Re doing bathroom- what should I go for that is easy to clean??

I hate cleaning, I also don’t have the time for it and I’m not good at it. I’m having a brand new bathroom put in and I’m trying to decide what to go for that will make it easy and quick to clean. Hubby keen for fully tiled walls and floor (thinking dark grouting). How can I design it so it’s easy to keep clean? I’m thinking a built in bathtub will be easier to keep clean than a freestanding tub? Any suggestions? :)

Wall mounted toilet and furniture.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 02/04/2022 14:59

The biggest tiles you can find - less grout to clean!

SkiingIsHeaven · 02/04/2022 15:00

Wall hung sink and toilet. Dark coloured grout on big tiles.

This. We've gone for this and it has improved my life no end.

Waterproof panels instead of tiles. We had them installed 18 months ago and I just don’t understand why anyone uses tiles now.
So easy to wipe clean.

Thecatisboss · 02/04/2022 15:05

We're just having bathroom redone and have had shower panels put in as they are far easier to keep clean (PIL have them already)

This is exactly what k would suggest, this has saved me so much time cleaning and regrouting and they always look clean unlike grout when it's needing replaced
SmallestInTheClass · 02/04/2022 15:10

Second vote for big tiles, we have small ones and cleaning the grout is a nightmare. Some tiles look better with grey rather than white grout which is also good.

MissyB1 · 02/04/2022 15:12

When e do ours we will go for panels instead of tiles.

IceVolcanoes · 02/04/2022 15:14

Get a sink that doesn’t have loads of stupid moulded details (where water gathers). It amazes me how poorly designed many bathroom sinks are. So hard to keep clean.

SkiingIsHeaven · 02/04/2022 15:36

Or get a very Mumsnetty cleaner.

ANUsernam · 02/04/2022 15:40

Do NOT get a flat bottomed (square/rectangular) shaped sink, they're so much more effort to keep clean because the water doesn't drain properly without a gradient to the plug hole.

MrsWeasely · 02/04/2022 17:00

Amazing! Thank you, I’ve noted everything. It’s good to here what doesn’t work as well as what does!

Panels instead of tiles
No sinks with corners

This.. I hate ours.

Don’t tile the floor - you want something smooth so it is easy to wipe and don’t want grouting that you have to scrub. I have a wood effect laminate like karndean (I forget what mine is called!). So much easier to clean.

Storage if you can so that you can put things away so it isn’t cluttered - easier to clean. Also so you can keep cleaning stuff in the room. You are more likely to do little and often if it is not a bother to access stuff.

Pay close attention to the design of shower screens - do they have nooks and crannies that will be impossible to get to.

ImAvingOops · 02/04/2022 18:18

Can panels be attached over tiles? My bathroom desperately needs redoing but I am scared of the mess and hassle of taking tiles off the wall.

Second this. So easy to keep clean.

fizzyfood · 03/04/2022 17:05

Dark grout

ohdrearydrearyme · 05/04/2022 07:24

Choose flooring that's the same color as the dust that you already get in your bathroom. Even if you clean the floor often it's so much better than having flooring that shows every speck of dust and dirt.
You can also get toilets where the bowl shape on the inside is easier to clean. There is no overhanging rim that you have to clean under.

user1471505356 · 06/04/2022 08:50

We have a pod type shower less problem with leaks easy to clean.

worriedatthistime · 06/04/2022 09:20

Aqua panels instead of tiles ?

worriedatthistime · 06/04/2022 09:22

Vynl floor may be easier to clean than tiles but all depends if you like vynl and has to be suitable for bathroom use

chesterelly1 · 06/04/2022 09:31

If you are getting a wall hung toilet, check how sloppy it is. I hate ours as they angle in quite sharply creating what is basically a poo-catching shelf. Never had to clean so much poo of a loo with toilets that went to the floor

chesterelly1 · 06/04/2022 09:31

Sloping not sloppy
