Fledglings summer holiday and fly their way through August into tidy organisation.

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/07/2022 14:23

Welcome to the August Thread for the Fledglings. This is a long running thread, some of us have been here from the start, we have had many posters come and go. We love when new people join us. We just request that you respect the thread community and understand that familiarity can make it seem clicky sometimes. There are inside jokes, there are phrases and terms we use specifically that others would not use in the same way. If we confuse you, ask. Someone will always explain - although these days the glichiness of the new platform means you may have to wait til someone wanders by as we are not quite as active as we used to be and the summer holiday always sees a quieter thread because people are quite rightly enjoying their selves instead of chores. --We encourage enjoying yourself, housework is not your life!

Now the formalities are done, lets me explain: we loosely follow the Flylady system. We DO NOT advocate signing up for the emails, experience tells us flylady is a little email happy and you will have more than you know what to do with.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

And lastly my favourite part of the threads - the naughty corner. This month the naughty corner is decked out with a pool, deck chairs sunshade and what ever cool drink and calorie free treat you need to survive the chaos. It is the perfect place to park if you need a chat and 5 mins from the kids, to restore your spirit on a Sunday or if you have been super active and need a break. You will notice we are a chatty bunch and don't stick to topic.

We start a new round of baby steps on the 1st August. If you join us mid way through the month you can jump in where we are, or start from the beginning as you chose. The babysteps repeat each month, and Flylady says that you are NEVER behind.

Glad you found the rings 💍 Red

Hills I was watching a badger set once wondering where the hike had come from that wasn't there last week, when up popped a young badger's head 🦡 and we looked at each other for a bit before it went back in. Sad about the roadkill. That was my experience too in an area with lots of badgers

Hope the first day back at school goes ok Weegie 🎓

Fingers crossed for the exam results ED

Happy birthday to your DH Hazel 🎉🎂🎈🎁🥳

Today didn't start well but was ultimately very productive.

Morning all

Just popping in to say hello and see how everyone is.

Todo
Sort out the decluttered mountain that is now in our bedroom.
Empty junk filled unit and move into ds's room because his chest of drawers are broken and can't afford to replace at the moment.
Book a slot at the tip for a few days time to motivate me to empty the shed as well.
Will let you know how many bag of clothes for donating and rubbish I accumulate!

Hope everyone has a great day and are enjoying the slightly lower and more manageable temperatures.

EquallyDivided · 18/08/2022 09:18

Hey shannara! (another long term fledgling here but have name changed yet again)

Aww hills I’ve never seen a badger IRL, I love them. It must be very sad seeing the casualties on the road though.

We have for the first time in this house had a hedgehog visiting this summer, we’ve made a shelter for it.

I really must get organised today, I was very lazy yesterday and read almost a whole novel (which admittedly is much better than just mindlessly scrolling my phone so at least that’s an improvement!).

Aims for today:
🎯finish second application form and send both (two different roles within the company - one and two steps up from my current role)
🎯read final chapter of uni textbook
🎯phone family friend re holiday
🎯clean bunny litter
🎯box-dye hair
🎯gather entertainment stuff for holiday - activity books, card games etc
🎯watch at least one episode of Handmaids Tale (it’s leaving prime soon and I want to at least finish season 3)
🎯start another novel
🎯laundry

Hmm. Best crack on really.

po3.1
❗️LOL
❗️try and find job description with notes
❗️decide what bits of form 1 can be used for form 2

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/08/2022 12:10

Lack of sleep and late nights have caught up with me bad. Feeling like death this morning. But i have finally got my exams results and passed so that is a relief. However, a power of 3 is needed.

PO3
get up - dressed and breakfast etc
pick up fish water
clean out tank

Hills sounds like you need to take it easy today., well done on passing your exams.
I would love to see a badger IRL as well.
My friend has hedgehogs visiting her garden, one has got really cheeky and keeps getting into the house!

Ta Da
Tesco's to get my flour that wasn't in for the online shop.
Washing on, out and probably dried.
Keep losing track of time when reading books on my Kindle as well.

reallynow1 · 19/08/2022 08:29

Hi all, a quiet week here this week. Have kept on top of the kitchen and it's lovely coming down to a clean kitchen every morning.

This week I am working on a room a day.
Yesterday was the living room.
Today is the dining room.
Plus some washing, making banana muffins, and some time on my long term project of my bedroom.

Over the years we have moved a lot and our bedroom has basically been a storage room as well. I want a lovely bedroom. I want to decorate it and spend time making it into a beautiful bedroom.

So this is my long term project. Doing it a section at a time... Slowly as a lot of decluttering is needed. And I don't just want to put piles elsewhere, it needs to be put away, binned, recycled or donated.

We are hoping my mother in law will come over for Christmas and this means her sleeping in our bedroom. This gives me a time frame to finish it in as well. 👍

Have a good day everyone. I'll come back later and update how I've done. (needs to be better than yesterday... Yesterday I binge watched 🙈🙈🙈🙈)

Shannaratiger · 19/08/2022 10:21

Morning all
On our way home from a lovely walk around a local lake.
Remembered to put the 6 bags of clothes out by 8 for collection.
Really I try and keep on top of the kitchen. Main problem I have is hot water, trying to put the boiler on as little as possible, sometimes not enough for bath and full washing up. All we can do is our best.

Have a good day everyone

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 19/08/2022 10:53

Really sometimes you just need a binge watch day! What are you watching? I’m almost at the end of Handmaid’s Tale series 3. Also been watching all of Brooklyn Nine-Nine with DS.

Yesterday wasn’t too bad productivity wise, I didn’t get all my list done but I did finish and send off my job applications, sort the bunny hutch, do a bit of uni reading and some packing for the holiday. Today need to just carry on with the last two of those. The weekend is a write off as DH is working so it’ll be hard to get much of my own stuff done with the Caglets around - need to make the most of the freedom today!

A week today we go on holiday - still can’t believe it, it’s been so long since we went anywhere!

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/08/2022 12:40

Only got 2 of the 3 things done yesterday but did do a couple of things else also.

Ooh I’ve heard good things about that show.

All a bit hectic here as it’s our local pride and DD1 was called in last minute by DH to help as lots dropped out. I still need to wash my hair as it’s beyond awful, then I just need to keep Cagletini entertained for the day as DS has a friend round (also last minute).

🎈Today I deep cleaned the porch which meant rehoming a lot of spiders! Really hoping they didn't lay eggs inside my shoes. Pulled back my duvet last month to find a big brown one in my bed which I thought was a bit cheeky. Not bothered by spiders themselves but the thought of corpses squished onto my body/clothing makes me feel ugh 😣
🎈Did a tiny bit of decluttering.
🎈Had a rare night out.
🎈Cleared a kitchen hotspot.

Redsquirrel5 · 21/08/2022 07:24

Managed to get back on. Was logged off during writing post the other day😤
Gave up.

Another load went last night, hopefully. Friend is having trouble with teenager girl 18 who is staying. It is adding to the drama.

I have no extra Refugee donation washing in the house👏🏼Yeah me. All washed and dried and sorted and some packed. Friend is thinking we are going to have to stop washing it. Why do people donate dirty clothes. A filthy jacket was donated on Thursday. Actually jacket quite nice but inside fur filthy, like drag through mud filthy. Why donate it.😤 Yuk! We are debating about washing or binning. I think it might be beyond washing as looks ingrained rather than dropped in mud.🤢 Looking forward to seeing a family today. I have cushions for girls and two Beatrix Potter books. One story matches bedding given.😊

on the home front
the boudoir is looking tidier.
I sorted out all tops from school and donated them. They just remind me of happier times there then I feel sad. Saw two ex pupils and had hugs on Friday and longish chat. Lovely. Both at Uni now.🤗 Also saw mum of ex pupil and he is finishing second Master’s. He struggled at Primary especially behaviour and we sorted it out and found he did have a disability. At 17 he was in top 3% in country in Maths. Now has two degrees and two Master’s and looking forward to PHD, also has a paper published as researched and discovered something with three others. So proud of him.

Boudoir
Decluttered summer tops and some autumn wear.
Re organised chest of drawers. Now other clothing fits in instead of piles.
Floor spaced mat completely visual.
Laundry baskets and contents removed.
Bed remade and fresh duvet cover on.
Magazines put into bag to take to market so I can Declutter there during lunch hour. I am taking about an hour off for lunch now as I get tired. It has made all the difference. Sometimes gets interrupted but easy to return to one page stories. Declutter recipes, patterns and travel to take home for filing. File boxes nearly full.
Beside tables dusted and tray cleaned.
Tablets put in weekday thingy.

Thanks about rings. So chuffed but tried to get booked in for valuation for insurance and the woman wasn’t keen at all. May take to Antique dealer. He of TV fame😄 he has business in city and I have two etching I would like valued oh and sister’s one too.

Bathroom tidy but floor not washed. I do think two people use it every day but only one seems capable of cleaning it.

ED I don’t think thick Cumberland sausage needs 45 minutes plus in oven do you? Skin tough and overlooked thanks DH. I came home like drowned rat yesterday. He was in pub when he said he would cook tea and gave me time to be back by. I prepared sausage and large garlic mushrooms on trays. He arrived back and washed potatoes, new and small.
Then he would look after it. Hmm. Overcooked most.

Hills glad you got a good sleep.

Red, well I suppose it depends on temp, but 45 mins does seem excessive. I did some shish kebab things in ours on Friday and they only took about 15 mins, but I did turn it up to 240 as I had potato wedges in too and wanted them to crisp up. It's nice having it back on now the weather has turned cooler. I baked bread rolls and cake today and have got my tomato glut slowly drying out in the bottom oven which is still off but slightly warm from the top one.

Hill - sorry about anxiety. No school return for us but one off to college and one to uni instead and I am feeling a bit underprepared and anxious. DS smashed his A level/BTEC predictions and we are very proud, DD gets GCSE results this week.

I have been decluttering. Several binbags of stuff to charity shops in the last week and a tip run this morning (mainly garden waste but also some broken electrics and toys).

Redsquirrel5 · 22/08/2022 00:07

Shanaratiger sorry meant to say great to hear from you.

ED I don’t know what temp he had it on. I won’t be letting him cook them next time. I asked him a couple of times but he insisted they weren’t ready.

We’ve had the hot plate and one oven on about 100-150 and bottom 10 -50. We have a stable door in the kitchen so just opened that and we don’t cook until about 7pm. It is on Eco from 9- 9am.
Yours sounds delicious. I haven’t made bread in it yet. First attempt failed to rise. No idea why. I am fancying some slow cooked harissa lamb.

DitzyBluebells · 22/08/2022 01:30

Not much going on here. A real lazy day. Never mind. Another week starts tomorrow.
