Tell me about your vacuum cleaner

Right, I need a new vacuum cleaner now!
I prefer an upright (but would consider alternative if really good.)
In the past I’ve had a Dyson which annoyed the hell out of me as it constantly needed unblocking.
Have also had a Henry which I quite like as it’s sturdy and isn’t so all-singing all-dancing so has less to go wrong. But tbh I find an upright more comfortable to use.
I got quite excited reading about anti- hair wrap (we have cats) - does this do what it says on the tin?
Also got excited about the Shark as some people rave about it but I read a thread on here where loads of people said it’s rubbish.
Not fussed about it being cordless- I just want something with really powerful suction that isn’t going to need constant unblocking.

Just hoovered the ground floor, behind my back Henry was rolling around, giving me the stink eye. I just know he's going to push me down the stairs.
Best wishes, it's hard finding a new house mate.

BioBins · 26/01/2021 13:52

I have a tineco cordless. I like that it's easy to use, and much cheaper than a dyson, but no idea how hardy it is. We don't have pets etc...

Thewiseoneincognito · 26/01/2021 13:53

Dyson with the suction strength of a 70 year old 40 per day smoker

TheGoldenCircle · 26/01/2021 13:54

I just bought an iRobot Roomba and I am never going to fully hoover again. My life has significantly improved and I can get on with other stuff apart from spending hours hoovering every week. I will never be without one of these now.

Sebo. Bought a Sebo felix rosso about 8 years ago and it's amazing.

I have had many vacuum cleaners over the years and this is by far the best.

Customer service is excellent too. I had to replace a part after some clumsy use and they were super helpful at mailing it out to me.

BettyCarver · 26/01/2021 17:56

Ooh haven’t heard of Sebo.
I’m afraid I can’t possibly have a Roomba, im just not tidy enough and god knows what it would eat up

We got a shark recently- much better than the old Dyson which I hated as it fell over if I looked at it and had no suction. The anti hair wrap technology is rubbish though - 10mins in to the new hoover, I had to get my scissors out after 1 room (that didn't look too bad before I started.)

JumpLeadsForTwo · 26/01/2021 22:21

The hair caught was human, not cats, so if you don't have long hair then the anti hair wrap might actually work!

Badabingbadabum · 26/01/2021 22:28

We just replaced our Miele with a new Miele. The old one was their basic model, six years old and was just a bit worn. Still worked well enough but battered around the edges. The new one is the next one up (was a huge amount off which is the only reason why we bought it) and is even more fantastic. My dds and I have long hair and it lifts so much up. One cat but she barely sheds fur. Its not an upright which I prefer but I think their upright ones ate good too.

Can you tell I totally love my new vacuum?!

Knittingnanny · 26/01/2021 22:29

I’ve a shark with a cord after reading good reviews but I find it really heavy and difficult to steer. It does have good suction though. I bought a basic model from Argos.
Next time though I would have an exciting day trip to a shop where I could try them out for weight and steering.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 26/01/2021 22:31

I love my eufy so much.

have a henry who is now relegated to the cellar and a hand held shark for the stairs.

Eufy brilliant.

Thattwatoverthere · 26/01/2021 22:33

A cordless Shark that bends in the middle (no idea of model). It's so much better than the mardy arse Henry that refused to follow me into rooms but it also thinks it's more powerful than it is. It'll suck up everything in sight then slowly die when it realises it's not capable of dealing with such things as Lego or paper.

I still need my trusty scissors though. My hair is no match for any hoover...

BarryTheChopper · 26/01/2021 22:33

I bought a shark and just returned it. The suction was crap.

I have gone back to a Vax, I find them the best suction. I have the stretch pet hair one. The suction is phenomenal and I can do the entire house without moving the plug.

JellyBabiesFan · 26/01/2021 22:37

Used to have a corded roller ball Dyson and it was crap so never intended buying another. However my brother and his partner got a newer cordless Dyson and raved about it. I went around for a test drive and ordered one a few days later. Makes me wonder why the preceeding roller ball one was so shit.

This was a couple of years ago so no lockdown rules were broken.

hMG206 · 26/01/2021 22:47

Had a cordless shark a few years back and replaced this year with an anti hair wrap stick Shark but corded.

I thought my old shark was great but I was forever cutting hair out (3 long haired women in this house and a cat)

The new one I’m lucky to find a single hair round it. I do think corded vacuums are better in terms of suction - but it makes it slightly more harder to move but honestly, the results are worth it

InflagranteDelicto · 26/01/2021 22:49

Sebo. I have a dog with a double coat which sheds like crazy and the sebo can handle it like no other hoover. Seriously, she'll be moulting, thick black smudges on the carpet where she's been lying and the sebo gets it up like it's nothing.

InflagranteDelicto · 26/01/2021 22:51

My upright Dart (previously had a Felix) takes bags. To me that's an advantage, there's nothing for my asthma like emptying a bagless hoover and it's filters into the wheelie bin.

WeirdlyOdd · 26/01/2021 22:54

Miele, but it's a cylinder one (is that what they're called - trundle along behind you?). It's 12 years old and works perfectly. Cleaning agency were delighted to find it was a Miele, because they're good.

Madwomanuptheroad29 · 26/01/2021 23:00

We had to replace our Miele recently, it was nearly 20 years old. It coped well with 2 dogs, 3 cats, kids with long hair, building work etc.
It was replaced with another Miele

Kottbullar · 26/01/2021 23:23

Another Miele fan. We've just replaced ours, the previous one was 14 years old. They work so well.

BettyCarver · 26/01/2021 23:24

Lots to think about here. The Sebo sounds great. Is it easy to manoeuvre?

OP posts:
BettyCarver · 26/01/2021 23:28

Oh hang on, just googled and it looks like the Sebo Felix has bags. Is that right? I’d prefer bagless really

OP posts:
InflagranteDelicto · 26/01/2021 23:33

Yes, it has a ball swival type joint. Thin head so fits under the radiators as well. The head has a motorised brush which drags my youngest across the floor slightly.

Yes, bags, but I've never noticed a loss of suction until they're rammed full. A bag lasts me 2-3 months.

VanGoghsDog · 26/01/2021 23:34

I bought Shark anti hair wrap late last year, it didn't work, they replaced it, the replacement didn't work, I sent it back and the replacement never arrived. Just about to do a credit card section 75 claim. So a) they don't work and b) their customer service is shocking!

Throughhistory · 26/01/2021 23:42

Sebo. We also have a Shark, which is shite. There is just no comparison between the two. The Sebo has bags, is well made, solid and efficient. The bags rarely need changing, I have no idea where the dust and hair goes.

In contrast, the Shark dust container is about the size of a mug, and needs emptying all the time. I hate the cloud of dust and god knows what else that rises when you empty the container. So messy. The filter is a dirty fecker that needs cleaning regularly. Boak. No contest.
