Is this ridiculous for a deep clean?

malloo · 22/05/2022 11:01

Had a quote for deep clean of 4 bed house - £630! Plus £40 for oven and £85 for the inside of the windows. Carpets would be £300 on top. Surely this is too much? Never had a cleaner of any sort before so no idea what going rate is. It's not my house - relative who has passed away. House has been extensively decluttered and is not really dirty, I just don't have time to do it and I don't live nearby.

Yes, that's a ridiculous price!

VouisLuitton · 22/05/2022 17:36

😮

Whoatealltheminieggs · 22/05/2022 17:42

I had a similar price quoted. As soon as you mention deep clean or end of tenancy clean the rates go up considerably. You could shop around a bit but I just did it myself as couldn’t justify it

Nidan2Sandan · 22/05/2022 18:37

We paid £320 for a small 2 bed semi so that sounds about right.

Thebeastofsleep · 22/05/2022 20:11

Depends where in the country. Sounds on the high end of normal round here.

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 22/05/2022 20:12

That’s bonkers!

PartyPlan · 22/05/2022 20:17

Ask on the local Facebook page for a one off clean. Local cleaners won’t charge anywhere near as much. I’m in SE, usually £15 or so an hour.

ballsdeep · 22/05/2022 20:19

Crikey i wouldn't oay that!!!!!

Greatoutdoors · 22/05/2022 20:20

Wow! I paid £90 for a deep clean a few weeks ago. It didn’t include the oven and I’d expect to pay extra for that, but everything got pulled out and cleaned under. It was a 5 hour job.

SpeedofaSloth · 22/05/2022 20:25

Seems a lot, but how much work is there to do? Near me the going rate for domestic cleaning is £15 per hour.

viques · 22/05/2022 20:27

Say £15 an hour, at £1000. That is 66 hours or so . Two weeks for one person, one full week for two people! That is a lot of cleaning.

Isaidnoalready · 22/05/2022 20:30

I love end of tenancy cleans no furniture just big open spaces for me to clean

easyday · 22/05/2022 21:00

No I paid about £500 some years ago for a really thorough all day clean (three people). You could have eaten off of any surface when they were done. I'm pretty sure it included carpets but it was over ten years ago.
I've had an end if tenancy clean done in my small two bedroom and it was £300. I complained (they were hired by the managing agent) as I though that was extortionate - the flat was one fifth the size of aforementioned house.

Wishfulthinking1977 · 22/05/2022 21:03

I do deep cleans and yes that's alot!! 4 bed with no clutter takes 3 of us all day but inside windows we expect to do, carpets are included in the quote, don't do ovens as they really need a special company for products. We would probably charge £350 to include all our materials but dependant on travelling! Shop around OP!

Silkierabbit · 23/05/2022 07:48

That seems very expensive to me - not the same but we had a one off clean by 2 cleaners a month ago for 2.5 hours each (stayed 2) and that was £90 and did 3 rooms really thoroughly downstairs bathroom, kitchen and dining room, all needed a good clean as I am doing chemo. So £30 a room and that included windows and carpets really good hoover. It would not include oven or if carpets are stained. Getting them back again and its £135 for 4 hours each so 8 hours and for that doing those rooms again a month later plus 2 kids rooms so similar and c£30 a room for 2 cleaners and good sized rooms. You could maybe phone and ask for one - off cleans, mine was a local agency though Maid2Clean where a similar price.

malloo · 23/05/2022 21:37

Thanks everyone, this is really helpful. Glad it's not just me that thought that was too much! I'm going to try and get some other quotes but not easy - first couple I tried said they were booked for the forseeable future, others just haven't bothered to get back to me. I'm in Central Scotland so not a massively expensive part of the country.

Total try on.

fruitypancake · 23/05/2022 21:49

That's bloody ridiculous

Beecham · 23/05/2022 21:55

I don't think it's outrageous. I paid similar a decade ago for a proper end of tenancy clean. It included deep cleaning light fittings, skirting boards, tops of cupboards, insides and backs of cupboards - everything. It is more than a dust, wipe and hoover type clean.

Also, where I live, cleaners are in high demand so can charge whatever they like really!

Silkierabbit · 23/05/2022 23:01

Our one off clean was not the same as end of tenancy clean but it included a spotless hoover everywhere (but not stains) but we have hay from rabbits so needed a really good hoover and got it, all windows done inside very well, ceilings, skirting boards, doors, tops and sides of cupboards but not inside them. Our cleaner would charge far less than you have been quoted for that, maybe something like £420 if you need carpets thoroughly hoover, beds and inside every cupboard. That would not include oven and do not know what would charge for that, but would include all windows, maybe they would charge £40 or so for oven. Would definitely get more quotes. If its just being done for sale when we did that we just got a cleaner for a one off clean for 5 hours and was £90 but depends on the state of it, that was enough to sell it for us but we had done a pre clean but was a 4 bed house but only kitchen had fitted cupboards. All the carpets and flooring where replaced so that was a very quick once over and rooms had been repainted so not realistic for a house needing more but people may not open cupboards if selling. Depends how bad things are.

Silkierabbit · 23/05/2022 23:03

Not sure why it says beds but have chemo brain.

nokitchen · 24/05/2022 13:33

I just paid £400 for a deep clean of a totally filthy 3 bed bungalow

lurchermummy · 24/05/2022 15:32

Yes even at £20 an hour that's a lot. It's worth saying you'll probably get it back because it will definitely increase the sale value to have it left clean, but I'd consider getting some other quotes.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 25/05/2022 01:39

Not a bad price. A 40 room hospital floor was charged at three cleaners for four days at £10k. No furniture to be moved, just a clean up after painters had been in. !

butimjayigetaway · 27/05/2022 21:10

They charge for the amount of people and what needs doing. Did someone come round to price up?

Someone came round and prescribed me how many hours, then charged me per hour per cleaner. I had four hours, two cleaners, £100. Not a deep clean but cleaning all woodwork, doors, sides, floors, but not moving any furniture.
