I’m doing the 31 Day declutter challenge

Sallygoroundtheroses · 01/01/2023 12:13

I’ve done it before but not for a while. Despite a huge effort to declutter last year, the house is looking a bit chaotic again. So 1 item on day 1, 2 on day 2 etc.

I’m off to find an item…

Now I am wondering what to do for my day 16!

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 25/01/2023 14:35

deleted 5798 cookies from my PC and about 198 unwanted downloads

HellonHeels · 25/01/2023 15:42

3 lipsticks (don't like texture/colour)
perfume sample
decluttered a troublesome work project by finishing it

I've now got some longer-term "using stuff up instead of leaving it sitting around" projects: using candles, using skin care and reading books so I can donate them. Should yield results by the weekend. Also have an OU assignment to do, I definitely count these as decluttering because they take up so much head space.

WombatBombat · 25/01/2023 16:31

15 things uploaded to Vinted/FB at lunch and 6 sold.

Still hugely putting off toys and clothes which is what will always make the biggest difference.

fourmonthstogo · 25/01/2023 20:59

I like the decluttering idea of getting things done that take up head space. I've got a few things that would count for that!
I recycled 20 new home cards from when we moved over 2 years ago, which was quick at least! I'll have a mooch later and find another 5.

tiersta · 25/01/2023 22:18

Late to the party but may give this a go...

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/01/2023 07:28

I've not managed much for a few days but had done a lot to get ahead.

If I can declutter the spare room and last kitchen cupboard by half term I'll be more than happy with what I've achieved.

I'll hit the garage when the weather is warmer. Decluttering is not just for January.

The house is so much tidier.

Timepasse · 26/01/2023 12:03

I can’t manage the numbers any more - had a massive clear out of photos and paperwork last year otherwise could have counted all that.
But went to the tip yesterday and today am breaking down an old chest of drawers which has been taking up useful space in the shed. It’s half mdf so will need another tip trip soonish but the rest of it I am chopping into kindling wood.

StarryGazeyEyes · 26/01/2023 13:39

I haven't been able to keep a tally either but am still going. I've got 4 bags of clothes to sell, 2 big boxes of stuff other stuff to sell, 2 big boxes for the charity shop, 2 bin bags of fabric scrap, 2 bin bags of junk. I'm getting down to those areas that are DH's domain - he is not a natural declutterer, so some negotiations may be forthcoming! DC have been awesome though and fully on board.

Orcubed · 26/01/2023 13:44

@Timepasse I'm struggling a bit now too, decluttering has been ongoing here for the past year at least so don’t have loads of excess. It’s more stuff the kids have outgrown or that’s worn out etc here. Plus a few bits that were grey areas in previous decluttering.

SwordBilledHummingbird · 26/01/2023 13:47

I'm on 388/496. The living room and bedroom are now looking pretty good :) (let's ignore the state of the rest of the house 😂).

Orcubed · 26/01/2023 14:26

Well that’s embarrassing, I say we don’t have loads of excess then manage to throw away over 120 pieces of random scribbles artwork

mum2jakie · 26/01/2023 14:34

Small out today - 11 items of kids' clothing into the clothes bank as I nipped in for some milk. Am going have more of a concerted effort in the kids' room tomorrow.

Sallygoroundtheroses · 26/01/2023 19:33

Not feeling the best today so more photos off the phone. I plan to do the children’s toys this weekend!

LolaSmiles · 26/01/2023 20:23

The bag of clothes I've been filling has gone to the clothing bank today and I've got another of bric a brac for the charity shop.

At the moment I've got things in an awkward holding pattern ready to leave the house but need to get round to taking them places

mum2jakie · 26/01/2023 20:26

Have done a sweep of OH sock drawer while he was watching something dull on TV. 7 odd socks binned and several pairs redistributed into adult son's drawers. Have three new items to start off a new charity shop bag.

Theimpossiblegirl · 26/01/2023 20:55

I'm back in the game!
Just spent a couple of hours in the spare room/dumping ground.
Over 100 books and games boxed up for DH to take to the charity shop tomorrow.

fourmonthstogo · 27/01/2023 07:45

Yesterday was the first day I couldn't keep up, so I only got 3 out of the 26. And today and the weekend are busy too so I might struggle, but hopefully I can get some things sorted if not the full quota.
There are still sock drawers to look at after all!

BrewandBiscuit · 27/01/2023 08:58

I am back on it today as its my day off.

Yesterday I binned 2 crappy old baking sheets and did the front garden plant pots. Composted 5 dead plants. So 442/500.

Today I'm hitting the shed and back garden so will definitely get to 500 today!

SquashesPumpkinsAutumnBliss · 27/01/2023 10:19

Am on day 16 today. A productive morning:

9 items of toddler clothes given to friends
3 sticker books, full, no longer needed
3 unwanted workbooks ( bought in lockdown, not used)
1 big pile of paper chains - sat there since Christmas

145/496

Sallygoroundtheroses · 27/01/2023 19:20

Still not well so just deleted more photos. I’m hoping to do kids toys tomorrow.

BrewandBiscuit · 27/01/2023 20:55

500 target hit! Woo hoo! Could still probably get more out the house, so will continue tomorrow with the help of my son

mum2jakie · 27/01/2023 22:59

10 random items dropped off at charity shop using old packaging instead of a carrier bag. Sharps box handed in to GP. Holey sock, used compression stockings, cardboard box and selection of old paperwork binned.

Minimum out today= 16

Orcubed · 28/01/2023 07:47

Wow well done @BrewandBiscuit 🎖

I can scrape to 330 IF I count every individual kids’ drawing I binned but that feels like cheating!

LolaSmiles · 28/01/2023 10:00

Orcubed
I think they count and don't think you'd be cheating by counting them.

Each item that leaves the house is one less item of visual distraction and one less thing that has to be mentally/physically dealt with at another time.
