Pumpkin spice and ghost abound, fledglings flying through the crazy

Right for this seasonal thread of the Fledgings, I invite you to pull up a comfy chair around the fire pit and pour yourself a mug of something that you fancy.

We loosely follow the flylady system and her babysteps. But we have our own spin, our own abbreviations and have been around for far longer than some of us would like to admit. If you are new to these parts welcome in, we'll get you up to speed in no time. But we have rules, yes rules!

Rule 1: No fledgling left behind.
life happens. If you fall off the thread, jump back when you are ready.

Rule 2: If you wouldn't say it to someone else, don't say it to yourself
Be kind to yourself, the world is still crazy, and life happens. Just do what you can, when you can.

Right that's the rules now for the fun part. Acronyms and autocorrects!
Amongst others (and there are others but we'll have to explain as we go along)
It's all gone a bit ponty pridd - tits up, pete tong, wrong etc etc we get to thank auto correct for this
WOW wash out Wednesday - humps days often don't go to plan and get washed out
LOL round these parts it is load of laundry

Urm... Yeah about that fire pit and comfy chair... Dibs on the big floofy one with fluffy blankies... Last one in brings the marshmallows!

Those sometimes we all need a little help

Willow I absolutely love Saag Paneer, would you be able to link to the recipe please?

I loved that Teen thread, mine feels like a relative saint compared to some on there although she has her moments.

It’s another grey & wet day here so I plan to potter about,, see what I can get done.

IWillWoooTheGhoulWillow · 19/10/2021 10:29

Morning all! Am up and on it today.

Saag paneer is very quick and easy, takes about ten minutes. I will find the recipe when I'm downstairs and put it here, I do it from my head now and I suspect it is not quite as it was!

Those when I felt like that with only 4 DC, I had the teenage sibling of one of DS2's friends as a mother's help a couple of times a week. She was an absolute lifesaver.

ED glad you got to enjoy some early quiet.
Dancing I think someone to to whizz round mopping and vacuuming is an excellent idea (she says, as my mopping-and-vacuuming lady is doing just that as we speak).
Goth nice to see you again. That teenagers thread made me quite grateful for mine too!
Zoo hope this morning has gone better 💐
Hills hope people are behaving today!

Ta Da:
💖 Up, washed, dressed, ready before 8am (minor miracle)
🧡 Healthful breakfast and all meds
💛 Took DD to school as she overslept and missed the train
💚 Pickled last night's eggs
💙 Cleared up kitchen so it can be cleaned
💜 Disappeared up into my eyrie before anyone could ask me to look after the dog (I have Things To Write and it's definitely DH's turn)

MrsTidyHouse · 19/10/2021 11:47

Nothing much happening here, as LG is off school till tomorrow after an upset tummy on Sunday. She was all weak and wobbly yesterday, mostly from lack of food. Very lively today! LB is still away having a longer-than-expected weekend in the hope of avoiding any kind of infection. I thought at first it might be norovirus, but sure now it isn't, so back to normal tomorrow.

Redsquirrel5 · 19/10/2021 12:18

Morning all.
Up think I forgot to say good news about negative test.

Need to make decision about Osteopath. My back was a lot better yesterday from the prolonged rest I was never able to give it when I had children or was at work. Swelling has gone right down and much more movement. Going to venture out for a short walk and see how it goes. I might not go to Osteopath it is £49 now.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/10/2021 13:21

edI forgot to add I LOVE your kitchen
Those assume mrthat can't take up some of the slack?in which case if none of it too hard maybe older DC step up for a while(perhaps with incentives)for some chores etc?fail that I too think if paying extra help is viable you should.lovely.you are spinnings so many platesFlowers

ScreamToTheSky · 19/10/2021 16:15

I suspect more “won’t” than “can’t” with MrThose 😡

Had a fairly productive day so far. It’s difficult doing the decorating with Cagletini around but we have planned out all the tasks for the evening (including letting her do a bit of white emulsion before her bath :o) so we can get lots done once she’s upstairs for the night.

Need a power of three again:
❗️Prep for maths tomorrow
❗️Organise my tutoring files a bit better on the PC
❗️Start a new openlearn course

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/10/2021 16:46

I have no idea what the black slugde was in a former life but it has been evicted. Ds' gaming area is... yeah.

Today is not going to plan. It involves a lot of swear words.

Banana skin?

🤬Hills!

Walk went really well. Met villager with new rescue dog as her old dog had died in summer. He is a beautiful fox hound and settling in well.
I managed to walk about 1/2 a mile and part is a hill not that steep and back.
Baked a cake this afternoon. It is one of those cup measured cakes and just put the dry ingredients in and add the wet ones, mix and into a greased pan. We had five bananas that were nearly black. Perfect!
Hoping DH will help me change the sheets on my bed.it has been mentioned.

IWillWoooTheGhoulWillow · 19/10/2021 20:01

Saag recipe here! I fry off a pack of paneer, cut into chunks, in a little butter and some curry spices, until it's browned and bit crispy, then I tip it in at the end.

Pumpkin spice and ghost abound, fledglings flying through the crazy
Dancingtomusic · 19/10/2021 22:51

Willow- thank you for this recipe! I was just thinking....i need to eat spinach, kale or chard - to improve my health ( esp my hair.)
I will definately try this and try and find some panner in the shops.

Red- I am glad to hear the swelling has gone done on your back and resting it has helped. I hope continues to improve and save you £49

Hills- you are a brave person tackling the black sludge!!

AbandonAllHalfHope · 20/10/2021 08:47

Red glad the walk helped your poor back. Take it easy.

Anti procrastination day. I need this 😳🤣🍃🌿🍂

IWillWoooTheGhoulWillow · 20/10/2021 09:05

Dancing I meant to say - I use frozen spinach, started off with 5 mins in the microwave. It means you need a much smaller saucepan, for a start! And it's somehow less fiddly.

Red glad your back is feeling a bit better, perhaps rest is the answer? Hope you got your bed changed.

Zoo your cheese and marmite croissants sound lovely! I've given up on the news first thing any more, I just end up playing smack the rat with things I get anxious about. It's not worth it for the illusion of being well-informed.

Anti-procrastinating here too AbandoneHope. So I'm off to do 3 phone calls / emails I've been avoiding.

StillUpSpooking · 20/10/2021 10:00

Hi fledglings 👋. I’ve got my first Wednesday off with no appointments or plans other than the school run, and I’m very happy about it. Got quite a lot to do, but my BP has crept up so I’m being monitored and just trying to do little bits here and there as I fancy. So far I’ve managed to rearrange an appointment and empty the DW. The house is a little untidy but nothing too horrific so I’m just going to do 5 minutes here and there.

Thanks for the recipe Willow, might have to give that a try.

Getting some outside help would definitely free up some hours for you Those. I think I’m going to get my oven cleaned and a one off deep house clean before baby arrives.

I’m crossing my fingers for a negative for DD2 Zoo!

Dancingtomusic · 20/10/2021 11:30

Up- take it easy lovely. Its good they are monitoring you. I think getting someone in for a one off deep clean sounds like a fab idea.

Willow - great tip about the frozen spinach!!

Abandon- you can do this!

Zoo- i do love being outdoors in nature. Fingers crossed for a negative test result.

Todo
Cook sausage cassulat - need to find a recipe, so when kids come back from swimming they might eat it.

ScreamToTheSky · 20/10/2021 11:48

Morning everyone. Cagletini off from nursery again as still sniffly and miserable. Really hoping she’s ok tomorrow as apart from anything else DH and I both have meetings, although I can at least be on mute for most of mine! However it means that again not much decorating can be done until tonight.

Maths (including making and sending homework) and 1to1 with the boss done.

po3.1
❗️Write personal and work to do lists so things stop spinning round my head!
❗️Write shopping list with DH as he needs to run errands in town
❗️Relax for a bit. This may involve finishing the peanut m&ms

ScreamToTheSky · 20/10/2021 12:31

Not so much relaxing as planned (although the peanut m&ms did get prioritised…) as I realised I have a volunteer call at 1. 🤦🏻‍♀️

po3.2
❗️Play/read with Cagletini for a bit
❗️Message a couple of parents about tuition over half term
❗️Make phone call and send report

IWillWoooTheGhoulWillow · 20/10/2021 13:44

I have successfully anti-procrastinated!
❤️ Made the phone call and sent two emails I had been avoiding.
🧡 Telephone appointment at 10
💛 Lol on
💚 Clean washing collected, taken upstairs, handed out
💙 90 min round trip to pick up missing paper prescription
💜 Pre-ordered Christmas gift for darling friend arrived, wrong personalised. Sent email asking them to fix it. Devoutly thankful I started this early as she is more unwell this week.
❤️ Finally (by accident) discovered how to add a Welsh keyboard to my phone. May get back to that pesky owl after all.
🧡 Set up my new wireless mouse all on my big-girl own although it is still charging so is currently wired 🤦
💛 Finished sewing bats onto the full moon for DS3's Hallowe'en duvet cover.

To do:
☔ Get prescription made up
🤿 Do client billing and print checking that I am avoiding
☔ Stitch full moon to duvet
🤿 Cut out and stitch pumpkins onto duvet
☔ Subside in grateful heap as DH does tennis-and-Tesco run.🤿☔🤿☔🤿☔🤿

ScreamToTheSky · 20/10/2021 15:09

Well done willow that’s a lot of anti procrastinating! Sorry your friend isn’t doing well 💐

DH and DS are back from town, managed to get what we needed barring lost prescriptions.

po3.3
❗️Eat something - where did lunchtime go?!
❗️Live chat to get refund or replacement on non existent parcel
❗️Rinse washing

ScreamToTheSky · 20/10/2021 17:42

Ugh bit overwhelmed this afternoon. Not getting much done at all.

po3.4
❗️Water and painkillers
❗️Send video needed for DS
❗️Sign a couple of work forms and return

ScreamToTheSky · 20/10/2021 19:42

Anti procrastination mostly done (and it’s actually Wednesday!!!) - I’ve set up my work laptop etc too.

po3.5
❗️Set date for rearranged maths lesson
❗️Check messages about parkour and try to book more sessions
❗️Decide what to get for Cagletini from my parents as they sent some money for that purpose 🥰

HillsBesideTheSea · 20/10/2021 19:55

So today i procrastinated. Hmm

I did send an important email
And i did order a part that is needed
but i did not do laundry, load the dw, sort paperwork, do any study or write the application i was supposed to.

Hmm
OP posts:
StillUpSpooking · 20/10/2021 19:56

Sorry about the overwhelm Sing. Don’t be to hard on yourself, you still seem like you’ve been productive.

Impressive anti-procrastination Willow. Sorry to hear your friend is more unwell Flowers

I think I achieved a good mix of feet up and flying.

Ta Das:
🧙‍♀️ LOL
🧙‍♀️ a bit of ironing
🧙‍♀️ cleaned all upstairs windows and sills
🧙‍♀️ sorted some paperwork, updated diary etc
🧙‍♀️ Dishes done and benches wiped
🧙‍♀️ Did maths, reading and carved a pumpkin for the school competition with DD
🧙‍♀️ s&s x 2
🧙‍♀️ tidied living room

Now I’m going to chill with a hot chocolate and Netflix as it’s DH’s turn for bedtime and then he’s off to play 5 a side.

Hope everyone is well, it’s been quiet here today. Waves to Hills, Zoo, Dancing, Hope, ED, Those, Red, Foxes, Honey, Hazel, Mc, Yup, Tidy, Goth, Merry, Fiddle, Bella and I’ve undoubtedly missed someone so extra 🍒 👋.

ScreamToTheSky · 20/10/2021 22:08

po3.6
❗️Washing in dryer
❗️Sugar soap last bit of skirting and clean floor
❗️Fill in October’s work hours so far in diary

Redsquirrel5 · 21/10/2021 00:08

Anti procrastination...ha ha I forgot that. Well my anti procrastination was that the others were walking into the city centre( it calls itself a city, it only gets called that because it has a cathedral it is smaller than some towns) which wasn’t far 1/2 a mile? I was procrastinating over the Nigel Slater Book because I am trying not to buy any more and I am a one in one out timetable. I am now the proud owner of one and my friend bought one too! Thank you, I think Hills told me it was on offer in WHSmiths I got it for £9 they had two left.😀I will start it tomorrow as DH is going walking so I will feed the hens and then sit in the Summerhouse.

I think I might need to go to the Osteopath. It is a bit stiff. If I sit down for a while I stiffen up. Neck is feeling a bit lumpy too so maybe I need a spinal overhaul!

Sorry no personals as I have just come in. I met colleagues from school
And we bumped into our old head too who was surprised and bemused to see us all. We are going to meet up with us girls next month. One used to work there but left 7 years ago. The rest of us are products/ damage collateral of a takeover.
DH picked me up and took me to my friend’s house where I had my tea and then we went to flower club. Tomorrow night repeat but to garden club. Some of the same people go. Small but very friendly. Different people to where I live which is good to meet new people.

DH is hoping to go walking providing the weather is good and he wakes up in time. I slept all night for the first time in about 6 weeks. Are you still having problems Zoo?

Been watching 24 hours A& E. Will catch up on the thread now. Anyone heard from Hazel?
Hope the man child has stepped up those!
