Morning and happy new year FLYers.
Welcome FLYbabies.

I am going to carry on where i left off in kitchen/dining table area. not much more to do really.

Kids are on wii and one will be on PC when i get off it! lol!

I will shine my sink 1st. Have a good day.

ludaloo · 01/01/2008 11:28

Well....I do babysteps, but I can't just do my sink, as the place is a tip, and I can't do supper tonight if I don't do more than just my sink...

I would say...do what needs doing but do your sink really well

ludaloo · 01/01/2008 11:29

Hi tort

FunkyGlassSlipper · 01/01/2008 11:30

Lewis - I found the babysteps really worth it as it helped me build habits slowly and habits are then hard to break. However perhaps you could do ONE 15 min burst somewheer each day as well as the babysteps if it is going too slow for you.

I havent done anything except take the decorations down. DD1 is playing Happy Families with DH, DD2 is climbing on the hoover and I have been buying things in the Debenhams sale online

Lazylou · 01/01/2008 11:51

Hello, I too fell off the Fly wagon so am pleased to see this thread and shall be making a concerted effort to keep on top of the housework! It really fell apart for me when I started working full time and coping with uni made cleaning the last thing on my mind. I am now off work and raring to go in preparation for the arrival of DC2 in May.

However, saying that, I am going to have a day off today as we have family visiting at my parents so DH is at work, and DD and I are going round to be sociable .

I am strangely looking forward to getting back to it tomorrow so am going to check up now on the things I might need for sink shining etc and make sure I'm stocked up enough to begin. This is my biggest resolution and one that I intend to stick to. I think half the problem is that DD and I do not have a routine since I finished work and we are not getting up until 10.30, by which time its a bit late to start doing things. So the second of my resolutions is to get us both back into a routine, making sure we are up nice and early to tackle the jobs in the morning before doing 'nice' things later in the day.

Hope everyone had a great night last night and just want to wish everyone a very happy new year!

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 01/01/2008 12:11

Shine my sink? can mange that (assuming I can get to it past the washing piled on the floor )

Going to try and make this ny resolution I think, have dread of MW turning up to a homebirth in 3 months and place being a tip..... or having to clear up with contractions

Alambil · 01/01/2008 12:23

actually, I've just sat and read each step and the gumph that goes with it and it makes perfect sense - and seems so "do-able".

I will just ignore my mother's jibes and think that in a month or so, this house is going to be brilliantly run and it will stay like that forever.

I have a million folders and papers and stuff too because of just finishing uni so will use one of them and do it the correct way!

I am so glad it is just me and DS here... I wonder if I can stop my mother visiting for the month!

DontDreamItBeIt · 01/01/2008 12:40

I didn't do the babysteps when I first started, but vaguely suck to the zones and picked up the rest.
I did babysteps properly a few months ago, and it really heped to set up a routine. Even when things fall apart, I know what to do and soon pick up again.
I'd do what you need o today o keep from downing under washing/ new toys/ mess, but also shine the sink.
It does seem really slow to start wih bu if you stick wih i it does work.

I've thought about resolutions and am sticking with
1 - be a less shouty mum
but am going to add
2 - read ds a bedtime story every night.
I'm goin to add it to my routines so I will have a daily reminder.

I think i must of had blinkers on when i was in the kitchen this morn!
Did i say there wasn't much to do? How wrong was i! There was stuff everywhere! Last nights dinner plates (still with uneaten food on) and load of washing up to go in the dw. Plus washing for wm and wet stuff for TD as well as a pile of clean stuff to go away!

WM, TD and DW are on and work top is clear.
Clean clothes are on my bed, ready to put away (or probably end up on my floor with the rest!)

Dining table has been cleared of the playdough mess from yesterday and floor has been wiped under the table.

I need to make kids some lunch now! Great, that will make more mess lol!

I think i need to have a read up on baby steps etc. I need this to work this time!

Grouchyoscar · 01/01/2008 13:06

I've started my control journal!!!!

Thing is I do stuff as and when and it's difficult to nail it down to a specific time etc

Ah well, it will work out in the end

glitterfairy · 01/01/2008 13:46

Happy New year everyone and all my fave flyers sorry I have been away so long but from now on I will come on here at least once a day. In particular hello tort, luda grouchyoscar and funkyglassslipper

Having been ill this christmas I have let things go. Typical to take time off work and get ill. So far today I have:

Cleaned my fridge
Sorted some washing and got next load ready
Emptied dd's drawers and taking clothes to clothing bank
Bought new duvet and covers in sale

Just about to go round to my dads and upgrade his virus protection and then do a shop for the week. Amongst my shop I am buying cleaner for my oven as I cant stand it any longer.

I am also going to do the baby steps and start today with a shiny sink.

Alambil · 01/01/2008 13:46

I've just stripped mine and DS beds - they are washing.

The wet washing is on the airer.

The dry stuff is folded on the sofa = hotspot alert! That will be taken up in shifts as I go upstairs (and be put away!)

The cat has just climbed on top of the fridge and made a plaque fall off (that I forgot was on there!) so now need to see if I can get some superglue...grr

I am waiting for the bedding to wash and then will take it to my parent's and borrow their TD!

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 01/01/2008 13:49

Hello GF Good to see you back. Sorry you have been ill.

Well done GO and Lewis

I have ruined my healthy start already. Egg and bacon sarnie for lunch

Skipsmum · 01/01/2008 13:54

I fell off the flywagon last year, not sure when- it just gradually happened. But I'm determined today. I have swished my toilet and started the washing. I WILL shine my sink....

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 01/01/2008 14:29

I have kicked the kids outside lol! Its not too cold so they are on the trampoline. They have hardly been out this week.

Christmas decs in kitchen and Christmas tablecloth removed.
Have decided the kitchen needs a re-paint this year (sometime!)

Will get back to it now!

Alambil · 01/01/2008 14:44

I have just done baby-step 1... am very proud (ie - my sink is shiny!)

Will do the other stuff (washing up) tonight because I can't leave ds and the kitten in the same room - he terrorises her so will do it when he's in bed (bloody kid!)

Now... just waiting for the washing to finish and having a few mins to sit down

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 01/01/2008 14:55

Well done Lewis
I just stopped for a quick drink, and i am drinking water,

Happy with my progress so far. Am probably doing more than FLY woman would agree with but i am de-cluttering!

Must get back to it in a mo. Feeling very congested again. Wish this cold would bog off!

MrsWeasleysmagicmincepies · 01/01/2008 15:00

ok I did my sink, I retired to play with DCs, Went to make a coffee DH has been in kitchen for 15 minutes and now sink no longer shines, well it might be shiny under all the mud!

Once I have washed DH'd blood away I will shine sink again.

Alambil · 01/01/2008 15:05

GRR @ DH making the sink manky again - make sure you wash your hands too

FunkyGlassSlipper · 01/01/2008 15:32

Lol. I had forgotten how obsessive everyone gets when their sink is shiny

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 01/01/2008 15:42

My sink is a little bit shiny! I haven't got any good cleaner lol!

My head hurts. Tabs not helping to decongest me!

I think i have done enough for now. Will need to think about tea very soon.

Anyone want a bag of those scoubidou things? Have some on the for free topic if your interested.

webchick · 01/01/2008 15:56

Happy New Year everyone - this is my first FLY post although I have lurked for a while now...took my Christmas decorations down this afternoon and they are all packed away in the loft for another year. So now I have clear space in the living room with no Christmas cards etc hanging about, oh so nice now! Off to shine my sink now and sort out my tupperware box - its overflowing with stuff.

webchick · 01/01/2008 15:58

ps I am building up momentum to shampoo my carpets tomorrow and prepare the bathroon for painting ASAP.

ATortIsForLifeNotJustChristmas · 01/01/2008 15:59

Hi and welcome webchick. I will be taking my decs down soon. possibly tomorrow!

beautifulsnowydays · 01/01/2008 16:20

hi everyone

i tried and failed at fly lady in 2007 so am determined to do it properly this time. i tried to do it all at once, so am just going to stick to the baby steps this time

going to go cook the dinner, make dh wash up and then will shine my sink

i'm sure i've got a packet of shiny sink wipes at the back of the cupboard, from my last fly lady attempt! so no excuses!

happy new year everyone
