Anyone got a teasmade/tea/coffee maker on their bedside table?

I’m after a teasmade but I can only find one type which is the Swan make and the reviews aren’t great.
I’ve tried using our tassimo machine but the water doesn’t get hot enough to brew the tea properly. I like HOT tea - not luke warm!
Does anyone have a teasmade? Does it make it hot enough? Or any other solutions (don’t suggest I get my arse out of bed and make it myself!)

Set up a little tea making station in your bedroom - mini electric jug, cup, tea bags, etc?

Sage a good brand - this has a timer but is pricey

Genuinely curious as never heard anyone having one in their bedroom.

How come you need one there and not in the kitchen? Wouldn't you just make a cuppa and take it back to your bed?

Definitely this! A travel kettle, mug, individual UHT milk. Like in a hotel room!

My parents had a teas-made for years. It worked fine but a small kettle would do much better I think.

GiveYourHeadAWobble · 05/01/2022 00:29

We’ve got the Swan with and it boils the water so it’s hot enough!
It’s bulky and not very attractive though. I agree that a mini kettle is probably a better bet.

PlanktonsComputerWife · 05/01/2022 00:31

I tried a kettle in my bedroom but I was worried about the steam causing damp. It's a bit dangerous to wrangle boiling water while sitting up in bed, too.

Now I have a thing called a husband that makes the coffee.

DoTheyKnowItsLemonJuice · 05/01/2022 00:32

Hmm, interesting. I don’t think I know anyone who has this.

I do like drinking tea in bed but wouldn’t want all the tea-making paraphernalia right there beside me. It would feel cluttered and that would bother me.

My kitchen is freezing. That's why.

Doesn't a teasmade make an unearthly racket though?

EverNapping · 05/01/2022 00:39

One of my parents has one, well two, there's a back up in case one needs to go off for repair. I'm told it does an excellent job. The water certainly seems to come out at boiling point.

endoflevelbaddy · 05/01/2022 00:44

I'm with the PP, I thought this was why we got married and had children. I no longer make tea, there's usually someone up before me Wink

A bit, enough to wake the person using it certainly. My parents room is across the hall and theirs has never woken me up.

This is exactly what we have - I bought a travel kettle and some uht milk cartons in a little pot. It's better than a teasmaid because we can use full size mugs!
WandaWomblesaurus73 · 05/01/2022 00:52

For a while I had a flask with hot tea or coffee in that I would wake up to and I would add the little uht to it in the morning.

RoyKentsChestHair · 05/01/2022 00:53

I had a spare kettle so made a little hotel style tea station in my room. Bought those little ‘tubes’ of milk that don’t taste all UHT-y but the problems was that I always forgot one thing - either a cup, or a teaspoon, or forgot to fill the kettle so still had to get up and fill it up in the bathroom, so it wasn’t a lot easier than just making one downstairs and snuggling up on the sofa with it tbh. Was a nice idea but didn’t last long.

WandaWomblesaurus73 · 05/01/2022 00:53

[quote NinaDefoe]I’ve just ordered a tiny kettle thanks to this thread!
I want the very small 0.8l SMEG one but it’s over £100.
Bought this instead!

That's gorgeous! I've ended up using a small kettle in the kitchen too as I've got rsi in my wrists and the lighter weight is much nicer!

PullingAtTeeth · 05/01/2022 04:04

For those of you that have a husband to get up before you and make you a hot cup of tea…
Please could you advise me where to find an excellent quality one?
I do have an old one but I’ve had him a long time, he’s certainly out of the warranty period anyway. In the early days I was sometimes able to get a hot drink out of him first thing in a morning but I think some of the mechanics have seized inside now and even with much poking, shaking and sometimes a good kick the husband simply rolls over and goes back to sleep.

My nan and grandad had one. It would have been easier for them to walk to the kitchen than all the rigmarole of setting it up every evening.

Marmelace · 05/01/2022 04:12

I use a hot flask instead

sashh · 05/01/2022 04:36

My parents had one, it would wake me (in the next room) but not them.

They woke up to a room full of smoke one morning and I became the dedicated tea maker.

I'd go for a mini kettle, I stayed at a relatives and they had a shelf in their guest bedroom with a mini kettle, mug etc.

I have a tassimo in my 'spare' bedroom, but I use that as an office most of the time, it has a bed for guests. But my dad is scared of it, the tassimo, not the bed.

I do have a jug of water, with a lid next to the bed which would solve the forgetting to fill the kettle problem. The jug has a lid because the cat prefers to drink water from a glass but also stops any spiders drowning.

Monty27 · 05/01/2022 04:40

@pullingAtTeeth I sent mine back to the manufacturer

WoodenReindeer · 05/01/2022 05:29

My mum had a teasmade and it was a common thing around their friends. I never quite worked out if the milk was just fine overnight.

I would love one. Or a kettle station. But I'd need more space in my room!

I really would like a tea tap...

FlosCampi · 05/01/2022 06:24

I have a smart plug on the kettle in the kitchen, so i can ask google to put the kettle on while I slug in bed, so less time in the cold kitchen if you just nip down once it's boiled!
