I’m doing the 31 Day declutter challenge

I’ve done it before but not for a while. Despite a huge effort to declutter last year, the house is looking a bit chaotic again. So 1 item on day 1, 2 on day 2 etc.

I’m off to find an item…

I've hit 10 today so another one banked for another day (4 banked)
Today's included a cycle helmet left out for someone to take (went v quickly!), some manky old raisins and oatcakes, and my personal favourite, some money in a coin bag that no one knew who it belonged to. So now it's in my wallet.

I'm in and following along but not much time to post. I'm doing a tally up to the 491(?) mark. Only on 20 so far but have a few to add from the weekend.

Does pruning a tree count?

My highlights are a candle that smells like those awful scented sanitary towels (WTF?) and three sagging honeycomb paper Christmas decs. The other stuff is boring old magazines, cardboard boxes, and various things for the chazza. Am reading like mad to get a very lowbrow book into the charity bag :-D

Hmm, de-cluttered 6 and a half but can only count 2 and a half. De-cluttered two old t-shirts from t-shirt drawer, but put them to be used as cat blankets so still in house. De-cluttered dress hanging on outside of wardrobe door by taking to dry cleaners at last, but obviously it will back in wardrobe soon. Put a cracked cat food bowl in the recycling and have earmarked another, but intending to replace both with new. Remaining contents of an expired fruit tin consumed, counts as half, plus two pretty tube packaging containers, have kept for 6 months but no use has emerged, so sadly gone into recycling.

Running total 105/500.

old towels (recycles into cleaning cloths but still...)
Book shelves so about 15 books
Kids rooms have resulted in 3 bags of rubbish and loads of toys for charity shop so winning this week!

Managed to get rid of 9 old bits of makeup today. I'm still behind but only by days 2-7 so I owe 27 items I think

Dried up pens, 2 very old phones with cracked screens, cables.

Day 8: Items out of garage to the tip!

Old toilet and sink to the tip ( been sat in the garage too long!)
5 books charity shop pile - put in car to drop off tomorrow
1 old iron to tip
1 broken hedge cutter

Day 9: sorted Christmas things

one pile of Christmas cards ( count as 1)
2 gift boxes
1 broken Christmas decoration

1 pile of packaging from Christmas gifts

Bit of a struggle today. Not that there’s not lots
of clutter to go but the obvious stuff is gone and the rest needs a bit more pulling out of drawers/cupboards. That takes a bit more time than I have in the week. Today was some gloves and old pens, totalling 9.

Tomorrow I’ll do a bag of clothes that have been stuffed in the wardrobe.

23 today taking total to 281!

My old dressing gown binned. (I had a new one for Christmas and really don't need a spare dressing gown!) Old one was stained (tmi) and the belt loop was broken.

Also had a quick look at the junk drawer. A broken pen and a few random bits of clutter out too.

121/310. Three items listed on a free site collected, and a cardboard box being used for storage recycled (contents put away properly)

@fourmonthstogo love the coin bag tidy up! I also found a random £1 on the stairs so tidied that up 😂

ds outgrown scout trousers recycled, eco deodorant that doesn’t work binned, polyester work blouse recycled, 2 work cardigans sold. The work wardrobe is getting attacked as I can’t stand a lot of the tops I had pre-covid and I’m wfh apart from once a month. I’m going to try and create a capsule work wardrobe as and when I find things I like eventually (but not on this thread ha ha)

Had a busy day at work so didn't really get a chance to declutter anything substantial. But I binned some junk mail, chopped up all the sorry looking veg in the bottom of the fridge to chuck in the slow cooker tomorrow so we can have vegetable soup for dinner. Have some leftover part baked baguettes from Christmas so no need to buy more bread. Also chucked a box of mint chocolates in my bag to take into work. If tomorrow is as hard then we will need them 🤣 and I've also got some shampoo and conditioner that doesn't work for our hair which I'm taking into work for the mud kitchen.

Still haven't made it to a charity shop and prime declutter time (right before my bedtime) was interrupted by DC2 wailing, which woke DC1 up, which resulted in double wailing 🤦🏼‍♀️

Too soon! Chucked one old birthday card and a board book that was mainly sellotape.

39/45 but with lots of ideas!

I haven't made it to the charity shop either, but I HATE those sort of errands so I'm building up to a carboot full!

Underserved? Under bed.

10 hand made face masks from way back when we couldn't get the medical ones for less than 20quid.

I got them from Etsy and they are beautifully made and wash very well. But I never want to go back to those dark days.

Ventured bravely into a Cupboard of Doom. Have filled half a black sack already. Easily 30 items so far (miscellaneous, mostly small to tiny).
Larger items pending.
