Cleaning the shower while in it and naked

A few ??? As I intend to do this tonight. Already on second lot of clothes thanks to the weather and didn't fancy another change.

Do you clean it before or after you have showered yourself?

How do you use spray cleaners with the door shut without gassing yourself?

I've wondered this too

gingerninja · 10/03/2008 14:30

I clean before. To not gas yourself either have doors open until the last minute or use something non toxic like bicarb of soda or a lemon

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/03/2008 14:32

Go in shower in the normal fashion, armed with scouring pad and mr muscle. Shower self and wash hair etc, then whilst conditioner is on clean the shower. When shower cleaned rinse shower, then rinse self.

I really don't know how else you would clean a shower properly!

DP thinks I am a loon. But there is a healthy number of mumsnetters who clean the shower like thi, so am in good company!

PotPourri · 10/03/2008 14:32

Use diluted vinegar spray and a squeegy thing (that wipes the water off). Actually, we use one of those after every shower (due to no extractor fan) and since we started, have only had to 'wash' the outside regularly and the inside maybe once a month.

Other alternative is to just get in there with yoru shoes on, scrub it all, step out, scrub the base, then rinse it all off - rinse door with wet cloth.

REally do recommend the squeegy things, the type window cleaners use

Anna8888 · 10/03/2008 14:32

The only way I can use spray cleaners is by opening all doors and windows.

TurkeyLurkey · 10/03/2008 14:33

I strip off, get on my hands and knees and scrub the shower tray (yes..its an attractive sight!).

Then get in, turn shower on and wash myself, then do insides of doors whilst still stood under shower to keep warm, finishing off the glass with a thing that window cleaners use (its like a rubber ruler that you drag down the glass..leave its streak free and sparkling clean!!).

Never had problems gassing myself but only use Wilkos cheapo bath and shower cleaner which is quite pleasant to use.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/03/2008 14:33

Why would you gas yourself? I don't clean my shower with tear gas. A couple of sprays of mr muscle don't suffocate me

Always have the bathroon window open when shower is on, in any case.

LyraSilvertongue · 10/03/2008 14:33

Now that's what i call multitasking. It would never occur to me to clean the shower while in it.

toratora · 10/03/2008 14:34

I do exactly as GetOrfMoiLand does - I clean the shower while I am conditioning my hair! I usually open the shower door a bit so I don't gas myself though!

Threadworm · 10/03/2008 14:34

Will anyone confess to getting inside the shower with their dog as the best way to give him a shower?

TurkeyLurkey · 10/03/2008 14:35

Threadworm!

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/03/2008 14:36

I have asthma and find I can't bear any kind of sprays but want to use up what I have before going on to more friendly cleaning stuff.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 10/03/2008 14:36

That is a brilliant idea, Threadworm!!

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/03/2008 14:38

Just make sure you use spray cleaners, don't take in bottles of flash liquid, because you may confuse it with the bottle of sanex, end up pouring shedloads of flash on a sponge and washing yourself with it (I was distracted that day).

I was squeaky clean, though

BrownSuga · 10/03/2008 14:39

I wouldn't do it. My stepmum broke her leg in 2 places doing this. Slipped in shower, got caught in the door. Thought it would save her some time.

GetOrfMoiLand · 10/03/2008 14:42

brownsuga - yes, but you could trip and fall at any time in the shower, not just when you are cleaning it

gingerninja · 10/03/2008 14:51

Threadworm, I've been in with a cat that was covered in muck. . That is something I would advise against anyone repeating with the benefit of hindsight and experience. Life isn't worth taking that risk

Threadworm · 10/03/2008 14:52

Hmm. Cats. Sharp claws and good vertical mobility.
Dogs easier. Mine just stands there and weeps.

gingerninja · 10/03/2008 14:54

yes i confess I was a bloody idiot never seen a cat cling to a glass door before

rosealbie · 10/03/2008 14:55

I'm really cautious about any of these spray cleaners, yuk I nearly keel over from holding my breath when I clean the bathroom.

I've just got a bathroom spray cleaner from the new M&S 'Naturally Derived' range.

It smells lovely and seems really effective too.

BroccoliSpears · 10/03/2008 14:57

Usually I clean the shower while in it, but simple physics prevent me from doing so whilst 8 months pregnant. I can't even see the shower tray, let alone reach it or scrub it.

HuwEdwards · 10/03/2008 14:57

gingerninja - your posts have made me lol!

To those taking animals in the shower - don't you find being in an enclosed place, presumably naked with your pet, a little erm off-putting?

claireybee · 10/03/2008 15:01

Surely that is the only way to clean the shower?!

I clean it before myself, that way I don't get out feeling covered in cleaning products(and it's nice to shower in a freshly cleaned shower). My friend says I am wrong however, and you should clean it after yourself so that it is still clean when you get out. I rinse and either squeegee it or use a microfibre cloth once I have finished showering to leave it all sparkling

dizzydixies · 10/03/2008 15:04

claireybee how dirty is your friend

I spray it and leave it for a few minutes whilst getting ready for shower then when I get in all I have to do is wipe it all down

am all about the least work me!!
