Welcome to the August Thread for the Fledglings. This is a long running thread, some of us have been here from the start, we have had many posters come and go. We love when new people join us. We just request that you respect the thread community and understand that familiarity can make it seem clicky sometimes. There are inside jokes, there are phrases and terms we use specifically that others would not use in the same way. If we confuse you, ask. Someone will always explain - although these days the glichiness of the new platform means you may have to wait til someone wanders by as we are not quite as active as we used to be and the summer holiday always sees a quieter thread because people are quite rightly enjoying their selves instead of chores. --We encourage enjoying yourself, housework is not your life!

Now the formalities are done, lets me explain: we loosely follow the Flylady system. We DO NOT advocate signing up for the emails, experience tells us flylady is a little email happy and you will have more than you know what to do with.

If you are new to the system start with the baby steps. These are designed to get you into a routine so you know longer think about doing the chores they are just habit. Set time, set day - do the thing. We do recognise that this is not a good system for quick decluttering and many of us in the past have combined this system with other systems for getting the heavy duty sorting out and cleaning out done. We don't judge.

And lastly my favourite part of the threads - the naughty corner. This month the naughty corner is decked out with a pool, deck chairs sunshade and what ever cool drink and calorie free treat you need to survive the chaos. It is the perfect place to park if you need a chat and 5 mins from the kids, to restore your spirit on a Sunday or if you have been super active and need a break. You will notice we are a chatty bunch and don't stick to topic.

We start a new round of baby steps on the 1st August. If you join us mid way through the month you can jump in where we are, or start from the beginning as you chose. The babysteps repeat each month, and Flylady says that you are NEVER behind.

Hello all,
i think i was on this a long while ago. I’ve recently unsubscribes from flylady emails - as you say they are a lot! Sometimes though they would deep into my brain and I would find myself cleaning my kitchen doors!

Is it ok to sit in the naughty corner and hope to get motivated?

HillsBesideTheSea · 31/07/2022 21:55

Willow thank you for previous thread. Hills thank you for this new one.

To do today and actually get done by lunchtime or else slide into a slough of despond -

Hot towel wash.
Dark bedding wash.
Put away all clean clothes.

Bag up outgrown clothes, and put in back of van for donation.

Fill recycling trolley for tomorrow.

Sweep fallen leaves off path. (Far more leaves than previous years.)

Hoover the stairs.

Tesco delivery order for tomorrow.

lothermand · 01/08/2022 08:26

I am new (actually I'm oldConfused) to this thread, and I desperately need some direction/motivation/help to declutter, and decorate my home..I am so overwhelmed I don't know where to start..

Spreadsheets seem a good idea, but I've no idea how to do a spreadsheet😩

I will be watching this for lots of tips!

Nice to meet you all😊

EspeciallyDeIighted · 01/08/2022 10:58

Morning all and welcome to the new Fledglings. Thanks for the new thread Hills and for last month Willow

BloomingHazel · 02/08/2022 06:59

Welcome lothermand the baby steps are a good idea, not so overwhelming that way. Feel free to ask us any questions as well.
I want to paint in my house too! We've lived in this house over a year and I haven't changed any wall colours. I think I know what I want too, which makes it harder to not find the time.

I ended up working all.day.long not only did I work my normal 10 hrs, (7am-6pm), I was asked if I could help out at my 2nd job. I said yes, of course, and worked from 7:30pm-10:35pm! I'm tired 😴 But they really needed the help, and it was rearranging and sorting and tidying, which is my favourite part of that job 😊
It's almost midnight here so I'm going to sleep now 😴
🍒👋 to everyone

WeegieGranny2022 · 02/08/2022 07:56

I managed about half of each to-do yesterday. The rest will get completed today. Except for sweeping leaves, which got finished just before the rain came on, much to my relief.

I realised why the path keeps getting in such a mess. The garden birds and wood pigeons chuck aside the loose leaves back onto the path from the beds in order to find woodlice. I haven't the heart to sweep the leaf liitter into the garden bin, as I love seeing the birds. Sometimes in the early morning, if I move quietly and calmly to tidy or whatever, the smallest birds flit about the bushes just a few feet away from me.

HillsBesideTheSea · 02/08/2022 08:26

Good morning.

Sorry for the lack of links yesterday, I pretty much slept 36hrs. Thankfully feeling slight more human-ish this morning. But i realised as i heard the rain that i still have washing on the line from sunday on the line Hmm

Welcome to Iothermand

Good morning all. I am a long time lurker, I pop in and out of threads, but never actually see a month out 🙈🙈. Here I am,, going to try again. I'm a little motivated as I've just come back from a cottage in Pembrokeshire and I've really enjoyed living in a decluttered house and being able to keep up with the housework (which to be fair was minimal as was on holiday) but I really want that decluttered home! So I shall try once again. School holidays mean my little people are around tho so I may also need time in the naught corner having some time out 😁. But for now, baby steps it is and unpacking from our holidays!

BloomingHazel · 02/08/2022 14:24

Welcome reallynow1 just take baby steps. A timer is your friend too, set it for 5,10 or 15 minutes at a time and get as much decluttering done as you can in that time. It may surprise you how much you can get done in that short amount of time.

So I'm up early today, going lavender picking today in a field with MIL and SIL! I'm looking forward to it, but really wish I could have slept in longer 😴
Must cook DH his eggs before I leave, although I'm currently enjoying my 1st cup of coffee sitting on the couch. I am not rushing about this morning!
I hope to be back on later with some ta das 🍒👋 for everyone

Redsquirrel5 · 02/08/2022 17:37

Hi everyone 🍒👋🍒👋🍒👋🍒
Anyone else still having problems with mumsnet?
Finally able to get on yesterday only to lose the post just as I was posting. Previous week or so it keeps either moving so that I can’t even read the first post to logging me off every time I have just logged on. Grrr!

Thank you Willow for July leading and Hills for stepping up for August.

I will. Quickly update before I lose the post... we found the man, his wife and two gorgeous girls a lovely flat near the school, some shops and walking distance into the city. They moved in on Saturday and are thrilled. I have been decluttering duvet covers and I have lost a pair of curtains I saw which they could have, very frustrating but I have tidied a drawer, cleaned out the airing cupboard and reorganising some of my clothes drawers.
Been very busy as the van is coming on Friday so been washing, drying and packing clothes. Been given some lovely baby blankets and boys clothes. Got two bicycles for two young girls.

😄Welcome newbies.

Hazel loved the photos.

Oh I entered a blooming bravellous event for Hospice at Home last weekend. Plant a bra up with four classes. Some great winners and I got some tips for another year. It was fun. Afternoon tea and a good raffle. I met someone from our village and sat with her and her grandchildren. Hundreds of bras were collected for Against Breast Cancer which will go to Africa.

Right better get my bed made( stripped) and tidy the rest of the room and vacuum. Lots of sorting has been completed.

Hi there
Sneaking in quietly while everyone is resting! My sink is clean. It's the only damn thing in the house that is Confused
I am drowning under a mountain of junk and I make piles but then I feel guilty cos I should be ebaying it and it stays put.
I hate cleaning and tidying. It's overwhelming.
Baby steps right?

reallynow1 · 02/08/2022 22:25

My tada list - have done some firefighting today in the house and at least made it more bearable.
So - hallway cleared of holiday stuff and hoovered
-2 loads of washing done
-living room and kitchen hoovered

  • kitchen mopped.
About to go and shine my sink and then will collapse into bed.

A busy day - but totes worth it.

Baby steps - will keep going with them. I like the getting dressed even your shoes one. I always find if I'm not dressed completely by around 9am my day goes to pot!

WeegieGranny2022 · 03/08/2022 01:03

Stairs and landing are hoovered.

Also front room tidied, toys etc off floor and onto table. Hoovered.

Emptied a storage box into all the right places.

Some books and magazines tidied away; much more to do.
Found school yearbooks for DCs to sort. (Youngest DC is 35.)

Feeling more upbeat about getting this done. Seem to have a rhythm at last. Used a ladder for first time in ages!

Tomorrow - much the same as today, with more podcasts and bbc sounds.

Upsadiddles · 03/08/2022 05:40

Found you all. Better late than never eh.

Thanks for running the July thread Willow, and thanks for the shiny new one Hills, it’s much appreciated. You obviously needed that sleep!

Welcome Runnikub, lothermand, reallynow1 (great start) and Doyathinkhesaurus.

Cracking effort Weegie.

I bet that family really appreciate the help Red. Bra planter sounds fab.

Hazel that is a long old work day, you must be shattered!

So we seem to have survived the first week of the summer holidays. It was enjoyable, but full on, so planning on this one being more chilled. We had some lovely family time and a weekend away, but the house is in chaos - clean clothes everywhere, toys and craft stuff scattered about, a half put away grocery shop, and a larder and fridge that really need organised. I also skipped the homebleurgh so everywhere is a bit grubby, although I have done some ironing and changed the beds. DD1 is heading to DGP’s this morning until tomorrow night, so I have the best part of two days to get the place under control in peace (providing DD2 co-operates. She’s trying to crawl, resisting naps and I fear is morphing from chilled baby to a little tinker). I have however also promised a relative a few hours of help with decluttering at theirs. Hoping to get that out the way this morning.

I‘m wide awake now and debating on getting up and making a start, but worried that will wake MiniUp too early. Might just have to lie here and MN instead…

reallynow1 · 03/08/2022 07:13

Morning all,

I was on it last night and went to bed with a shiny sink a la fly lady. Hurrah.
Today's plan is to get the dishwasher unloaded so that breakfast dishes can go in it rather than sitting on the side all day.
Load of washing onto the line - I read flyladys laundry habit of the month. I aspire to this. Wash, dry, put away.
Bathroom is on my hitlist this morning.

I now just need to get moving so I can have a productive morning!
