Cleaner left the hub on

leonardo871 · 19/05/2022 19:45

Cleaners were in this morning and today I got in from work to see the gas hob where they were cleaning was left on at very low.

Thankfully I noticed and turned it off.

It was definately not me as I have not used gas hob for cooking for a week or so.

Is there anything more I need to do as it has been potentially left running for 8-10 hours?

I have been with these same cleaning company for 2 years and no issues like this before.

What would you do? Maybe ask them to check next time it’s off 🤷‍♀️

ValentinaLuna · 19/05/2022 19:47

Probably turned it whilst wiping
open some windows for sure!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/05/2022 19:48

dont flick any switches

leonardo871 · 19/05/2022 19:49

It was on - as in the flame was going 🔥 on low - not just the gas.

Well if the flame was on then you dont have to worry about gas build up.

Wonder why they had the hob on though, i would understand if it was just the gas, as although its more dangerous its probably easier to do in error, but on mine anyway, you have to actively push turn and click to ignite the gas...

Its quite sensitive. They might have pressed by accident.

Obviously open all doors/windows.
Don't turn on /off any switches

& obviously don't light anything!!

im a bit of a Nelly so I might knock the neighbours too.

later on I'd email the cleaning company.

I switch mine off at the wall.

LittleBearPad · 19/05/2022 19:53

If there was a flame then there’s no issue with gas.

leonardo871 · 19/05/2022 19:54

My cleaners are so sweet - I do not want to upset them by sending a message to let them know.

I should maybe just leave it?

HeddaGarbled · 19/05/2022 19:54

I’d not do anything this time. If it ever happens again, I’d ask them to check it’s off in future.

You would knock on the neighbours to tell them you had the hob on for a while...? Op has stated the flame was on, theres no gas build up.

Daftasabroom · 19/05/2022 19:55

Get an induction hob.

Mrsjayy · 19/05/2022 19:57

Just open your windows /back door for half an hour let fumes our and say to them it was switched on by accident so they are aware.

Bedsheets4knickers · 19/05/2022 19:57

I'd leave a gentle note just to say it's happened and that you understand it was a mistake , no harm done but please check after cleaning as it's super sensitive..,
You sound like a lovely employer by the way so don't stress about mentioning it x

What's the problem with just reminding them to check the hobs are all turned off safely? Why would that "upset" them?

Popsicle33 · 19/05/2022 19:59

If it's been on a while it'll run your bill up! I'd be fucking furious. It's potentially very dangerous. You might not have noticed and burnt yourself.

Soulstirring · 19/05/2022 19:59

Mention it politely, appreciate it was an accident but you want to let them know. I don’t know what else you’re hoping people would suggest.

Yes 😂
It is going to cost a fortune. Hob running for several hours.

Bet you're cosy though, silver linings and all that...

Northernsoullover · 19/05/2022 20:08

If you don't want to cause upset I might say something like I noticed the other day when I was cleaning the hob I knocked it on. Can you double check it doesn't happen to you.. I never knew it was so sensitive

Clymene · 19/05/2022 20:12

8-10 hours? What time do your cleaners come? When do you get home from work?

A very low gas flame will cost absolute pennies to run, even now. I can send you 20p in the post.

They will come at about 9 and I get home from work 7pm. I can give you my cashapp for transfer.

I hate induction hobs.

Inklingpot · 19/05/2022 20:20

Christ alive. It was clearly accidental and you’ve even said it never happened before.

Gas hobs have a thermocouple so gas will not continue coming out if it’s not lit. Your house won’t blow up, you won’t get a huge bill and you can just move on and get over it.
