Anyone else rocking the housework?

My housekeeping was always somewhat chaotic, and since these were launched, my house is far more functional and a podcast away from actually looking rather orderly, even at short notice.

I tend to pick what I need each day rather than following the tradtitonal TOMM, but do refer back to that to help get some jobs done if they're in danger of being neglected.

I think my most used tracks are the "Calm Laundry Put Away" the "Bitesize Bathroom Blitz" and the "Quick Kitchen Turnaround"

Hello 👋 I've been behind on the messy bootcamps with being back at work / school etc but got my hall and kitchen done so far.

Sometimes I need motivation to start but once I get going I'm pleased ife started.

Saving the living room one until Monday. Bedrooms today.

FourTeaFallOut · 07/01/2024 10:19

Urgh, bedrooms <shudder> I did our bedroom in one hour and the others in a separate hour clean. They always collect so much stuff that the declutter is brutal. I still need to do the kitchen. I cleaned a few drawers yesterday in readiness for doing it on Monday, does that count? 😄

PumpkinSpicedTea · 07/01/2024 10:57

Yes every little bit does count!

I know what you mean about bedrooms. I aim to make mine a calm adult area but it never works out that way.

BogRollBOGOF · 07/01/2024 23:18

I'm planning on a big multi-room clean, (maybe the 75 min reset) and some bedroom focusing this week.

I did really well through December, but that was more downstairs so the bedrooms are not their best although mine is improved from the session last week.

I've just done my first one of these (bathroom) proper game changer!! I needed the motivation and it's certainly done that for me.. on to the next one.

FourTeaFallOut · 08/01/2024 10:28

Two bootcamp rooms in one day?? 😲Impressive!

FourTeaFallOut · 08/01/2024 10:30

I have the house back to scratch after a busy weekend. I just can not summon the motivation to do the kitchen bootcamp I keep saying I will. By way of compromise, I have cleaned out another drawer. Think January is biting quite hard this year, where is the sun?

ProjectsGalore · 08/01/2024 12:59

I did the before work living room level 2 guided clean this morning. Feeling like I'm getting on top of things after Christmas and determined to keep decluttering along with daily tasks!

rockingbird · 08/01/2024 13:58

I've done the bathroom and the living room. Spotless! Going to do my bedroom after the school run, thoroughly enjoying the mental focus with my headphones on. Kitchen and son's room tomorrow.. then I'm going to tackle the cupboard in the hallway (everything goes in there) 🫣

FourTeaFallOut · 08/01/2024 17:20

How's your marathon going @rockingbird? Are you getting there?

BogRollBOGOF · 08/01/2024 23:18

I've been on laundry, kitchen and decluttering DC's room today. The cold is demotivating so shorter bursts at dealing with the roadblocks has worked well. Then I can bring it together later in the week.

It's felt productive anyway.

Dropthedonkey · 09/01/2024 08:18

I've time at home today and I don't know where to start! There's laundry everywhere, more to be done, some Christmas things still to sort out and put back in the attic.. groceries. Is there a RTH to tell you where to start?!

ProjectsGalore · 09/01/2024 08:30

@Dropthedonkey I did the guided seasonal sessions - there is one called put the decorations away. Otherwise I would do some of the bootcamps or house resets until you are on top of it.

NewYearTimeToChange · 09/01/2024 10:12

If I have the TOM app and pay the monthly charge for TOM Rocks can I access the cleans on Rock the Housework too or is that a separate thing?

FourTeaFallOut · 09/01/2024 11:23

No. Rockthehousework was on the patron app, which was the only way to access the guided cleans until recently. Back in autumn they started the cleans on the ToMM app and most people migrated over.

There are a few things you could do @Dropthedonkey . You could you it in tandem with the ToMM schedule, which is obvious on the app and then you'd slowly get there with little and often. If you have more time, you could do the bootcamp cleans that would be done daily across the week. If you want something in-between, I'd go for one of the longer multi- room cleans and move on to the TOMM schedule after that.

Dropthedonkey · 09/01/2024 11:25

Thank you all for the advice! I've been doing a random productively clean today just so I have someone talking in my ear and a count down. Doing ok so far; but thought it was time to stop for lunch and I see it's not even half eleven!

FourTeaFallOut · 09/01/2024 11:40

The productivity ones are really useful when you have a lot of stuff to do that doesn't fall neatly under the other cleans, I use them when I am doing paperwork.

If you are tackling a particular room or task then it might be worth getting something more specific because I find you can get more out of them.

There are some that you can choose by mood too. I like the calm multi-room clean for upstairs because it gives me a bit more time to tidy up the messy kids rooms but I like the upbeat after dinner cleans to get it out of the way quickly. It gets a bit addictive 😁

BogRollBOGOF · 15/01/2024 17:30

I like the new motivation drop today. Really good for a quick whip round and realising that it wasn't so bad after all.

BogRollBOGOF · 18/01/2024 22:36

And that's been about it on the motivation front this week. By the time the house has warmed up to something comfortable, I'm too far gone to psych up again.

The kichen needs a declutter. It's been cleaned umpteen times but there's still equipment or random stuff like boxes of cheese crackers out being homeless so it's not felt done.

Hiya thankyou for this thread, I've been a follower of TOMM for a few years but always struggled to give it 100% due to family life and ongoing health problems... but the guided cleans have helped me immensely with picking it back up again after bad days.... I'm been reading the messages on here and have found comfort in seeing others in the same boat as me so thanks for the Posts 👍
I do want to try and get back on TOMM Schedule so I downloaded the app but the week and day it gave me didn't tally up with the TOMM week that it actually was and now I'm also unable to open the app on my phone so have no idea what tomm week it currently is... does anyone here know? I always prefer to follow on her schedule rather than my own as it's better for my motivation. Thankyou xx

FourTeaFallOut · 22/01/2024 12:12

Hi Vintage. I think it's week 5, meaning the Friday Focus is bedrooms.

I'm starting week 1, day 1 because I'm getting back into the rhythm of doing TOMM properly again after going completely rogue with the podcasts.

BogRollBOGOF · 23/01/2024 21:36

My motivation's not been great this month. I think it's because most days have either been so dull and not felt like daylight until 11:30 or too fricking cold to do anything other than hunkering under a blanket. The cold also tends to cramp my neck and shoulders which also does not encourage housework.

I have done some random decluttering in the kitchen... the BBE prize goes to some dried fruit dated 2014 🙈
It feels like it's taken no time for the day to day clutter to get it's grip again though. That's weather affected again. Uninviting weather tends to trigger attempts at "bin buckaroo" over venturing out to the wheelie bin.

A new week and I've finally done the 75 min house reset... well, not quite true, I've used it to deal with downstairs and parted at the upstairs section. It's meaty enough to cover the whole downstairs and I've just spent a bit extra cracking the kitchen and a Bitesize Bathroom Blitz to tick that one off. Not feeling desperate to attack upstairs at this moment.

Today's 30 min laundry drop looks great. I get good use out of the 15 min sessions, but sometimes it's easy to lose focus if putting multiple short sessions together and drift off.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/02/2024 20:04

Keeping afloat with the Scurryfunge for a good general clean. I've got a poorly child in the house which makes it harder to focus, but he's generally making less mess than usual.

The 30 min laundry was good for shifting some clean clothes congestion.

Hi, sorry I've been AWOL. I got into a bit of an accident three weeks back and was reduced to shuffling. The housework went on the back burner and it's all looking a bit worse for wear. I'm practically back up and running so intend to start eating into the backlog today.
