Spare towels and sheets- where are yours?

We’ve got a large airing cupboard but it’s bursting with towels we don’t use and bedding that is rarely used.

How do you store yours? (Already do the MN tip of duvet inside a pillowcase) shall I just get rid of most of it?

Airing cupboard, and seriously culled - 2 sets per bed plus a few mix and match pillowcases. 2 sets of guest towels and a small pile of spares.

The bonus of culling is that I have a shelf to finish off and air laundry dried on the line or clothes horse.

Used to keep all bedding & towels in the airing cupboard (it was huge) but the new house doesn't have one.

Now, towels are kept in a cupboard on the landing and bedding in a cupboard in the guest bedroom.
Spare duvets & pillows are kept in the spare bedroom in the ottoman bed.

Everything's in the airing cupboard except for one set of bedding in a spare room drawer.

We have two king size beds with two sets per bed (one on bed and a spare for wash day. And one single bed, rarely used so it has only one set and that's on the bed.

Only bathroom towels are in the airing cupboard. Kitchen towels are stored in a kitchen drawer.
I give away old towels as soon as I buy new. Ditto bedding.
Once I've bought new stuff, I don't really want to use the old bedding again.
We have never regretted paring down our linen stock. It's quite liberating.

All the towels are rolled on a shelf in the family bathroom and people collect them from there.

Each bed has one spare set of bedding in the wardrobe of the room it belongs to.

Spare bed lifts up and any other bedding for sleepovers etc lives under there.

Mine are in the airing cupboard. That's where I thought they went!

Justleaveitblankthen · 04/10/2022 23:50

I have a large Bedding box 😁 Someone upthread used the term 'Blanket Chest'

It's nothing fancier than plain wood, but it's Donkey's years old and has been passed down the family (and even before then it was 'acquired' from other folks)

worriedatthistime · 05/10/2022 00:17

Both ds have 2/3 sets under there beds so we know whose is whose
We have 3 sets in airer , plus 2 single sets for sleepovers and one spare double for guests
Got rid of a load as we had a lot we just didn't use
Towels I have a lot but some are more for beach, trying to allocate 2 each per person and they can only use 2 in a week as currently my teenagers go through about 6 a week

You need to do a huge cull!!

Keep a few old towels in the garage but get rid of the rest. If you've a large cupboard then quantity is your problem here not where to store 🤷🏼‍♀️

Get rid of your excess towels to a vet's or animal rescue, they're always in demand.

yomellamoHelly · 07/10/2022 07:12

Spare towels are in the bathroom to which they belong. Spare set of bedding in bedroom to which they belong. Beach towels (1 each) in emptiest of 3 bathroom cupboards.

StillNotWarm · 07/10/2022 08:25

I think I have massively less linen than you all.
We have 2 drawers under the foor of our bed. One has all the sheets not on the (4) beds in the house. The other has all the towels not in use.

PuttingDownRoots · 07/10/2022 08:41

Normal towels in airing cupboard, along with guest bedding and blankets.

Kids bedding g in their rooms, as is our spare set.

I've just sorted this yesterday!

We then have a box of old towels in the attic for camping, watersports, emergencies etc.

CaronPoivre · 07/10/2022 08:49

Bedding sets for each room go in the bottom drawer of the wardrobe in each room. One on bed, two spare sets for each. Towels also go in each room. Each room has towels with different coloured ribbon hanging loops - one set hung in bathrooms, one in drawers with bedding. Pool/beach towels that matches colour of ribbons in each room with bedding.
Then odds and ends in the linen store.

RampantIvy · 07/10/2022 08:57

but it’s bursting with towels we don’t use and bedding that is rarely used.

Donate any you don't need to charity. Kennels and dog rescue places always want towels. If the bedding is in good nick donate it to a charity shop.

We keep our towels and bedding in the airing cupboard BTW.

Can't believe how little people have in their airing cupboards. I definitely need a cull. When dc were all here we seem to need lots. Coming to and fro from college meant more building up They always seemed to have friends staying and it was all needed. But they have all moved out now and l genuinely don't know why its all still there. Tidy but taking up space.
When l strip beds l wash/ dry and pop same ones back so don't need lots of changes.
Same with towels. Unless l have a whole shelf stacked with bath towels l am agitated until they are all washed and back again. I may have to totally rethink.
