Pumpkin spice and ghost abound, fledglings flying through the crazy

Right for this seasonal thread of the Fledgings, I invite you to pull up a comfy chair around the fire pit and pour yourself a mug of something that you fancy.

We loosely follow the flylady system and her babysteps. But we have our own spin, our own abbreviations and have been around for far longer than some of us would like to admit. If you are new to these parts welcome in, we'll get you up to speed in no time. But we have rules, yes rules!

Rule 1: No fledgling left behind.
life happens. If you fall off the thread, jump back when you are ready.

Rule 2: If you wouldn't say it to someone else, don't say it to yourself
Be kind to yourself, the world is still crazy, and life happens. Just do what you can, when you can.

Right that's the rules now for the fun part. Acronyms and autocorrects!
Amongst others (and there are others but we'll have to explain as we go along)
It's all gone a bit ponty pridd - tits up, pete tong, wrong etc etc we get to thank auto correct for this
WOW wash out Wednesday - humps days often don't go to plan and get washed out
LOL round these parts it is load of laundry

Urm... Yeah about that fire pit and comfy chair... Dibs on the big floofy one with fluffy blankies... Last one in brings the marshmallows!

Hi languagelover. Is that tidy the wine cupboard? Hide in it? Drink it dry? 😂

YupIFreakilyHave · 30/09/2021 11:05

Morning everyone. I haven't quite caught up with the thread but will try to do it later.

Ta-da
✅Calm morning routine
✅Set off Boosty downstairs
✅Took DS to have blood test. His sensory issues around pain was a bit stressful for him, me and the phlebotomist. Anyway it's done.
✅Got him into school on time as well
✅Fruit and veg shop
✅Breakfast washing up done
✅LoL in
✅Bin emptied and cleaned

To-do
TLC of Boosty
Put clothes on heated airer thingy
Visit parents
Think about what to make for dinner for me and what beige food to heat up for DS
Try for a nap this afternoon as I'm exhausted from lack of sleep

I've had to put the heating on as it's so cold. Sad Am a bit worried about the price hikes as at the moment we are on standard variable tariff because my electric meter is not working properly and energy company have said we can't go on a fixed tariff because they need to know how much energy we use with the new meter in place so that they can get an idea of which fixed tariff is best for us. I said I still wanted to go on a fixed tariff but they have refused and I've not had a date for the new meter installation either.

I'm not sure all that made sense. Anyway, off to parents.

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/09/2021 11:14

Can you set yourself a lower goal eg I will do 2 per week, with stretch goal of 4 per week and overachiever goal of all of them? The all or nothing mentality is hard, but if you can achieve a goal it might help?

I am feeling lost and bouncing around the house doing random things but not really accomplishing anything. I need to get onto applying for new jobs asap but today my brain is not in it so i am just doing a bit here and a bit there.

Oh, I meant to say, I'm thinking of my own challenge for October scream. I was thinking of doing a minimalism challenge so on the 1st I get rid of one thing and on the 2nd I get rid of 2 things and so on. I should be able to be more than 450+ items lighter. You'll have to do the exact maths for me Grin.

I might even start my own thread. Maybe.

THOSEcobwebsareDECOR · 30/09/2021 11:16

Yup i love that idea!

AbandonAllHalfHope · 30/09/2021 11:39

😁 ah yes you are quite right willow - the ironing remains uneaten but it was been done and away. No white shirt fricassee for us 👔

AbandonAllHalfHope · 30/09/2021 11:41

Yup - I've been on a standard tarriff for a while as it's worked out cheaper here than the fix in the end. I'd say all the good fixed deals are gone. I'm just going to watch energy consumption and cut back that way.

THOSEcobwebsareDECOR · 30/09/2021 11:45

I did just get a 12 month fixed tariff which meant an increase of £30 a month but it was by far the best option for us, other tariffs were over 1k more!

AbandonAllHalfHope · 30/09/2021 11:52

Well done those. It is nippy up here now. Foul weather today 💨🍃

ScreamToTheSky · 30/09/2021 11:52

That’s a good idea hills I have been doing well in other aspects of life with my thinking but this will be a challenge. Even if I don’t do them all it will be good to get drawing again! 🥰

Yup I love that idea too!

I didn’t do the room rescuing as we agreed to meet in the park. Nice to have fresh air and chat and not worry about the house 🤣 just got back and also glad I bought a sandwich in tesco as my plan now is to just sit for a while.

Welcome language!

IWillWoooTheGhoulWillow · 30/09/2021 13:07

Ugh. Global Britain had arrived in the South East with a powercut all across the town I needed to visit. Sainsbury's took 6 times as long as expected due to closed tills, fridges and freezers and only backup lighting. This was apparently due to a "National Grid outage", which bothers me.

Ta da:
💚 A few groceries and a jumper for DS3
💙 Patch test

Ta didn't:
☔ Cards and vouchers. I was so tired I just came home.

ScreamToTheSky · 30/09/2021 15:33

Ugh fun times willow 😩

Spectacularly unmotivated this afternoon, have achieved nothing but sitting and supervising a bit of work with DS since getting home. Oh and I finished reading the September Thread.

I like your power of 3 jobs Scream. I organised which day I will do a food shop and meal plan from now on. Should I add Miners' Lamp hat to a shopping list should there be black outs while shopping? It's ridiculous isn't it Willow? With this level of ineptitude it's going to be a hit and miss Christmas. Between fuel bills/lack of fuel and transport issues etc I'm going for a make do Christmas.

I did manage to get my flu jab as did dh.

*need to take up two pairs of trousers
*read a book on stoicism
*arrange Parent-teacher meeting appointment.

AbandonAllHalfHope · 30/09/2021 15:57

*I am formally adding self care onto my list for tonight

YupIFreakilyHave · 30/09/2021 16:26

willow that is worrying. I hope it's just a one off. Will get some emergency candles in, I think. Fingers crossed it's a mild winter.

hope when did you book your flu jab? We're on a waiting list as there's a national shortage apparently.

Does anyone know if 13 year olds can get the spray flu vaccine rather than the jab? It would help with my his stress levels.

scream you're always so busy and you've been ill so it's probably your body saying take it easy.

I went round to parents. They made lunch for me which was sweet. Whilst was there mum got a large package delivered with her name and address on the package. She was like I'm not opening it as I've not ordered anything. I opened it and it was a delivery from Boden. The order note was for a completely different person and it was worth £300. I phoned Boden and they said a courier would come and collect the package. The weird thing is my mum has never ordered anything from Boden so it's a mystery how they got her name. (I've never bought anything from them either). Bizarre. And that poor woman still waiting for her package. Anyone less scrupulous and it would have disappeared forever. Mind you, I was tempted to keep the harem pants Grin

AbandonAllHalfHope · 30/09/2021 16:31

I booked two days' ago Yup. I was meant to get an over 50s call but just went ahead with a private ASDA vaccine as the NHS jab might be much later in the winter and I usually get done in October. I'm in Aberdeen.

AbandonAllHalfHope · 30/09/2021 16:32

yup in Scotland my 12 yr old is having his nasal vaccine in late October.

Not heard for DS yet as not in school but last year he had it via the school nurse service. Not heard for 3yo either but DD1 (year 10) is having hers in school in November.

I’ve done ten small tasks on my tutoring list. I’m stopping now!

Mother Nature has a lovely way of making you reproduce by making you forget the sleep deprivation in the early days doesn’t she?😂. I don’t remember being this tired after the others were born but she’s so worth it. I’m feeling okay, I made some padsicles before going into labour and they’ve been a life saver.

Ah thank you scream☺️. I hope Cagletini is okay and it isn’t a regular thing for her to be left out❤️

those I’m quite impressed with him for being able to do it and stay calm. He has asked me whether he’d be allowed to put midwife on his CV😂. I’m so sorry about the periods, that sounds like hell. I hope things settle down soon💐

hope I’ve forgotten how lovely newborn cuddles are. She smells incredible too I wish I could bottle it.

willow thank you😊. I haven’t had to lift a finger, DH has been brilliant. I’m sure the story of his midwife skills will be told at every birthday, graduation, wedding etc. Poor girl😂. The power cut is really worrying, I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a mild winter ❄️

yup the person who ordered that parcel is very lucky it got sent to your DM, I can’t think many people would give that back. Very weird that it got sent to your mum though!.

We had a few family members visit today. Only 2 sets of great grandparents and an auntie and uncle left to meet her out of our close family. Hopefully that’ll be done tomorrow so then we can have some time on our own as a family.

Im going to try and get some sleep. Goodnight all!

merryhouse · 30/09/2021 20:51

Am sitting in MIL's lounge being Officially Bereft.

S2 got given totally the wrong key to start with but managed to get into his room on the second attempt. Unfortunately he appears to have been given the conference key because he couldn't access the kitchen...

S1 disclosed that - being back in the room he had Before All This - he has been reunited with some yellow-sticker prawns he put in the freezer in March 2020 Grin He and H reckon they should be fine.

Took them to wetherspoons for lunch (lovely setting of old cinema, nice beer, food a bit meh as well as half the stuff being out of stock). Left them with flapjack and butter tablet.

He's not brought his soft tuba case - deliberate but may be regretting it after carrying; passport - oversight but probably won't need it; and mouse mat - annoying.

They've got ringing practice tonight so that will be a good start.

We, meanwhile, are primarily concerned with whether we'll be able to get any petrol by Sunday.

GoingGoingGoth · 30/09/2021 21:30

OMG page 4 already!

And I was feeling quite smug over the amount I’d done until I saw Famous Ta-dah.
Congratulations lovely, what a beautiful little girl

Mc3209 · 30/09/2021 21:48

Famous sleep deprivation can be brutal. Hope you manage to get some sleep.

Ta das:
🌟Morning routine
🌟Evening routine
🌟LOL X2
🌟Almost a week worth of clean laundry pit away 😬
🌟Meal plan done

Living room is looking alright actually. View done most of the stuff on the list, but didn't shampoo the carpets.

YupIFreakilyHave · 30/09/2021 22:30

merry Thanks

famous it's been ages since I held a newborn. You couldn't put her in the naughty corner, could you, while she is napping?

scream do different children go in on different days? Perhaps some of today's lot aren't ready to play with other children yet?

I started my thread but I'm already regretting it. I should have put it in the other minimalism thread. Doh!

I had a lovely evening with DS. We are missing DP so spending more time together.
