Hello and welcome to the July 2021 Fledgling Flylady Thread. Thank you Willow for an excellent pair of June threads. Welcome to one and all, old hands and newbies, lurkers and longtime posters and anyone in between. This thread keeps us vaguely on track with Flylady and is where we post our Ta Das and Yes Ta Das (what we did yesterday 😁), our To Dos and To Didn'ts, and discuss anything that comes to mind (often not housekeeping!).

The beauty of Flylady is that you are never behind, the whole system repeats every month, just jump in wherever. The aim is to gradually get into good habits and regular routines that keep the house ticking over rather than having a huge blitz on it.

To help you with this I'll be posting links to Flyady's Flight Plan and other useful parts of the website, which is updated daily, it's also good to go in and have a browse (some of it is a bit twee though). Do NOT sign up for the emails, you will be inundated.

The system divides the house up into weekly zones, then in each zone there will be timefor decluttering, a small daily task (the Mission) and each day of the week has a theme too (eg Errand Day). You can switch things around to suit your circumstances, there is a weekly Sneak Peek page to help you plan ahead. There are also 31 Babysteps, small daily habits to adopt (eg wearing shoes around the house if you'd rather not). Finally Flylady wants you to make time for you and your family, so weekends are more relaxed.

Jargon
Flylady (and the thread!) has a little bit of her own peculiar jargon it can help to know:
S&S - swish and swipe - a quick go round a bathroom or cloakroom to keep it acceptably fresh
LoL load of laundry. We are not collapsing into hysterical laughter over the state of our washing baskets
Hotspots any areas that tend to collect clutter no matter how often you clear them - mine is definitely the corner of the worksurface by the kitchen door, and the bookshelf at the bottom of the stairs
5 minute room rescue a quick whizz round any room to create a semblance of order
Weekly Home Blessing (often Home Bleugh here) - an hour a week to keep the house acceptable. I think this can only be done in an hour if you only have one bed in the house to change, so take it with a pinch of salt. I spread mine over the week as I cannot get it down to an hour and don't have an hour to give to it either.
Ned and Ted - imaginary friends often draughted in to assist with washing and ironing
BRC Bag, or box, of Random Crap
(D)LMS (Didn't) Lose My Shit - often a necessary acronym around spouses and teens!
Naughty Corner - the thread's imaginary space for rest and recuperation when it all gets too much. Often stocked with soft cushions, blankets, drinks and snacks. May or may not have a free bar, fire place, sunloungers, hot and cold running barmen etc.
Cherry waves 🍒👋 - lovely type for cheery wave that stuck!
All Fed and No One Dead - a good outcome to a busy day.

The beauty of Flylady is that is can be adapted to any household setup - lots of DC or just one, or none; a partner / spouse, or ex, or those going it alone; those working within or outside the home; shiftwork, you name it.

Our motto is No Fledgling Left Behind, so if you are a returner or a lurker, welcome on board, there is always space her for more Fledglings.

Oh no zoo I hope she’s ok soon, and covid negative! Bloody nightmare all of this :(

Bit anxious this afternoon, think all the changes are getting to me a bit - eg in town now not knowing which places are still expecting masks and which aren’t. Gah. I’m glad it’s nearly end of term and a lot of clubs have finished. I want to write a nice list of fun stuff to do and places to go over the summer!

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/07/2021 13:38

Zoo

i have come to a complete stand still today. dust allergy is really playing havoc with my breathing. But there is no relief until i am done which also sucks.

I have given up trying to find my allergy tablets and pain killers. Going to throw on suitable in public clothes and go buy some new, ice cream and tinned rice pudding.

And then all the things. Deep cleaning is going to be the necessary evil to feel better but motivation is hard right now.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 21/07/2021 14:15

I keep reading bits of the thread, meaning to post, but never actually doing it Blush

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/07/2021 14:19

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 21/07/2021 14:27

Dancingtomusic · 21/07/2021 14:32

SingToTheSky · 21/07/2021 15:24

Best of luck that 🥵

Hills I’m sorry you’re feeling crap and overwhelmed about the appointment 💐

Glad the tooth is out dancing

Second tutoring session done, just got one maths lesson tomorrow (in person!!! Finally!) and then I’m done for the week. Must focus on studying as my email to the support team worked and they’ve finally got my tutor to start marking my assignments.

I’m utterly shattered but I do need to prep for tomorrow and next week ASAP as one of my resource memberships runs out soon and there is a few days before the home ed discount appears again.

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/07/2021 15:29

When you can hear the panic in your consultants voice I think you are allowed to be worried.

There is some hope but it is all a bit much when you are getting hit by burnout truck and trying to keep going.

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/07/2021 16:25

how many more days til break up?

Well meet on phone took best part 2hrs and we half done.my mental health lowest score point so far.we still have school, family routine, behaviour and boundaries and social networks to go...that's booked afternoon of 29th July

Saw inclusion officer and D's got certificate for attendance and exceptional online engagement.she said he's most able student they've ever had privelage to work with- not sure how to take that...they close tom,but as nothing that resembles online provision has happened in 2weeks since only staff member not available to work in schoolwent on paternity leave she's agreed he can official start summer now!
He's gaming, and a bit stressed next time he engaged in education it will be with a real school for first time in 3years
I've finally eaten something-sesame bagel and some tuna, plus shared vegan kitkat with dd2(highly recommend if can no longer tolerate dairy and miss them, they taste the same!)

Need check load 5-6 and see if dry.then a joyous pile of ironing needs tacklingcould be a fan aimed at back of neck again job...

SingToTheSky · 21/07/2021 17:16

Ah well done to DS. It’s a big step for him in September!

I am tired and CBA to do anything

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/07/2021 17:41

I long to lay in a cool room and just be
Alas

Feeling hot, tired, pained and rather sorry for myself
Oh well,plod on

Stilllivinginazoo · 21/07/2021 17:41

Dancingtomusic · 21/07/2021 22:05

Zoo- weldone to your ds for getting great feedback!

That- hope you have recovered from the walk uphill! Thank you Dh has pulled hia head back in after I told him what i thought.

Sing- i cba either at 4pm today....

HazelNuttyElf · 22/07/2021 01:34

💐 zoo & hills
🧊 & 🍦 for everyone who is hot

YesTaDas;
🥳 Cabin booked finally for ILs wedding anniversary (thank you for the congrats btw)
🥳 4 LOLs, including bedding
🥳 Late lunch with SIL
🥳 Stopped into 2nd job for a few minutes
🥳 Grocery shopping
🥳 Watched a movie
🥳 Rotated DW

Ta didn't:
😭 Register vehicle, they closed 5 minutes before I got there. Who closes the office at 4:45 anyway?!

I worked all day today, I'll cook dinner, rotate DW since the DC didn't, and possibly get s&s in while dinner is in the oven.

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/07/2021 06:06

hazel can I ask a question?
Dd2 was having a cheese sandwich for dinner as hot and CBA.she sat chat to friends of a fandom online and the ones in u.s didntknow what that was and were confused the cheese wasn't cooked..is this typical?

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 22/07/2021 08:08

I survived the hot hill walk and school runs are no more (well until sept) as dc3 and 4 have broken up now. So this is me 😎

How can you not know what a cheese sandwich is. The mind boggles.

IWillWashTheGreenWillow · 22/07/2021 08:24

I wonder if they were starting from the concept of a grilled cheese sandwich (i.e. toastie) and were therefore perplexed? 🤷

Glad you got to the end of term That and school runs are over. Is That#5 going to nursery in September, or a I am a year ahead? (Can't remember ages and stages of own DC, never mind anyone else's!).

In a rush this morning as DS3 has his last OT session in Aldermaston today, and we leave immediately after his maths lesson finished at 10. Won't be back til 2, so I have to work NOW. 🍒👋 to everyone!

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 22/07/2021 08:32

#5 is not even 2 yet 🤣

He will start school nursery Jan or Sept 2023 (depending on spaces) September born so just misses out in Sept 2022!

Obviously if i go back to work he would go somewhere earlier but i am currently thinking 2 lots of childcare fees plus wrap around for #3 and #4 will not be worth it!

EverythingDelegated · 22/07/2021 08:41

Morning all, ooh, toasted cheese sandwiches, haven't had one of those in a long time.

I didn't sleep too well last night, had the windows open and curtains slightly open as usual, too hot with a duvet, chucked that back and just had a sheet over me, similar to the rest of the week, woke up at 3 cold, pulled the duvet back up, woke up an hour later boiling, repeat cycle several times, give up, get up.

Today is Thursday - which for Fledglings means Errand Day. We are still in the master bedroom and the mission today is to declutter costume jewellery, belts and scarves.

Flight Plan is Here

OP posts:
Dancingtomusic · 22/07/2021 09:03

I actually struggling to see from lack of sleep....was awake till midnight listening to radio music show.
4am ds had cramp in foot- cue crying.
7am dd wets the bed 🤦‍♀️
I dont know what to do to save the mattress. I have blotted it with a towel and now thinking of washing it with hot water and fairy liquid wet towel. Honestly cant think straight.

HillsBesideTheSea · 22/07/2021 09:19

I used to wash down with disinfectant (the old fashioned pine stuff) And then once it dried if it smells to rub some bi carb of soda on it, leave for a few hours and then hoover up.

I slept 15hrs last night. I have been totally side swiped by burnout. which is a problem because there is so much that i need to get done by end of the day tomo. strong pain killers, naps and just keep plodding.
