Just realised we filled up Thread 2 without a way to link to this one, can’t see that anyone else has started one?

I did drop back the borrowed boots, go me!

didn’t tackle the umbrella pot/dumping ground though

May I tag along? I am overwhelmed with stuff. DP is based away with work much of the time. My DC generate so much mess it’s enough just keeping up with it and doing everything needed in the day to day. I need a constant reminder to myself to also find the energy to get rid of stuff.
DC not really able to help declutter themselves due to some issues they have. I would appreciate just being able to follow everyone’s wins for inspiration and to document progress a bit on here if that’s OK?

LivingInaBuildingSite · 19/01/2023 16:54

we,come @freckles20 & @DeeClutterer
my DH is away a lot too, my kids are getting older but still seem to create clutter, esp DD who is 11 and loves everything!

have sat and gone through some old files while watching tennis, plus sorted through some running stuff and a small stationery pile.

10 items to charity box
5 items to the bin
33 letters/forms/papers to recycling

162 + 48 = 210/2023

funny I've been bringing newspapers in to dry all the wet rugby boots and trail shoes! I take a few from Waitrose or Morrisons then they go out afterwards

GodSaveTheClean · 19/01/2023 18:56

You are an inspiration @LivingInaBuildingSite !

I haven’t been home much today so no decluttering there but I did say goodbye to 14 old pens and a broken jar from my office desk. They were personal items so I’m counting them!

Hoping to tackle clothes this weekend.

119/1000

DeeClutterer · 19/01/2023 20:08

Thank you LivingInABuildingSite Smile
Today I sorted the recycling out, adding in much of the contents of one cupboard of hoardy empty jam jars (reluctantly accepting that I will not be making jam in January or any time soon!) and filled two carrier bags of the kids’ clothes to take to the charity shop. Result!

Jellycatrabbit · 20/01/2023 10:24

Good progress here although I start work on Monday after 15 months off so progress will soon slow

50 clothed out, some on freecycle some to rags some to CS. 13 toys. 100 old wedding invitations, orders of service, gift list cards, venue directions etc.

324/1000 (maybe need to make my target more amus!)

SydneyCarton · 20/01/2023 16:43

One pair of holey socks
Pair of boy's joggers with a hole
Panettone we didn't eat from last Christmas Confused
Three sachets of Dioralyte which were OOD

48/2023

EllieQ · 20/01/2023 17:57

Two books gone in the charity bag today . I’d read them both a few years ago, but realised I wasn’t going to read them again.

This created space on the bookshelves for two books from the overflow (and double stacked) bookcase upstairs 😁

LivingInaBuildingSite · 20/01/2023 18:46

broken takeaway box into recycling

210+1=211

personally have never seen the appeal of panettone, dry bread with fruit in.

I start a new job in Feb, and feel like my life won’t be in my control anymore so have to get as much done before then as poss.
but went for a walk with a friend, then had to go for more jabs pre job (ambulance job) and started on a cake for DS2’s birthday tomorrow.
so not much Decluttering today.

I made a huge dent over the past two day

our wardrobe - one black bag gone

utility - about the same (cardboard gone to recycling and all the half eaten selection boxes and junk has been sorted

feel great

seperatedmum · 20/01/2023 20:31

one very holey pair of knickers out don't think there was anything else today sadly

ImJustMadAboutSaffron · 20/01/2023 23:46

A thrilling Friday evening at the hairdresser, cat sitting, collecting keys for another job and clearing out my cupboard-under-the-sink. Chucked lots of ancient sponges and scrubbers, skanky rubber gloves and empty glass jars for recycling. And much more space.

I've moved out of the staff room into an office I'm sharing with one other colleague. The last occupant retired at the time of lockdown and so we started clearing drawers etc.

Found a pair of Underpants. In the bin with them!

freckles20 · 21/01/2023 00:38

I've been spurred on by reading about other people's progress on this thread, thank you.

So far I've put two pairs of DS' outgrown school trousers in the clothing recycling, and thrown out 18 socks that had no pair.

I washed every single sock that I could find to identify the solo ones. I've a nagging worry about throwing them away but in reality we have way way way too many socks and at times the clean ones which are waiting to be paired can fill a washing basket to overflowing.

Typing that made me realise that I probably put some of the paired ones in a fabric recycling bin because we still have way too many! Ah well, progress and not perfection.....

Total: 20 items in 2023

Nordicmom · 21/01/2023 03:19

I need to check but from my master list it looks like I’m around 330 ish out this year so far and haven’t always counted every individual item . Much more left .

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 21/01/2023 08:36

I'd like to join in. I've been here before under a different username. It's been months since I posted. I used to declutter in fits and starts. Now that arthritis has settled in, it's time to learn to do a little and often.

IncessantNameChanger · 21/01/2023 11:10

I had one epic day last week bit that was it. Got rid of about 70 things in one day!

I think I have school for my son nonowim very close to being at the end of this current nightmareand once i am, im going to really throw myself into decluttering. This week im going to go through more of the kids out groen clothes again.

LivingInaBuildingSite · 21/01/2023 14:51

Kids handwriting practice whiteboard into charity box

211+1=212

ds2’s presents in but not too many and some practical like a new coat, hat and gloves.

Gassylady · 21/01/2023 16:02

More socks and pants into fabric recycling. Few bits clothing into charity bag along with some kids DVDs they are too old for now. A candle holder also into charity bag, I never burn themes I prefer diffusers. This one is too shallow to look convincing with a fake tea light too.

seperatedmum · 21/01/2023 21:27

oh dear @ImJustMadAboutSaffron 🙊
all I did today was; youngest cleared some outgrown clothes from her drawer which can go next door

SydneyCarton · 21/01/2023 21:45

@LivingInaBuildingSite I think the panettone came in a Waitrose delivery which was a Christmas present from my mum. I don’t mind the odd slice but the whole thing just seemed a bit much and no one was particularly inclined to get stuck in so it just lingered!

One little plastic knife from an old teaset out 49/2023

ememem84 · 21/01/2023 23:05

Used up some things yesterday. Mainly a foundation an under eye concealer a mascara and an eyeliner pencil. Nothing massive. But this will help with the suitcase weight on the way home!

ds also refused to ever wear a pair of shorts again because they have a hole in the pocket. So they’ve gone too.

IndianSummer78 · 22/01/2023 01:52

An unwanted DVD gone today. Total things out is 17 this year

ememem84 · 22/01/2023 02:35

used up miceller water too. So that’s gone. No more make up for the rest of the trip (3 days).

TidyClutterIsStillClutter · 22/01/2023 06:50

Yesterday - made a start by not keeping packaging that might come in useful sometime, with several plastic bags and tubs going to recycling. Same for cardboard chocolates box.

Today - get all the uniform washed and dried for sorting outgrown items tomorrow.
