Spare towels and sheets- where are yours?

Foxgloveleaf · 30/09/2022 13:01

We’ve got a large airing cupboard but it’s bursting with towels we don’t use and bedding that is rarely used.

How do you store yours? (Already do the MN tip of duvet inside a pillowcase) shall I just get rid of most of it?

Spare bedding - 1 spare set per bed. Lives under the bed it belongs to

BrownOrangeRed · 30/09/2022 13:08

In the laundry room. Before we moved here and had that luxury we stored everything in vacuum bags under the bed

Cynderella · 30/09/2022 19:54

Used to be like this, but the answer to your problem is in the phrases 'we don't use' and 'rarely use'.

I will probably regret not having an old towel, another sheet or whatever at some point, but I'll risk that for having a tidy cupboard where I now have room for what I do use.

InvincibleInvisibility · 01/10/2022 21:11

1 spare set of sheets per bed kept in the same room as the bed.

Towels: drastically reduced so we have enough towels in an emergency (leak, sickness) but not too many so can easily be stored in one drawer.

GreenManalishi · 01/10/2022 21:15

Cupboard on landing, towels rolled and stored stacked on shelf, bedding is three identical sets per bed, stored in crates. Pillowcases in one, and fitted sheets and duvet covers by size in others. Recently had a cull and feeling no pain! Do it.

MinervaTerrathorn · 01/10/2022 21:22

In the cupboard with the boiler, I have a shelf under the boiler and they live there. We have a full spare set of bedding and a flannelette sheet for each of two beds, and some towels. Only two of us though.

CrotchetyQuaver · 01/10/2022 21:26

3 sets bedding per bed, 2 sets not in use/in the wash are stored in the same bedroom.

Towels, 2 sets per person plus random spares for dogs and the unexpected. In use towels on the bathroom heated towel rail, the others in the airing cupboard which is in the bathroom. Towels changed weekly not after every use.

Excitingly I'm thinking of moving the duvet covers to the utility room..

Take your time, it's a big decision.

We keep 1 spare bedding set, 1 spare towel and 1 swimming towel per person in the airing cupboard. We have a small amount of "spare spares" (a couple of old towels for radiator leaks etc) on a high shelf in a wardrobe. That's it. Loads of space in the airing cupboard now and it's just much less annoying.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 04/10/2022 17:32

In the linen cupboard. No, seriously.

FabulousFlamingo · 04/10/2022 17:46

If anyone would like to share a photo of their laundry cupboard I'd love to see it! It's a constant source of irritation for me that I just cannot get my laundry cupboard organised however many times I clear it out and tidy it. My shelves are tall and deep so everything gets shoved to the back. What do I need???

I don't have an airing cupboard, so mine are stored in a blanket chest in DS's room.

FabulousFlamingo · 04/10/2022 18:20

Thank you @MinervaTerrathorn Looking at your photo I think my problem is I just have too much stuff!!!

We only have two people and two beds

Floralnomad · 04/10/2022 18:29

Our airing cupboard was stacked with sheets / duvet covers / towels that barely ever got used if at all so this summer we had a massive clear out . The towels I wanted to keep are now all organised on a shelving unit in the family bathroom and the duvets we kept are all paired with sheets and pillowcases in piles in teh airing cupboard and there is one small pile of extra pillow cases .

woulducouldushouldu · 04/10/2022 18:36

We had our main bathroom redone recently and I sacrificed the bath for a separate laundry/linen cupboard. We have another bath in the house and I figured that when we eventually sell the house (many years from now) the buyers will prob gut the place anyway and if they want a bath then they can have one put in.

Somewhere to put all the sheets, towels, hover, etc was worth more to me than a bath I will only use 5 or 10 times in 20 years (we do have a lovely large walk in shower instead).

I have been found in said linen cupboard admiring (ok stroking) my organised shelves and putting little printed out labels so everyone knows what goes where.

Sad but blissfully happy

Also forgot that the spare single bedding set is on the fold out bed at the moment. We have a full spare set and a flannelette sheet per bed.

FourChimneys · 04/10/2022 18:44

In the walk in, heated laundry cupboard. I know it sounds swanky but it's not as posh as it sounds.

Sheets, pillowcases and duvet covers on one shelf. Towels on another. Random things like tablecloths (rarely used) on a third. Spare blankets and a couple of sleeping bags at the top.

WithIcePlease · 04/10/2022 18:58

I only have I set of towels for each bathroom (3 bath 1 hand in one, 2 bath 1 hand in the other) and 2 v old bath sheets for spares.
If anyone is desperate they can use a beach towel
Never been a problem even when DC at home

I have one spare superking duvet cover for whole house. But there's a made up spare room so that could be used I suppose.

Never had problems. It would be different if no tumble dryer though

whysorude · 04/10/2022 19:13

Bed linen, towels and cushion covers are kept in the hot press. Recently did a huge clear out but you'd never know to look at it 😳

ginghamstarfish · 04/10/2022 19:29

No airing cupboard, we made a linen cupboard by adding shelves inside a wardrobe.

Wallywobbles · 04/10/2022 19:33

Spare towels go in the spar bathroom. Everyone keeps their spare set in their rooms.

Montgomerymmoose · 04/10/2022 19:37

In the airing cupboard . I'm going to move them , not sure where yet . I'm planning to use the airing cupboard for actually airing clothes .

caringcarer · 04/10/2022 19:45

Bedding drawers under bed. Towels airing cupboard.
