The follow on from www.mumsnet.com/talk/housekeeping/4709904-im-doing-the-31-day-declutter-challenge?page=21&reply=123534967 as we go into February and maybe beyond. We are no longer doing the numbers challenge but chucking, recycling, regifting and reselling the clutter in our life.

*The title is a nod to Dana K White, someone who has helped me declutter.

Well done @BerfyTigot, that's brilliant.

It's been a bit of a busy day here with other things, so I'll hopefully do some more decluttering over the weekend.

BerfyTigot · 02/09/2023 07:14

Thanks everyone.

Today's task is to get rid of a load of packaging materials which I've been hanging onto so that I can eBay stuff, but somehow is never the right size 🙄

And also print labels for the other 2 returns and take them to the post office.

LuckOfTheDrawer · 03/09/2023 09:26

My accountability list for today:

  • Package and move Things That Can't Be Thrown Away into the loft.
  • Tidy and clean office.
  • Organise clothes, and pass some to charity.

What's everyone else up to?

BerfyTigot · 03/09/2023 18:13

@LuckOfTheDrawer
How much did you manage to do from today's list?

Wasn't feeling too good this weekend so not done much decluttering, but I have kept on top of the day to day stuff, which is a win for me.👍👍

LuckOfTheDrawer · 03/09/2023 19:20

Thanks @BerfyTigot!

I managed to complete everything on my list, and it turned out that the things that I thought couldn't be thrown away could be after all (well, I recycled them). I think that saved about 6 boxes in the attic, so I'm pleased with that.

I'm feeling much less attached to stuff now, so that's helping too. I'm struggling a bit with DS's artwork - I'm considering scanning some in, rather than keeping it all.

BerfyTigot · 05/09/2023 15:45

@LuckOfTheDrawer don't get me started on what's in the loft 😀

It's mainly my husband's junk but it means that nothing else can go up there.

Been doing quite well, have 2 more rooms to sort, bits to take to charity etc. And a junk cupboard to sort. God knows what's in there.

I'm running out of steam now. Going to motivate myself with an episode of Stacey Solomon's sort your life out 😁

Hope everyone is doing ok.

There is a new series starting this week @BerfyTigot .

LuckOfTheDrawer · 05/09/2023 21:42

I feel a bit like decluttering is going slowly for me, but at the same time, I'm managing to declutter things that I wouldn't have before. So, maybe that's OK.

I think I need to some decluttering inspo, has anyone watched the Swedish death cleaning TV shows? And is Sort your life out good?

BerfyTigot · 06/09/2023 04:21

@LuckOfTheDrawer I wouldn't exactly describe SYLO as "good" but I find it motivating.

It's usually a family swamped by their possessions to the point of not having friends over.

Stacey and team take everything in the house to a warehouse and help them see that they don't need 15 saucepans.

Old episodes on iPlayer. My only problem is that I end thinking "oh mine's not that bad" 😁

Dana is back after the summer so I listened to her new podcast episode and she hypnotised me into bagging up old uniform for the charity shop and tidying my utility room.

Misstabithabean · 06/09/2023 20:58

I started on a post-school holiday clean today and blitzed the kitchen. I really want to get on top of the housework and think decluttering will help. @LuckOfTheDrawer I've got piles of drawings from DS that I don't know what to do with either! I bought an art folder to store them in and I photograph everything but know I can't really keep it all. I feel guilty throwing any out though and the piles keep growing!!
