Washing machine recommendations please

My Siemens washing machine is on its last legs. It’s done great service and was made in Germany (apparently that’s good). The replacement model is made in China and the repair man said that the German made models are better. I have done some research but there’s a huge choice. Please can anyone recommend a recently purchased machine? I’m not fussy about a particular brand but needs to be reliable.
Budget up to around £800, and ideally with a decent warranty?

We can see this thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best washing machine page with lots of great options loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

There's so much choice and there have also been supply shortages due to Covid and the lack of shipping containers. When our washing machine died we ended up buying a secondhand Beko which I'm happy with. Ours is in a utility room rather than on show in the kitchen.

Look at John Lewis and AO.com and Which? and Good Housekeeping reviews if you can.

Thank you - that’s a good idea to get a second hand one. I have looked on various websites and stock levels are frustrating. It’s a shame about my current machine -the repair man kept saying how lucky I was to have a decent model that was made in Germany.

I couldn't find any if the models I was interested in and some are very expensive with mediocre reviews! So many people replace perfectly functioning appliances when they are changing their kitchens, etc. Ours is a stop gap, but I wouldn't be surprised if we have it for years! (Fingers crossed)

If your budget can stretch to a Miele, they are the best. Alternatively Bosch or Siemens (the ones that are made in Germany say Extraklasse on them).
If you do buy new go to an independent retailer as the ones sold on the large chains are often slightly different models and worse quality.
On the other end of the price spectrum beko is at least not made in china and is fairly repairable

Not Bosch. I got through 3 in under 2 years (to be fair Bosch replaced them, but all I wanted was 1 machine that worked for more than 6 months). Though to be fair my Bosch dishwasher is going strong still after 11 years.

Pusspot · 11/09/2021 11:35

@Madwomanuptheroad29 thank you, that’s great advice about the Extraklasse logo. I do have a Miele oven and warming drawer, and the drawer has needed two repairs recently. Very costly! (Out of warranty). Our local repair man doesn’t fix Miele. If they had a free extended warranty promotion I would probably get one though.

Recommend miele as well. Get the cheapest - nobody needs loads of different programs.

Pusspot · 11/09/2021 11:37

@Motnight thank you - and I’m sorry you had so many issues. We had a Bosch dishwasher in our last house that was also great.

@bilbodog thank you, I definitely don’t need anything complicated. Our Miele oven is the most basic model which came with the pyro cleaning function. It’s been great. Not so impressed with the warming drawer though!

I have an LG washing machine, just over 8 years old and never had a problem with it. Has a 10 year extended warranty. When this one finally dies, I will buy another.

Love my Bosch i-Dos. Not having to measure out the liquid each time is such a timesaver!

Alfiemoon1 · 11/09/2021 12:14

Samsung eco bubble

StrongTea · 11/09/2021 12:29

My LG one is about 14 years old possibly slightly more, would buy another. Used at least twice daily.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 11/09/2021 12:36

I have a bosch built in and a miele standalone.

Both are great. The miele has a shorter cycle, but it’s older and I think the long cycles are an energy saving thing on newer machines? The miele seemed to do more damage to clothes- those tiny holes in t-shirts, i haven’t noticed in the bosch.

On balance I prefer the bosch. It actually has useful programmes - sportswear as well as silk/wool/delicates which is great as i have active kids. It’s also very quiet, especially the spin cycle.

Okbutnotgreat · 11/09/2021 13:24

Love my Bosch. Wasn’t mega bucks, is a mid range series 6 I think but has good range of programmes including very quick wash, 1 hr everyday wash and the longer more economic ones too. You can adjust spin and temperature, make long washes shorter and best of all you can add things to wash if you left them out by mistake.

AmyW23 · 11/09/2021 13:36

Ebac washing machines all come with a 7 year warranty. They are made in the UK and have very good reviews.

MrsPerfect12 · 12/09/2021 08:14

Bloomberg is a good German make with a 5 year warranty. I bought a Bloomberg dishwasher and I'm very happy with it.

Pusspot · 12/09/2021 10:43

Thank you everyone for your replies. I think I’m going with another Siemens Extraklasse model which I can buy from a local shop. It’s got a five year warranty included.

Blomberg used to be a German company, it is now owned by beko. Basically Blomberg appliances are beko machines.
Not bad but not quite up there with Siemens, Bosch, Miele.

Buttons294749 · 12/09/2021 23:26

My Bosch lasted over 10 years so I have a new 400-500 quid one which works well

Wingedharpy · 09/01/2022 01:55

@Pusspot : Apologies for reactivating this thread but, did you go with the Siemens Extraklasse model and are you happy with your choice?
My 20 year old Hotpoint just refuses to spin any more as of today.
