How many glasses do you have?

Orcubed · 28/01/2023 08:33

Watched the Nick Knowles programme. They had 544 glasses. We have a LOT of glasses (but not that many!)
Everyday glasses (pint and small)
wine (red and white, big and small) champagne, beer, gin, cocktail, brandy, sherry glasses…
I do really like having the ‘right’ glass 😳

What is the Nick Knowles programme please

Channel 5 - Nick Knowles, New Year new clear out. It’s the same premise as BBC’s Sort your life out. Both series are copying the format of an American program.

HeavenIsAHalfpipe · 28/01/2023 16:11

About 30. A few pint glasses, a few half pint glasses, about 8 tumblers, (whiskey tumbler size,) about a dozen wine glasses, and a few sherry glasses.

LindorDoubleChoc · 28/01/2023 16:19

Probably about 25 to 30. It annoys me they won't all fit into one cupboard.

bussteward · 28/01/2023 16:22

Two. We did have four, but DP smashed one and has commandeered the other in his mancave and somehow ruined it so it never emerges and I don’t want to know.

Used to have a lot more but DP is teetotal so I got rid of all my wine glasses, champagne coupes, little wine tumblers, everything. And all my vintage glassware got smashed in the butler sink, also by DP. (He’s a lovely, clumsy man.)

Turns out one glass each is all you need, really. When we have people round, they get their water in plastic picnic tumblers.

Phos · 28/01/2023 16:26

6 crystal cut hi-balls
4 regular hi-balls
4 nice gin glasses
2 novelty personalised gin glasses
6 wine tumblers
8 stemmed wine glasses
10 low ball tumblers
2 crystal cut low tumblers
2 port glasses
8 shot glasses
10 champagne flutes
2 martini glasses

And a motley selection of plastic beakers belonging to DD (although she tends to use the low ball tumblers a lot now she is nearly 6)

Augend23 · 28/01/2023 16:28

Gosh an absurd number...

5 crystal water/wine
5 tall crystal tumblers
5 or 6 Ikea tumblers
1 plastic pint glass
3 tesco value glasses (mainly used to put individual puddings in)
3 small whisky type glasses
6 crystal wine glasses
6 champagne flutes
4 big wine glasses
2 champagne saucers
A mystery number of cheap champagne flutes to get out for occasions when I don't trust people with the decent ones...

So somewhere around about 50 + however many are in the shed.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 28/01/2023 17:02

6 Murano wine glasses and 6 matching liquer glasses and 6 etched hi balls for best (18)
everyday 3 wine glasses, 3 cocktail, 4 short tumblers, 4 tall tumblers 3 odd tumblers (17)

Caspianberg · 28/01/2023 17:06

12 low tumblers, 12 tall glasses.

8 wine glasses, 8 champagne

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/01/2023 17:17

I’d say we have about 20, various tumblers etc. about 4 everyday use wine glasses and 4 red wine glasses. 2 pint glasses (I have to drink water from a pint glass) and a box of random wine glasses that only come out at Christmas.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/01/2023 22:33

Casilero · 28/01/2023 15:02

I think you DO need them. What else would you use for summer cocktails?

Might've just ordered them ................. I can blame you , yeah Wink

paintitallover · 28/01/2023 22:43

Around 70, tumblers, half pint, pint, wine x12, small wine, sherry and shot. Some Christmas etched ones. A few odds and ends.

WetBandits · 28/01/2023 22:51

About 15. I don’t think any of them match 😂

megletthesecond · 28/01/2023 22:56

Probably about 6.

And another 8 plastic tumblers.

One plastic wine glass.

RewildingAmbridge · 28/01/2023 23:09

12 250ml tumblers/water glasses
6 500ml tumblers with a pretty pattern
6 IKEA pokal chunky tumbler things
8 red wine glasses
8 champagne flutes
4 crystal champagne flutes DHs grandparents bought us when we got engaged that we rarely use in case they get broken
4 Martini glasses
3/4 hipster IPA glasses (DH)
4 glass coffee mugs that match the pretty tumblers
4 mini glass espresso mugs that more commonly get used for eggs prior to poaching
Various plastic cups for DS
I am currently very tempted by some pretty stemless wine glasses even though I never drink red wine anymore and they are not dishwasher safe (see also pretty tumblers and coffee mugs) so I will avoid using them

RewildingAmbridge · 28/01/2023 23:10

Oh God why do I have 60 glasses!

Orcubed · 29/01/2023 13:59

I don’t think any of you have as many as I do yet 😂I think we have about 150.

There’s a bar area in my dining room so most of them are in there rather than taking up kitchen cupboard space. This does enable me to have more than we probably need.
Although they do all seem to get used, especially when we have guests. Also they’re something I’m reluctant to declutter because they do get smashed, I think we lost 3 over Christmas and another couple at dps birthday plus the random smashings from the kids dropping them. I figure they’ll whittle themselves down eventually!

@Sucessinthenewyear thank you. I found the programme.
I watched
I think these programmes are really interesting.
How great to have the opportunity to do it all in fell swoop like that. The rest of us have a harder time to find the impetus but also the space to clear it out in that way I think

Orcubed · 30/01/2023 11:21

Yes @coffeeginandkindness I think getting everything out into one visual area really brings it home just how much there is.
While our home is visually mostly clutter free we do have a lot of stuff hidden away and we definitely like to have lots of crockery etc so we can host the extended family without running out. I am always really impressed when they manage to get rid of half of their stuff because I don’t think I could do that!
I’m not particularly sentimental and don’t hang on to old toys etc or things I was given if I have no use for them but useful items are definitely where I fall down!
I could serve all drinks in tumblers and get rid of loads of glasses but that takes some of the pleasure out of the drink for me.

RoseMartha · 30/01/2023 16:04

About ten to twelve mismatched ones, couple of half pint glasses, about three hi ball, three squat tumblers, a couple small ones and one wine glass.

Theoldwoman · 31/01/2023 06:01

10 glasses of various sizes ( in two’s)
4 wine glasses

stayathomer · 31/01/2023 06:05

About twenty little ones from ikea, four tall ones that irritate me as the kids put too much in them, and one wine glass(broke 3 at Christmas). Need to get a pint glass!

Theoldwoman · 31/01/2023 06:12

I can’t get over how many some of you have? Seriously, what home needs 30 plus glasses. Don’t you wash the dishes daily?

Pandor · 31/01/2023 06:35

Red wine, white wine, everyday tumblers, rocks, double rocks, highballs, martini, Nick and Nora, Champagne flutes, Champagne saucers, brandy snifters, shot…that’s what I can think of off the top of my head
