I’ve done it before but not for a while. Despite a huge effort to declutter last year, the house is looking a bit chaotic again. So 1 item on day 1, 2 on day 2 etc.

I’m off to find an item…

One Fortnums cardboard box - I can’t justify keeping it even though it has a pretty turquoise interior!

Out of date (2021) madras curry paste - had it for dinner

All Christmas cards

Slower progress today, disappointing haul from last food cupboard (although good nothing else wasted) - would be 6 tins a bit expired but we might eat them anyway. 4 things gone to adult DC, 3 expired foods. 7. Running total: 93/500.

I missed posting yesterday - books from dcs shelves, easily 10.
Today, card, magazine, wine bottle, assorted "stuffage".
Tomorrow needs to be a bit more focussed!

I am delurking to post but I am not sure of my number so far. All I know is that I have decluttered the following since 3rd Jan:

• 2 Buffy pictures (Olio)
• 10 small storage bits and pieces (Olio)
• 1 bag of rubbish
• 1 bag of recycling (leaflets, Christmas cards etc)
• 4 full bags to charity (clothes, books, shoes, toys)
• 1 computer chair (on Olio but it is 1 out 1 in as I received a new computer chair for Christmas)

I have appreciated seeing the posts and it has given me inspiration to get going on the decluttering.

I have done day 7 tonight, as busy tomorrow.

Went through 2 jewellery boxes and threw away 3 old, costume bracelets I have had since I was a teenager, 4 pairs of cheap earrings I have not worn for 30 years. Plus 2 empty jewellery cases. Plus went to the tip with an old sink, mirror, radiator plus all the packaging from the new ones we had fitted months ago ( count as 3)

36/496 ( decided to use this numbering as trying to find more items each day I sort an “area out.”

Day 7

Just a couple of things today. Some out of date eye drops and used up a little bottle of shower gel.

That's it for today, I'll make up the shortfall tomorrow when I plan to clear out the kitchen utensils drawer.

Late in the day, but just done the last of my 7. The cat helped with one, by eating a random lickilicks that I found

Yesterdays meagre efforts- 4 hangers, an old never to be used soap, an old bathroom sponge and a holey sock.

Today
2 boxes of loft crap to the tip.
Mice have been in there so it's a good time to just clear it out.

My numbers are a guesstimate but as long as I hit the minimum for the day I'm happy.
There are days when I'm out of the house from 7-630 so those days I'll do a lot less. However, I seem to be decluttering wherever I go now...

So far:

• 11 glasses / jars into recycling
• old, brittle carrier bags in the bin (counting as 1)
• broken recycling box lid in the bin

May do a bit more later but so far today 40/496 or 40/35

Got an important couple of days coming up, but after that I think I'm going to take inspirations from PPs and embrace Olio.

Where are people getting rid of clothes? My local clothing bins at the supermarkets are stuffed full each time I go, and I can't carry the bags into town to the charity shops.

Some charities will collect. It varies locally but have a Google, put in a request and I'm sure someone will come.

That might need to be my next approach. Having bags of items in the house is cluttering my spare room up and not giving me the growing sense of calm I was hoping for.

I'm slightly worried I've peaked too soon on this challenge and it's going to be a struggle at the end.

I haven't done what I'd planned today. Will try to do more later..

I've just done one of the DC drawers. 8 pairs of underwear, 16 pairs of socks!! I think I'm going for a running today now otherwise will get confused. Also, 2 balloons, abd 1 random plastic tub. So another 35.

I'm lurking as I'm several days behind due to the sick bug (unless you count decluttering a duvet which was beyond saving) but today I sorted out the expired medicines and there were 8 which was so satisfying I had to tell everyone

Broken coathangers and old make up went out today.
