Essential oil diffusers

Hi everyone, I’m considering getting an essential oil diffuser but don’t know anyone that has one that I can ask or look at. Does the mist/air whatever it is that comes out make anything wet or your house damp? I live in an old house and struggle with dampness so don’t want to add to it x

There is another thread running about people who have nice smelling houses.Lots of talk about different diffusers. You might find some useful information there

Yes it does increase the humidity of the room, so something to consider if you have damp issues.

@Notanorthadontist

Which diffuser are you considering?

I really like the look of the white company and neom ones but they’re quite expensive especially if I decide it’s not for me 🤷‍♀️

I have a very basic one which I keep in my bedroom and love the way it works but it’s not at all lovely to look at! I want one that looks attractive to have in the sitting room. The neom and white company ones are pretty, but I am balking at those prices!

My secret Santa gift ...to myself...was the neom diffuser
If you sign up to neom website they give a discount for first time purchase
I love mine

Embarrassed that I've been on Mumsnet for so long and don't know how to link other threads on the app!

Anyway, the other thread is under Housekeeping, OP, 'how to make your house smell lovely' or something.

I would start basic if you're not sure yet, most diffusers are around £20-£25 on amazon.

I have a basic one and a Neom one. The secret is in the oil. At £20 a pop the Neom oils aren't cheap but smell amazing Smile you can use a basic diffuser with a Neom oil and vice versa.

So do the cheap and expensive ones work the same? And how damp does it make the room? If I stood next to it would I feel it if that makes sense? My house isn’t huge so I’m not sure where I’d put it to be safe and I’ve got 2 dogs. I think I just need to buy a cheap one just so I get an idea what it’s like x

I have an Oliver Bonas one and I don't notice any moisture in the air at all. In fact when I've put my hand in the vapour, it feels like a dry mist, if that makes sense? Love it and the house does smell amazing.

I have then Neom one, it was a gift, I love it
In fact two friends have treated themselves to them after seeing mine
As I’m back at my mums for lockdown I got a cheap one from Amazon, in theory they do they same thing but the amazon one is plastic and I didn’t realise but the light in it isn’t white like my Neom it’s bloody multicoloured so it can go through the colours or I can pick one, no white though! 😂 as a diffuser it’s fine
If you can afford it, look for a discount code and get the pretty one

Oh also my mums house gets a bit damp, I’ve not noticed any issues with the diffuser

I've got one from Muji and it is fine - I do live in a very hot country so don't have any issues with damp though. It's lovely to have on and makes the house smell lovely ☺️

Another vote for the neom one, you get what you pay for. My mum has terrible asthma and it's the only thing she can sit near without feeling unwell.
The oils are expensive but last well, for Christmas I was brought a white company oil. All I could smell was chemicals and when I emptied the diffuser the oil and made the water really murky, so an indicator of what was in it.
I haven't noticed any dampness, just don't put it near a wall, I store mine on a shelf but every evening it's on the dinner table doing its thing.

Thankyou so much everyone 😘. Do you use essential oils in them or just scented oils?

Also considering the M & S one for the sitting room

I have a basic £15 one from Amazon. Not the prettiest to look at but works just fine. As others have said, you need a good quality pure essential oil.
I’ve never noticed any damp issues.

I have one and I absolutely love it. I have the Neom oils and they are very nice but I haven't noticed a huge difference between them and the other ones I have which I bought from HomeSense! They had absolutely loads of them there and I got some great ones.

I bought a tisserand one for around £30 in Holland & Barratt which works well but looks plasticky. My hairdresser has one from Amazon that looks more like a vase & I am tempted to get a similar one for our hall.

In terms of oil I use a mixture of essential oils & candle scents.

Some oils are poisonous to dogs, so check first.

Agree. I splashed out on some white company ones and they're awful.
