£80 for 45-50 minutes cleaning?

I started with a whole clean from molly maids then a fortnightly. The spent about 45 minutes here and billed me £80. Perhaps I'm losing touch but this seems really excessive to me and am tempted to cancel. I also pay for mums and they took an hour there and also £80.

Is £80 for 45 minutes of two cleaners right?

I expect you're paying more because it's an agency.

Longdistance · 04/07/2021 12:40

Too much. 45 minutes I’d short. They must be raking it in.

4PawsGood · 04/07/2021 12:43

Did you not ask how much it would be?

We got a quote from them a few years ago and their hourly rate was pretty high. I think £17 compared to a usual £8 for an independent cleaner.

Now we pay £13 for an independent cleaner, so I suppose molly maid could be £22 an hour. That’s still way under what you’ve paid.

£30 an hour is a rip off. Perhaps they were meant to stay longer.

LightasaBreeze · 04/07/2021 12:46

You are paying the agency a good chunk of that

MotionActivatedDog · 04/07/2021 12:47

How many cleaners spent 45 minutes there?

I did ask the cost. What I didn't expect was that they'd take 45 minutes and do the bare minimum.

Sorry! I can see now it was 2 cleaners. That’s an insane price!!

julshk72 · 04/07/2021 12:49

i thought it was insane too - ok I'm going to cancel and try to find another way to find a cleaner!

I'd be complaining and asking for some money back personally...

PegasusReturns · 04/07/2021 12:53

It’s difficult to understand what your specific issue is here.

Was the agreement that they’d clean for longer than 45 mins? Or have they charged you more than the agreed rate for 45mins.

I would imagine MM to charge about £25 per hour. So I would expect two cleaners to stay for 90 mins each.

howsicklyarsekissy · 04/07/2021 12:59

Mmmm I hear they price per job & not per hour! I am a professional cleaner & am super fast, once you know a house you do get faster but even someone experienced can't clean to a high standard in that time.

ahoyshipmates · 04/07/2021 13:00

2 people x 45 minutes is an hour and a half. £80 for an hour and a half's work is absurd.

julshk72 · 04/07/2021 13:03

thank you all - i'm not insane thinking the price is outrageous Grin off to find another cleaner probably won't ask for inet back and just cancel explaining why

Ditch the agency.
Our cleaner does 1.5-2 hours for £23.
We used to pay the agency £27.

Oblomov21 · 04/07/2021 13:35

£13 p/h in Surrey.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/07/2021 13:40

I paid my cleaner £10
An
Hour and the agency £25 a months. As soon as I discovered she did private work, I sacked off the agency. And pay her £13 an hour instead.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/07/2021 13:41

I
Looked at Molly maids and their prices were ridiculous. And you ha e to have two cleaners, which I just don't need.

burnoutbabe · 04/07/2021 13:47

I'd maybe expect molly mades to be double the price of a independent cleaner. So mine is £25 for 2 hours so 2 of them for a full hour could've £50 as you are adding in insurance and vat and marketing etc

But not £80 for 45 mins. Was the place left totally clean?

(1 hour with 2 is less hassle I think, especially now when I prefer to leave the flat when cleaner comes which was a bit crap in lockdown with just a park to sit in at times)

WestendVBroadway · 04/07/2021 14:12

I have never heard of Molly Maids, but I am just off now to apply for a job with them if that is the going rateGrin

GU24Mum · 05/07/2021 05:49

I just had a look at their website and it says that if you aren't 100% satisfied, they'll come back. So, if they haven't done everything properly, get them back in. If they are somehow magicians and did do it in that time, I guess that is what you were paying (a lot....) for.

If they think the bare minimum is what they quoted to do, then I'd definitely cancel.

M0nkeybars · 05/07/2021 07:53

I used molly maid once - they charged £130 for an initial 'deep clean' which they said was their policy then it was meant to be £70 every fortnight thereafter. The deep clean took 45 mins and house was no cleaner than normal. I got a refund of the difference between their deep clean and normal clean and never used them again. Also found them incredibly rude to deal with. We used maid2clean for a while who were OK although it took a while to find a regular cleaner in our area. Since covid we're WFH so back to doing housework ourselves!!

bigbaggyeyes · 05/07/2021 08:11

Ouch that sounds a lot.

I use a local lady, she charges me £20 for 90 minutes. Not a deep clean, but she dusts, hoovers, cleans kitchen and bathroom and mops the floor

cheeseychovolate · 05/07/2021 09:45

Ask for recommendations for a cleaner from friends or colleagues.
