Just realised we filled up Thread 2 without a way to link to this one, can’t see that anyone else has started one?

I did drop back the borrowed boots, go me!

didn’t tackle the umbrella pot/dumping ground though

Can I join? I have too much stuff but never seem to have time to go through the cupboards. I'm loving the idea of 2023 things as a target and I've downloaded a tally app to make it easy to keep track. Because I want to press that button I've cleared 46 things already - mostly my clothes and accessories which is prob the easy pickings but feel it's a decent start!

Old hair dryer and a very old brush styler for electrical recycling. Spare travel toiletries put into a cosmetics bag - less likely to be buried in avalanche when opening the cupboard now.

SydneyCarton · 22/01/2023 10:09

Receipt from Tesco online delivery
Letter from neighbour
2 holiday brochures
3 bits of Kumon paperwork
4 bits of DC scribbling from school
Birthday Girl badge
A Christmas card
Little bottle of bubble mixture

A pair of tights and a pair of pyjamas, both too small

If you’re not just going to use them up can I suggest putting them in your suitcase so they’re there? I try to keep some travel minis in my wash bag which lives in my suitcase.

ememem84 · 22/01/2023 12:18

Ins - or will be ins in a few days - shelves for the shower, a cable organiser, a new travel wash bag, some compression packing cubes (a gift for dsis).

Gassylady · 22/01/2023 19:34

@ememem84 if you need to fill your new travel was bag I could help 🤣 Great idea to store it in the case but it flits between overnight case, backpack and large suitcase.

ememem84 · 22/01/2023 22:05

@Gassylady hahaha no. I’ve got a ton of stuff myself! Have only really been using the minis this trip so have used up loads. The current (broken) wash bag is pretty empty. I’m hoping I can ditch it here actually.

goal for 2023. Use up all toiletries I have in the stash at home. And only buy new when I’ve run out of a particular product.

IndianSummer78 · 22/01/2023 23:27

ememem84 I'm on the same goal except I think it'll take longer than a year to use them up.

I've identified a few more things to go but I'm not counting them until they've gone because I have form for changing my mind.

IndianSummer78 · 22/01/2023 23:29

Welcome to the thread turtleoo 46 is indeed a good start

No big progress here it’s always in spurts but my DS passed his driving test today !!!!! Then we got the insurance on his little car renewed to his new status right away and he drove his father back from the quite far away test centre on the motorways for the first time . when home he went on his first ever solo drive nearby .I decided not to fret while we chatted and he was out . he came back so happy , he said the sense of freedom was immense ! So happy for him and proud . One big thing now off the to do list thank god ! Next it’s the uni results on Wed I’m more nervous about . His little heart will break if he doesn’t get this one which is quite likely . There is still another top choice left after it that would be great too , it’s where DH got two degrees from but I know DS would love the Wed one . Then we still have to wait to hear from 2 schools for DD in early feb . I just want to get passed this and we’re taking the kids on a little city break to a new country for DD and a new city for DS to celebrate DS 18 th which is next weekend !

We did manage to move the big display cabinet in the dining room to the other side so we’re one step closer to getting the room done ,I just need a dining table ( have chairs ) and for DH to hang the lamp . He hadn’t had time to list the Olio pile yet . Soon hopefully done with the yearly maintenance tasks , biking the gutters skylights and solar panels cleaning is in progress and then just two more jobs left carpets and utility room sink plus need to have kitchen water filter changed in March . Lots of admin to do and some replacing stuff like the suitcases I’ve earmarked to go . 3 w to our trip although it’s short it’ll take up time and effort but I will have to get more appointments scheduled and decluttering done , need to finish DD room and things like the messy art drawer in the downstairs needs doing . I’ve been feeling depressed so everything is dragging .
Went to the cinema tonight with DH it was good to be out , and have roped mother in law to watch the kids and the dog for my summer birthday weekend like last y so need to book that too . Just a few bits going since no active decluttering here since we did the dining room a while ago .
Out :
-1 old hand gel
-1 old hand soap
-2 sample sizes creams used up
-3 old tennis balls
-1 plant to garden waste
-1 too big old dog bed
-1 friends water bottle DD brought home
-1 gift bag to recycling
-2 pairs of old pants
-13 pairs of old socks
-1 badge from the Pony magazine

Next I’m still going to read and finish a book but it’s DH Christmas present book so not going out after , the one I’ll start following it will though …

stealthninjamum · 23/01/2023 00:49

incessantnamechanger I’m glad to hear you’ve possibly found a school for ds, I hope it works out.

Not done much decluttering. I’ve recycled some tampons as I’m menopausal and don’t think I’ll be using them again. Also a toner that was always a bit harsh on my skin.

I wanted to do the playroom and dd1s bedroom this month but haven’t even gone in them. A lot of the toys are dd1s but she seems to have two big exams a week at the moment so is studying all the time or relaxing. She has asd and adhd needs lots of downtime not me in her room trying to tidy.

Turtleoo · 23/01/2023 06:22

Did well yesterday, went through my underwear drawer and got rid of 25 pairs of knickers that were worn out/too small. Also sorted some hats, my son's shorts, and finally got rid of a pair of glasses that appeared on my bedside table about 6m after I moved in (7 years ago now!) and I never worked out whose they were 🤔😯
Also tried on some clothes that I was on the fence about keeping but they don't fit so they are out

Progress will slow down now back into the weekly grind but at the moment on 88/2023

SydneyCarton · 23/01/2023 08:01

3 bits of school scribbling

Pigtailsandall · 23/01/2023 10:11

Hi, can I join this thread? We live in a small 3-bed house, and I've actually been minimizing our belongings for about 3 years now. We are in a fairly good stage, with all the big excess bits gone, but there's still quite a bit of room for improvement. I have always been fairly good at getting rid of stuff we didn't use, but for the last 3 years I've tried really hard to assess what we actually need and use, and to get rid of excess. For the last year, I have really concentrated on not bringing unnecessary stuff in and cutting the clutter at the source. But I still have things I need to reassess and donate/sell

Pigtailsandall · 23/01/2023 10:54

I forgot to say that what prompted me to join this was that I listed 4 fairly bulky items for collection on a local FB buy nothing group and they were all collected within 36 hours!
My old winter coat
an electric heater
a clothes airer
kids' jigsaw puzzle

so great when that works out and stuff goes to use.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 23/01/2023 12:32

The weekend seemed to rush by, but did get DD to finish tidying her room, again.

11 clothing items to recycling
15 clothing items to charity bag
5 craft bits to paper recycling
approx 20 bits to the bin (cba to count each bit!)

212+51=263

Can I join you all please?

Had a big stash of stuff to drop off at my local charity shop warehouse this morning but when I got there it was closed Hmm so then spent the next hour and 3/4 looking for an alternative place to deposit it all.

I didn't actually count everything but at a rough guess:

20 dvds
3 items of clothing
picnic blanket
15 cups
M&S Christmas biscuit tin
Set of 6 glasses
Child's walker
3 children's games

Had to bring home a box of books because they wouldn't take them but there is someone locally who will come and collect them so I've sent a message requesting a pick up - hopefully they'll be gone tomorrow.

My house is so cluttered and disorganised, I'm drowning in it all but have been a lot more proactive since New Year which is making me feel more positive.

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 23/01/2023 14:49

This morning I decluttered two outgrown tops and more than a dozen pairs of ripped and/or outgrown tights and underpants from child's wardrobe.

Bottl · 23/01/2023 15:59

Does decluttering the car count?? Just removed two cd cases, 1 cd (not related the either box) and an empty ibuprofen box

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 23/01/2023 18:35

Since I last posted…

Kids top
2 pairs tights
Face wash I can’t stand the smell of
5 old hairbands
4 kids games
4 candle holders
Small decorative cup
4 items returned
2 storage tins

24 more items, total 252/2023

IndianSummer78 · 23/01/2023 18:41

Hi bottl and pigtails. Yes the car counts. I haven't decluttered anything today but I've earmarked some things to go out next week.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 23/01/2023 19:35

I would yes definitely the car counts, I’ve known people use their cars for extra storage for stuff before so definitely.

one boys coat & kids gloves into charity bag
3 bits of paperwork from my pile into recycling

currently Decluttering some small cava bottles I won in a raffle - still on holiday/between jobs mode so I’m letting myself off my normal alcohol-free days!

263 + 5 = 268

One too gloopy to use any more nail polish into the bin.
