I want to get my house clean, decluttered and organised before school starts in September.
I started on the shelves in the living room today which are meant to be for some books and ornaments but have become filled with random paper and objects.
This seems to be the case everywhere I look!
Time to tackle it.

I’ll join you! My house is usually fairly clean and clutter-free but it seems to have majorly slipped recently - there are little piles of crap everywhere I look!
I definitely need to get things back in shape (house and routines!) before school starts back.

ScuttleMcButtle · 26/07/2023 22:32

I’ll join. Trying to find a buyer for house and currently sitting on the floor of a room we have just painted reading mumsnet instead of putting curtains up. Whole house needs a declutter. We have hired a storage room :-)

Me! I'm pregnant and overwhelmed with all the shit around the house. I need to do a full declutter and decorate some rooms. Spent the last few days off doing nothing. Can't pick a paint colour for our bedroom and can't even get started on the sorting of stuff anywhere else.

Don’t pink hot pink. Took several coats to fix. Although now I’ve seen the Barbie movie maybe I could have left it.

I'll join! We're renting, and my biggest fear is having to pack quickly, or worse, someone else clearing up our clutter. I need inspiration to get rid

Good luck with the move. I did nothing in the end in hope of a power tidy today

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 27/07/2023 20:32

I hope the move went well, @rougechaotic!

I rearranged our bedroom furniture this afternoon, which led to moving a chest of drawers to DS2’s room and removing a Kallax-style unit. Moving a chest of drawers encouraged DH to clear out his bottom
drawer and he found 4 jumpers and 2 pairs of trousers for the charity pile.

I also moved some things around in the playroom and freed up some space, meaning the much-hated (by me) dressing up chest can also go.

It has been a productive afternoon!

No even read yet but yes! Yes please!

ScuttleMcButtle · 27/07/2023 21:15

I’ve done the daughters room finally! Storage boxes tomorrow am

PositivePenny · 27/07/2023 22:00

Me please!

I have 5 weeks and a small, 3 bedroom house (and small gardens) to de-clutter and clean.

I feel like I’m drowning in ‘stuff’ and my house isn’t just untidy now, it getting tired looking and dirty. It feels like a mammoth task so I’ve just put it off (for at least 3 years!)

I have no distractions or real plans for the next few weeks so now is the ideal time. I just need some tips and motivation to get me started 😂

PositivePenny · 27/07/2023 22:02

I also seem to work really slowly. I don’t think I’ll get whole rooms done each day so I may need slightly smaller tasks each day - that’s where it goes wrong usually I think, I try to do it all at once and burn out.

PositivePenny · 28/07/2023 05:12

I decided to start with the bathroom because that’s the easiest room. That has been completely decluttered AND cleaned!

So, if that’s all that gets done today it’s ok!

Bananaramad · 28/07/2023 05:23

Me too please, I've cleared out drawers in dining table and drawer in coffee table and tv stand in living room. Next stop hall table and basket. Will do this after work today.

ScuttleMcButtle · 28/07/2023 07:16

Anyone run out of energy in the evenings though?

WarriorN · 28/07/2023 07:23

I am starting but no idea if I can commit to a thread!

I do have some advice though, pinched from mates who bought a local Wonder Woman declutterer in.

Start in a corner and work clockwise.

Sort your exist strategy - i.e. if you know you'll be heading to the tip / charity shop, make sure that's what's going to happen, clear the car, get the bags ready etc. make the time to wack it on vinted.

If in doubt, white and then use furnishings.

Nordic monochrome with plants is v calming.

WarriorN · 28/07/2023 07:24

Or you can go Moroccan ish with brights.

TheSummerITurnedChubby · 28/07/2023 08:54

I would like to join in! I like to be motivated by other people’s ideas and progress Flowers

I’m cheating today as my cleaner is coming - she only has time to surface clean so loads more needed (big old house so dusty and hard to clean; people and animals coming and going all the time). I’ve made a start on the decluttering this week; like a PP I like to start small with a couple of drawers or a cupboard, but also do a walk through and pick up random things. I’m doing it around work so it will take time

Will post more later…

MariaVT65 · 28/07/2023 09:19

Me!

We have an insane amount of stuff in our house. I’m pregnant with a girl so i’m having a great time sorting through the many boxes of boy clothes we have so i can give them to friends and charities. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

WarriorN · 28/07/2023 12:19

The hardest thing is that there's areas we've left for a decade - I had fully intended to begin to tackle after my second child but the pandemic hit and I could t face it juggling life and kids and work.

Then we seem to have either been poorly or preferring to go out and about all the time, to make the most of being able to!

I also think when the kids were younger I kept more stuff "in case" - now I don't care!

StationeryOffice · 28/07/2023 17:53

Yes please!

I'm a teacher (with older teen DC and no holiday booked - so plenty of time!) and I really want to go through the whole house and give it a deep clean, a declutter (it is tidy and organised but there really is too much stuff we don't use and it feels 'heavy' despite this and I get really stuck on where to draw the line) and get a few minor DIY jobs completed.

I've made a very modest start but I could really do with the chat to crank up the effort. I definitely won't get through the whole house at this pace!

MallardsMoorhensAndLethe · 29/07/2023 01:21

Count me in! Far too much stuff here. Thanks for the tip warrior I'm going to try that.

ScuttleMcButtle · 29/07/2023 07:35

its the weekend. Start early!
