12:24

I always insisted on buying Bosch until I was seriously unimpressed with the last one.

My sil always buys Miele and she is of the same impression with recent models. ☹️

I took a massive chance for me and bought a Hoover H Wash 500 9kg a year ago and I can’t begin to tell you how fabulous it is.

My washing feels gorgeous constantly now and if you use the app it tells you which are the most eco friendly programmes, many of which are really short. There is a steam facility if you want that and it has a 1600 rpm spin speed plus it looks really sleek and expensive.
Price is terrific too!

As you can probably tell I am still madly in love with my machine. ❤️

I had my heart set on replacing our washing machine with a Miele as multiple family members raved about them..but then they downgraded their 10 year warranty to 2 years whilst raising the price of the machines. I always justified the cost by them standing by the build quality with the long warranty. My conclusion was that they can’t be as good as they used to be..2 years doesn’t come close to the 5 that most others offer

We bought a mid range LG earlier this year which I am happy with so far. 11kg capacity so can wash all our duvets. Economical on water, doesn’t take too long to wash, can use auto-dosing with any liquid. I haven’t connected it to my smart phone
