Tell me about your vacuum cleaner

Right, I need a new vacuum cleaner now!
I prefer an upright (but would consider alternative if really good.)
In the past I’ve had a Dyson which annoyed the hell out of me as it constantly needed unblocking.
Have also had a Henry which I quite like as it’s sturdy and isn’t so all-singing all-dancing so has less to go wrong. But tbh I find an upright more comfortable to use.
I got quite excited reading about anti- hair wrap (we have cats) - does this do what it says on the tin?
Also got excited about the Shark as some people rave about it but I read a thread on here where loads of people said it’s rubbish.
Not fussed about it being cordless- I just want something with really powerful suction that isn’t going to need constant unblocking.

@BettyCarver

Oh hang on, just googled and it looks like the Sebo Felix has bags. Is that right? I’d prefer bagless really
I think bagless vacuum cleaners are the emperor's new clothes. The dust container is always covered in a layer of dirt inside, when its emptied there's a cloud of dust and as I've said, cleaning the filter is a horrible job. Sliding out a cardboard bag, sealing it and disposing of it (rarely as they take an age to fill) is a far more hygienic process.

We recently got a dyson v11 cordless.
Pros: super easy to use for quick jobs. Good suction. No cord. Great for stairs.
Cons: crap attachments, and they don't all fit on the wall bracket. I had to buy a bracket extender from etsy so they all fit. I prefer our old canister dyson's attachments. The start trigger makes my hand hurt if I have to hoover the whole house. I got a blister on my thumb joint and my house is tiny!
I would give it 7 out of 10

@Throughhistory good point.
My main reason for saying bagless is so I don’t run out of bags but actually you’re right that bagless ones are always filthy and there no avoiding the dirt tornado when emptying them.
Are Sebo bags easy to get hold of online? I’m heartened by the fact they last so long before needing changing. And are they robust? I’ve had a Henry before which I quite liked but it was a bastard getting the new bag stretched tightly over the end of the hose without splitting.
I’m up for bags provided they’re easy to buy and fit

Yes the bags are available online and yes they are extremely (German) robust.

Kottbullar · 27/01/2021 14:08

I get my bags on Amazon subscribe and save so I never run out.

InflagranteDelicto · 27/01/2021 16:18

Yes, they just slot in and click shut. Mine have a little cover to seal it for its journey to the bin

Badabingbadabum · 27/01/2021 17:34

Miele bags you pull out and they immediately seal, then slide a new one in. After years of bagless vacuums, this was a revelation and I will never go back to bagless.

DeadHeadedDaisy · 30/01/2021 07:00

Miele C3 - love it. Really happy I went back to a bagged vacuum, so much easier than cleaning out our old Dyson.

Eufy - I want to love it, but it's underwhelming. Suction not great and I don't use it very much as the kids are scared of it and it always gets stuck

MaryIsA · 30/01/2021 07:08

Roomba 10 years old and love it. Lives upstairs and trundles about.

We have a shark and a vax. Neither of them are v good in my opinion unless you use them all the time. They can’t cope with a once a week hoover in a home with pets and long hair.

Think I need to go back to Miele.

PragmaticWench · 30/01/2021 07:08

@FoofOfTheWalkingDead you can buy a small plastic attachment for the Dyson v11 on Amazon that holds the starter trigger on. I bought one recently, it was less than ten pounds and stops that hand-killing feeling when you do the whole house.

Roselilly36 · 30/01/2021 07:09

Cordless shark duo clean pet model is fab, IMHO, I always have cordless due to my disability, it’s much safer for me. I love the headlights! & the anti hair wrap, works. I was always having problems with hair around the brush bar and hated having to cut it off my GTech air ram. The shark is much, much better in my opinion than the air ram. It’s flexible, has attachments, more versatile in general. Really happy with the shark.

whattodo2019 · 30/01/2021 07:12

I have an Dyson Animal. Although it is very good especially with dog hair it is very heavy to push around/ awkward. The extendable shaft used for the stairs and corners etc is really hard to use snd half of it is metal so doesn't bend...
i would look at a shark with a motorised head.

@PragmaticWench, thank you!
