Cleaner left the hub on

Cleaners were in this morning and today I got in from work to see the gas hob where they were cleaning was left on at very low.

Thankfully I noticed and turned it off.

It was definately not me as I have not used gas hob for cooking for a week or so.

Is there anything more I need to do as it has been potentially left running for 8-10 hours?

I have been with these same cleaning company for 2 years and no issues like this before.

@Dauncets Thank you for your advice but I hope not to have the chance to put it to use. Thank heavens I haven't got a gas stove right now because I stopped smoking years ago and started again a few weeks ago (shame on me!). With all the things going through my mind at the moment, chances are I would end up bald!

My parents have a cleaner/carer who is wonderful and actually fulfils both roles for them. She cooked them lunch one day and I then spent ages trying to switch on the hob until she informed me her agency insist on them switching off all hobs at the wall.Possibly no use for a gas hob but I've started to do the same at home and I never have that 'Did I switch the hob off ' moment any more.

Wells shockwaves hair mousse+ gas wasn't a good combination either lol. And I did it more than once!

What is a splink?

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 20/05/2022 01:15

Might be a regional name for it. We always had a tub (old cat food tin) of them by the cooker and the fireplace. Used for lighting them and for lighting cigarettes from the hob/fire.
take a large square of newspaper and roll corner to corner on the diagonal. So that one end is open and fatter than the other thin pointy end. Put a bend in the thin end about one and half inches from the tip. This is the bit you set fire too. Proper newspaper is best, or comics, not shinny Sunday magazine paper!
Dh says he’s known them as spelks - which is what we called splinters in my day!
hope the photo explains it better!

In the kitchen we put them out by dropping them in the kitchen sink and dropped a used tea bag on them!

Ah God, my old pa showed me how to make them years ago when he used to burn garden rubbish. I can't remember what he called them! We didn't have them by the cooker - we had an actual posh gaslighter whatwhat.

🤣🤣🤣. I love my gas lighter !

This unlocked a memory of my sisters and I rolling these up for my mum at the coal fire! I had forgotten all about these. I am not sure what we called them.

Is part of their job to clean the hob? Does it even need cleaning if you haven't used it for a week?

I'd suspect that the cleaner had lost her lighter and quickly lit a fag on the hob then rushed outside to smoke it.

Do they smoke?

They do smoke 🤣 who needs the CIA when you have MN!

They could have lit a fag off it and ran out yes.
