Right for this seasonal thread of the Fledgings, I invite you to pull up a comfy chair around the fire pit and pour yourself a mug of something that you fancy.

We loosely follow the flylady system and her babysteps. But we have our own spin, our own abbreviations and have been around for far longer than some of us would like to admit. If you are new to these parts welcome in, we'll get you up to speed in no time. But we have rules, yes rules!

Rule 1: No fledgling left behind.
life happens. If you fall off the thread, jump back when you are ready.

Rule 2: If you wouldn't say it to someone else, don't say it to yourself
Be kind to yourself, the world is still crazy, and life happens. Just do what you can, when you can.

Right that's the rules now for the fun part. Acronyms and autocorrects!
Amongst others (and there are others but we'll have to explain as we go along)
It's all gone a bit ponty pridd - tits up, pete tong, wrong etc etc we get to thank auto correct for this
WOW wash out Wednesday - humps days often don't go to plan and get washed out
LOL round these parts it is load of laundry

Urm... Yeah about that fire pit and comfy chair... Dibs on the big floofy one with fluffy blankies... Last one in brings the marshmallows!

It can’t be settling into nursery time already mc Shock. Where has that time gone?! It’s hard at first but it does get easier. DD sometimes used to cry when I left for the first few months but was always fine within minutes, and she used to love the staff and all the activities.

Hope all poorly DC and fledglings are feeling better soon Flowers

Nothing much to report here, but it’s my last day at work before a week off for half term. Hurrah!

Mc3209 · 22/10/2021 08:23

Up I cannot quite believe it myself. I blinked and a year is gone. Nursery is great with wonderful staff, we just need to get through 'why is mummy leaving me here?!' phase.
Hope your last day before the holidays flies by!

Mc3209 · 22/10/2021 08:28

Hills wow. I might do this too. I'm fed up of scraping algae off the glass every week. Will need to get additional HOB filter for goldfishes then as they currently have an external cannister. I have a feeling they will demolish the roots of left to just grow in water.

Dancingtomusic · 22/10/2021 09:35

Mc- I cant believe its nursery time for babyThat!!
I can say from working in the nursery it was 10mins the child felt unsure about them they spotted something they wanted to play with - then you would have never guessed they had cried that morning.
There will be a point when they wander in and dont look back and i thought- i gave birth to you, are you goung to say bye- then i came to my senses and was happy my dc were happy going to nursery. The staff were fab and it helped alot. My dc still ask to go back there!

Hills- i bet your plants are beautiful!

Yup- hope you are feeling better. Can we have a Austrian spa in the naughty corner?

Hope everyone that was feeling ill is feeling a bit better today. Hot water, honey and lemon and fresh gingers are in constant supply in the naughty corner.

I have a rare chance to go ikea. I asked my superdbro if he would drive me which was very kind of him. Just found out i have got to spend the journey in arkward silence with dbro partner....🙄🤦‍♀️. Part of me wishes i never asked. Dsis will be joining us so I will stay postive and friendly as per usual.
Maybe I might just pretend to sleep in the car.
Cant wait to go see a childrens table that has extending legs that grows height wise. My lil dd loves writing, colouring and drawing - it might help stuff stay on the table and not on my sitting room floor.

Is there anything that you get from ikea that you think is fab?

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/10/2021 09:42

Ivar bookcases. pricey but takes a lot of weight. So much better than the billy bookcases that are not able to handle the weight of hefty books.

My legs are protesting at me today. which is a problem as i have 4 miles of walking that needs to be done for daily life stuffs today. IF i can find the important pieces of paper Hmm

Hills I love devil’s ivy. We bought a reduced price sad looking leaf from a local cafe and now it’s taking over over the kitchen

Willow these are my dragonscale wrist warmers I do them in a range of colours. They’re easier to do than they look, it’s all trebles and chains.

Classes went well yesterday and I have another 3 today.
Just off to do the ironing before they start.

Hope everyone has a good day

ScreamToTheSky · 22/10/2021 10:02

Aww mc big step for little one! 💐

I am feeling like shit this morning. I didn’t wake up till nearly 9! DH was up very late putting the last of the undercoat on. I had retreated to bed to avoid really losing it with DD1 who is once again in the throes of teen selfishness. 😑

po3.1
❗️Work on the laptop to finish up everything before half term. May as well enjoy the fact I can stay in bed while I work 🤣
❗️Get up and dressed
❗️Get cab to work coach appt (may be my last one!)

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/10/2021 13:09

I have a 70+ yo with a similar attitude. Words have been exchanged. Cross words.

How is everyone's day going?

OP posts:
ScreamToTheSky · 22/10/2021 14:16

Always fun when they don’t grow out of it 😑

I’m home from my appt, nice to tell my work coach how it’s going. I didn’t get the decorating stuff we needed, felt really sick and headachey still so came home.

po3.2
❗️Finish timesheet and final email check
❗️Report change on UC
❗️Covid jab permission for DD1

YupIFreakilyHave · 22/10/2021 16:51

Thanks dancing Austrian spa in the corner sounds good. Enjoy the shopping experience, and hopefully the journey too. Awks.

goth those wrist warmers are beautiful 😍 such talent. Are they your hand and arm? I feel like the hand should be holding a very red apple- reminds me of the wicked queen in Snow White for some reason.

hills yes feeling less tired today, thanks. Day has been busy and I got a bit tired and words were had at DS because he came home starving because he had not eaten his packed lunch. Angry He normally has school dinners and had been complaining so I made him a packed lunch. This is why I refuse to make him packed lunches, time, money and effort wasted and worry that he hasn't eaten. At least with school dinners, he might starve but I don't see how little he has eaten. Honestly, sometimes I despair of his restricted diet.

Anyway. Breathe.

Awww at MC's LO going to nursery. Thanks

Ta-da
Made pancakes for breakfast (for DS)
Picked up new reading glasses 🤓
(Was weird experience)
Went to home bargains and bought a clock for mum and 2 big plastic tubs to contain DS's Lego (he already has 3 tubs!).
Went to Waitrose to get expensive ice cream that DS likes
Caught up with the minimalism game
School run
Dropped off clock at mum's
Washed up a mountain range of items.

YupIFreakilyHave · 22/10/2021 16:54

Whilst at Waitrose I bought Charlie Bigham's butter chicken curry and rice and pizza for DS. Dinner sorted.

MrsTidyHouse · 22/10/2021 17:07

Ran out of steam Wednesday and Thursday once both LOs were back at school. I had a bit of a rough throat and couldn't summon up the energy for much. Fortunately, yesterday and today have started off bright and sunny, which makes such a difference to my mood.

The LOs have started walking home from school some afternoons with friends. I still drive them there in the mornings so that I have the evidence of my own eyes that they actually went in the door. Not having to leave again at half-two for pick-up makes the afternoon far less stressful.

MrTidyHouse was offered minimum wage this week to pick fruit and veg in the fields or stand for hours sorting in an open-sided shed with cctv to monitor every move and no talking. Apparently the "young ones" don't want to. He and I have had long conversations about all the diy and other improvements that need done at home. It is an almost overwhelming list, but a better use of our limited energies, and might make equity release an option in the future.

Paperwork this weekend. Shudder!

GoingGoingGoth · 22/10/2021 18:23

Freakily Thank you and I wish.
No that’s Thing, my plastic hand.
I also have Edna and Fred & Ginger (plastic head & 2 feet) At one point DD thought I was slowly building some plastic Frankenstein’s monster Grin

Classes went well today, now trying to think what to do for dinner.

foxessocks · 22/10/2021 20:32

Hi everyone, sorry for disappearing, just popping by to say I hope everyone is okay and keeping on keeping on...

I don't recognise anyone because you've all spooky names now Grin

Dancingtomusic · 22/10/2021 21:28

Foxes! I was thinking how you are - how are you keeping? Hows tbe kirchen going?

HauntingHazel · 23/10/2021 06:01

Sorry I went AWOL, I have been busy. Between working my 2nd job again, lots of housework & starting up the low carb bootcamp (refreshing my memory with rules etc for eating that way properly again), I've not had much time to get on this thread.

I did actually spend a lot of my time in the bedroom on Tuesday, my day off. I was washing sheets & mattress protectors, putting up pictures in our bedroom, dusting our bedroom, vacuuming and spraying the carpets with a foaming cleaner, and cleaning both bathrooms. I also washed about 7 LOLs total (including the bedding) running up and down stairs with each load. I got things put away that I've been putting off to make it all clearer in the house.
Tonight I had DS help me make cupcakes for a birthday tomorrow (I work during the day, but they'll have them after dinner tomorrow nights for my nieces birthdays). Although I just told him what to add and how much, so he made them! They smell delicious, that's all that matters to me since I can't eat them. We will frost them tomorrow after work.

We're still working on our Halloween Party that's next Saturday, and I have a huge list of things I need to do during the week, most of it has nothing to do with the party, but birthdays at work.
So I may not stop in again for a while, sorry, unless I can catch a break that is.

🍒👋 to everyone

Ah thanks dancing kitchen is nearly all done now, nearly time to start on the utility room and downstairs toilet!

It's been so busy around here with one thing or another.

It's nice to read about what everyone is up to 🙂

StillUpSpooking · 23/10/2021 09:27

Morning all. Nesting seems to have started. I’ve just spent a fortune on the dunelm website I storage, curtains, cushions, all sorts Blush. Now I want everything to arrive right now so I can organise.

DH is out most of today so I need to work out what I’m going to do to entertain DD. There will not be much flying today I suspect!

ScreamToTheSky · 23/10/2021 09:44

Goth those are seriously awesome!

Got the first coat of wall colour done last night, all working together once Cagletini was asleep. Looks pretty good so far! Also ripped up more of the carpet although I did manage to stab myself in the finger while doing so. Hmm

Aww exciting about the nesting up 🥰 I need to go to dunelm or the range - we need curtains but I’ve no clue what colour to go for. The walls are a sort of mumsnet OP green, perhaps a bit paler. Floor will be mid grey wood and sofa is charcoalish. According to Google purples are a good complement but I really can’t see that working even though I love purple. Thoughts?!

Can anyone send a search party out… I’ve not seen my bedroom floor for weeks and I’m starting to think it’s never coming back 😬

ScreamToTheSky · 23/10/2021 11:04

Maths lesson rearranged to 2pm, kind of wish I’d known before I bothered getting dressed 🤣 but I have some nice peaceful time now which is good - everyone else is out.

po3.1
❗️LOL
❗️Quick room rescue of living room to save some space
❗️Neaten up some screen share files especially stuff I’m using later (I want to divide it up into more specific subtopics which means duplicating some things)

YupIFreakilyHave · 23/10/2021 11:11

Which room are you doing up scream and what kind of vibe would you like? Personally, if I was going for a calm vibe, I would go for pale/powder pink. Or maybe burnt orange if you wanted to add contrast. Or a pattern of wall colour/pink or wall colour/burnt orange.

Stilllivinginazoo · 23/10/2021 11:25

screamperhaps pale lilac?
Up nesting is really something else isn't it?(remembers scrubbing stairs at 5am heavily pregnant, like a newborn will care about such matters 🤣)

It's Officially Decided the girls rooms WILL be tackled this half term possibly lives will be lost trying
Dd1 coming over Thursday to see what we can rejig, then a trip to IKEA (ahead lil zoo birthday Friday)in the meantime I need convince dd2 she doesn't need 2large wardrobes of clothes, esp when wears less than half of them

Dancingtomusic · 23/10/2021 11:52

Yup- thoses colours sound lovely screams green wall.

Goth- I loved your wrist warmers! The plastic hand is creepy- very halloween.

Hills- I didnt know those bookcases were stronger - i will keep that in mind- its really good to know.

Scream- what shade of green is it pls? Could you attach a photo? How is cag feeling now?

Zoo- sending out great well vibes. Aww lovely to hear another baby has made it safely into the world. Bet you are knitting fast.
Sorry to hear that about your plants, its upsetting when they die. I hope you get some answers.

Hazel- you have done so much! With work and housework its alot to juggle. Glad to hear you are ok. Looking forward to hearing about your halloween party. I was in charity shop, a mum was looking for a halloween costume - she tried on a 80s wedding dress, ivory coloured taffeta, frills, and buttons from nape to bottom. Long sleeves and a slight bustle on the bum and a small trail. She was unsure and was going to splatter it with red paint to look like blood. I told her she looked fabulous and she should get it and attach red netting to parts of the dress to look like blood. She would look like a victorian horror lady.

Foxes- great your kitchen is done! Do you have to pick tiles for the utiity?

Zoo- i had a lovely time at Ikea thanks. Lots of stuff to distract my mind. I made friends with dbro partner as i didnt want an atmosphere and he drove us there in his car. The food was a lifesaver for me and so we ordered a big variety of stuff.
Its the longest I have spent away from the kids since they were born and the longest I had not been reminded of the kids nearly getting run over outside school.
Frankly, it was wonderful not to have to think of the kids school and school runs for one day as dh was in charge of them.

I brought myself a plastic plant. I would love a real one but i am worried it wouldnt survive.
I also bought a lack tv bench £9 to try and use in my small hallway as a shoe bench. This may be too big....i need to go check.

Todo
Mix concrete and pour into gap under the front door where every night and slug and friends come and dance on the mat. I have terfed out 2 slugs...and i was greeted by another one at 1.30am when the kids were crying for water.

Some how...bring order to the hallway of hell- more halloween references- the hallway where everything gets dumped.

Big waves to everyone i have missed.
