Biotex is gone! What can I replace it with?

My multi-pack of Biotex stain remover has been decimated by my DS and his white clothes obsession, and I've now discovered it's no longer available in the UK. This is tragic. Does anyone have any suggestions for a non-bleach stain remover (preferably enzymatic like biotex) which is not that appalling Vanish rubbish that doesn't work?

Where did you get yours @Daisychain50

Daisychain50 · 26/10/2023 08:41

It was a while ago now but I do remember it came from the Netherlands. I just searched the internet until I found the best deal from someone who would post to the UK.
Good luck!

Daisychain50 · 26/10/2023 08:46

I’ve just had a look online and I think it was the Dutch expat shop. It came in a blue box rather than the green one was were used to.

Pepdory · 26/10/2023 10:25

I bought this one last week from ebay. It's in a Danish branded box but was exactly the same smell and performance as the last uk box I bought. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235270065044

Bio Tex biotex Washing Powder - Hand Wash & Soak 564g Blue Box | eBay

Blá Bio-tex has been developed especially for hand washing and soaking both white and colored textiles.

The powders work well, but biotex doesn't have the bleaching agents and optical brighteners. Sometimes it is useful to have the detergent and enzymes without them.

In that case if you use washing powder for colours as an alternative it should work fine, as this does not include bleach

At £16-99 a box PLUS postage. Biotex used to be £2-50. Sorry you were robbed! Unless you were the seller.

I’ve just run out of Biotex. This is a sad day.

Did we get anywhere working together to import expensive white powder from the Netherlands? 🤔

😂😂😂

TeddyBeans · 04/11/2023 10:45

Last time I picked some up (a couple years ago so might be out of date info) the only place I found it was Waitrose. Is it definitely gone completely from the UK?

Melroses · 04/11/2023 20:40

It hasn't been in Waitrose since before lockdown.

I dream of going on holiday to NL and coming back with a large box of biotex. I will probably be able to make a killing on it if the prices on this thread are right 😱

LadyEloise1 · 05/11/2023 10:32

Why is it no longer being sold in the UK ?

socialdilemmawhattodo · 05/11/2023 12:50

Danceswithweasels · 05/11/2023 09:55

Have you ordered from them? I cant get product pictures up, or an add to basket etc. Companies House suggests the limited company is dormant. It all looks closed to me. Even the date at the bottom of the webpage is 2013

We probably make a world beating equivalent to good old British standards and don't need that forrin stuff.

🙄 (I'm not a Brexitier)

isthismylifenow · 06/11/2023 12:02

Blimey that is a bit of a surprise. But I am glad to have read this thread as I don't live in the UK, but we have a shop here that sells exclusively UK imported items. And I was in there a few weeks back spoiling myself with really random British items, and I saw some Biotex in there! So I think I have to get a wobble on and go back and see if they still have it!!

While on the topic, what I have been searching high and low for is the blueing block for whites. Cannot find any anywhere. I remember years ago my mum using this, and our whites were gleaming white. I think that our white school socks were the reason for her using it, but we also always had the whitest of white table cloths and serviettes.

To be really honest I don't need it for the socks or a table cloth, I just want to try whiten up some fave white t-shirts that I just cannot find replacements for.

zookeeper3 · 07/11/2023 20:45

I could cry. Used it, my mum uses it.... Anyway with three teenage girls I need something for removing blood stains. Vanish oxyactive does not work which is not surprising as (having just checked) is non bio. Can anyone recommend an alternative? Would have joined the South Devon mass buy as from North Devon but now live in Edinburgh!

Biotexter · 24/01/2024 16:17

Hi, I have just ordered 5 boxes from the dutch expat site as a birthday gift for my girlfriend ( she is half Dutch and has complained endlessly about the demise of Biotex in the UK. 3 somehow seems more appropriate as a gift so happy to share. We live in Edinburgh.

Daisychain50 · 25/01/2024 08:17

I couldn’t do without my Biotex either and did the same! The boxes are quite big and will last a long time. Biotex knocks the socks off other so called stain removers in the UK.

Melroses · 25/01/2024 16:21

LadyEloise1 · 05/11/2023 10:32

Why is it no longer being sold in the UK ?

It is owned by Unilever. Big soap firms like Unilever and P&G are very ruthless about cutting lines that do not sell strongly. It is too niche in the UK.

LadyEloise1 · 25/01/2024 17:00

But if they advertised it and people like the Mumsnetters on this thread spread the word about its efficacy it could become a big seller.
The UK market is far bigger I'm sure than the Dutch market.

Melroses · 26/01/2024 10:31

Vanish is very heavily advertised and promoted in shops. I can't ever remember Biotex being advertised. Unilever could also add it as a package to supermarkets with their other products.

Gatekeeper · 26/01/2024 13:22

is that ebay and Dutch soap version the same as the one we could buy here though? 🤔 The UK one was sold as stain removing powder but the ones mentioned here are washing powder

Daisychain50 · 26/01/2024 18:03

Yes, it is the same 👍

Wbeezer · 26/01/2024 18:23

It'll be because of good old Brexit @LadyEloise1

@isthismylifenow my late mam used to talk about Recketts Blue being used when she was a child as using soap to do laundry made whites go yellow after a time

Just used my last box of Biotex on dd's muddy trousers. Can't believe they don't sell it anymore! I might have to go dutch!
