Washing liquid that leaves your clothes smelling fabulous

After a disappointing experience with a supermarket own brand that left my clothes smelling the same as when they went into the machine dirty, what liquids will make my washing smell glorious?

Blue lenor, and hang it outside on the line after!

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 10/08/2022 09:58

My combination is Persil liquid followed by yellow Lenor and line dried.

dementedpixie · 10/08/2022 09:59

I'd use powder rather than liquid as it keeps the washing machine drum cleaner

Sweetandsour1 · 10/08/2022 10:07

depends what you like but we use Surf Coconut and smells amazing. Haven’t found it everywhere- usually find it in B&M or Wilko

Luxa · 10/08/2022 10:13

Give the machine a clean too.

lexi873 · 10/08/2022 10:17

I use Lenor in wash scent booster beads, with the matching fabric conditioner, usually the gold one. Makes my washing smell great.

shivbo2014 · 10/08/2022 10:18

I use aerial with blue lenor my clothes always smell lovely.

cinnamonbiscuit · 10/08/2022 10:26

Will second surf coconut!

SalviaOfficinalis · 10/08/2022 10:29

Method lavender liquid smells incredible (though not particularly like lavender).

I stopped buying it because it’s quite expensive but still get the occasional waft of it on clothes that have been in the wardrobe and get a compulsion to sniff them. So good.

LittleGreenBeetle · 10/08/2022 10:31

I like the Surf Herbal Extracts. Smells very fresh.
Or Ecover liquid Lavender & Sandalwood.

Spacerader · 10/08/2022 10:34

Third aurf coconut. You can buy it in most supermarkets. I get mine from tesco.

Spacerader · 10/08/2022 10:34

Surf*

Fairy pods and fairy fabric conditioner, our clothes and bed linen/towels etc all smell amazing.

Louise0701 · 10/08/2022 10:37

Comfort strawberry & lily fabric softener then line dry.

BrokeAsABone · 10/08/2022 10:37

Nothing smells as good as the blue Comfort and line dried.

rightonthyme · 10/08/2022 10:37

Check the drawers on the machine - sometimes mould and residue builds up and makes clothes whiff a bit. I like yellow Lenor and drying in the sunshine, smells lovely.

Soproudoflionesses · 10/08/2022 10:47

Does anyone else find they get used to the smell of their detergent and scent so it doesn't always feel like it smells?
Maybe time to change brand for me!

Trivester · 10/08/2022 10:49

Even an own brand detergent shouldn’t smell unwashed afterwards. That sounds like a dirty machine.

I throw a good slosh of vinegar in with my towels to keep them soft and fluffy and it keeps the machine clean too.

Give the door seals a wipe and leave it open between washes.

Don’t switch detergent until you’ve cleaned the machine then test with the unimpressive detergent to make sure it’s coming out clean (kitchen cloths are a good test)

It could also be that you’re washing at too low a temperature and not getting the sweat and grease out of the clothes properly. Are you using a bio or non bio detergent?

hewouldwouldnthe · 10/08/2022 10:51

Surf.

Comfort strawberry & lily fabric softener then line dry.

I also use this softener. It's lovely, as is the sweet pea one

WingBingo · 10/08/2022 10:56

@SalviaOfficinalis I bought that but I can’t smell it.

do you add a lot and is it to the drawer?

sweeetpotato · 10/08/2022 11:00

I change it every couple of weeks otherwise I kind of become immune to the smell.

I always use Asda washing gel

And rotate fabric conditioner

Lenor gold
Fairy
Blue comfort
Blue
Lenor
Comfort strawberry and lily

Just a capful, and yes to the drawer.
How strange… you’ve not had covid had you?

Bossyboo · 10/08/2022 11:05

Ariel colour liquid smells so clean and fresh. Sometimes use fabric softener which adds to the lovely scent but isn't needed. And yes to the line drying if possible! Smile

WingBingo · 10/08/2022 12:31

not at the time, no. I shall give it another go as it’s a big bottle and it’s expensive. I found it not great on tough stains but ok for light soiling.
