Festive Fledglings Flap Frantically Towards A Calm, Clutter-free Christmas!

SingToTheSky · 30/11/2020 22:59

OK so clutter-free is a bit ambitious. But anyway, all welcome to join us for a jolly holiday thread, in which we very loosely follow (or at least half-heartedly mention now and then) the FlyLady system of housekeeping.

I’ll be posting links and reminding us all of various tasks up until Christmas Eve, for those who want to follow the system - and if it’s like previous years there will also be some specific extra missions to help us prepare our homes for Christmas. However, we really are just a bunch of frazzled Mumsnetters who will be very happy to welcome you along for chat whether you follow the system or not! We discuss housework, sure, but a whole lot of other stuff too.

We will also continue with the Keep Calm Corner, in which you’ll find various diverting questions, memes etc.

And finally a huge thank you to Foxes who did a fab job of running the thread for the first time in November! 💐

Ooh foxes I don’t think I have ever had a genius idea collects medal from sing bows and has big smile😁

Snuggled up in bed.
Have had Christmas candle on as we closed the curtains about 4:30 as almost pitch black. We had the lights turned off so lovely fire on and candle light with those Christmas smells and watching Poirot I thought I am really enjoying this winter time.
We had another mug of tea and piece of banana cake before bed.

Stilllivinginazoo · 07/12/2020 02:58

ed hope nets fixed quickly
Foxes I'm not a tea person, but soup is very much like a comforting hug!
Sherin what a neat bump❤️D's and I are weirdos who find idea ice cream when it's cold unthinkable, and it doesn't help us when it's hot eitherBlush
Tinselette I can't cope with things really out of place when painting,it's never spotless here but you can mostly see the floor!
Bower is this your go to banana bread recipe?what's in it?(nosey) we have been trying lots combos as its ds fave and to be frank the girls are no longer excited by it..with vanilla and dark choc chips, swirled with cinnamon sugar, and mix spice and vanilla(no dry fruit) are current favourites

Morning Zoo, hope you managed to go back to sleep.

Happy birthday Sing

Early start here this morning as there is much to do before bloods/school and work. Just sent ds back to bed for another 30 mins cos he looks like death Hmm

ta da
2 lots of prepped from scratch stuffing into freezer
1 lot of bread into freezer,
1 load washing into dryer
1 load washing into machine
DW running (loaded last night so just need to push a few buttons
Soaking grill pans in sinks
Checked ds' uniform is dry.
Put shopping bags back into car
brought in milk and eggs etc
Up and dressed to shoes for the day
clean laundry on my bed for putting away later.
sorted a tray of odds and sods - tray for washing up and returning to use.
gathered all post - remembered to grab address for friends i have stuff to send to.

To do
find stuff for sending
Find relevant envelopes
declutter another tray of doom
deal with a tone of wtf that is on the lounge floor (formally a brc)
blood test for ds
pick up lunch and head to work for that shit storm - i have been warned we have a tech issue (server is down) so that is going to be fun Hmm

Hope you all have good days.

Bowerbird5 · 07/12/2020 07:42

Sing 🥳 Happy Birthday 🥳

Zoo I just make Victoria Sponge.
I used 8 ounces of Vitalite
8 oz sugar( 4oz soft brown and 4oz caster.)
3 eggs
2 black bananas
8oz SR flour.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 07/12/2020 08:25

Happy birthday sing Cake

We have an isolating child again since mid last week so there goes my hope of entering a non essential card shop this week 🙄

TheUpholder · 07/12/2020 08:42

Happy Birthday Sing 🎉 🎈 🥳. Enjoy your day!

That is an impressive list for this time in the morning Hills! Hope tech issues are resolved. I hate getting to work and finding the systems are down.

Zoo I recommend Coco on Disney+ if you haven’t seen it yet, although I’m sure I saw it’s on BBC on Christmas Day. Glad the decorating is done. I hate the mess afterwards too though. By ‘hope it was enjoyable’ I meant Christmas decorating though as I thought I’d read you were hoping to do that. Grrr to ‘d’p and his lack of help.

Bower Hexham are definitely still tier 3. Hoping the Northumberland area is lowered to 2 next week 🤞. The bauble is thankfully one of a pair so I still have one. It’s a deep peacock blue with gold. Can’t remember where I got them from but they were one of the first really nice ones I bought when I moved into my own place. I got another co-ordinating pair at the same time so I’m not too heartbroken.

Sherin love the bump pic. Hope you enjoyed the ice cream.

I got the rest of my to do list done yesterday, so enjoyed a cozy night in a tidy living room with our decorations and Christmas Chronicles 2.

Today I need to tackle upstairs, make some soup and sort our clothes etc for the week. The elf has brought DD some Christmas craft bits so it’s card making today, and a morning walk. Ive taken mince out of the freezer for tea, and need to wash the breakfast bits up. 4 work days after today, the off for a week 🙌🏻. Happy flying everyone.

Morning all! Thanks for the birthday wishes 🥰 I didn’t get the hoped for lie in as I’d booked the tesco shop for 8-9 🤦🏻‍♀️ and Cagletini had a massive tantrum before they left for nursery too! But it’ll be a lazy day anyway.

🎄❄️🎁 Sunday 7th December 🎁❄️🎄

Zone - 2 - kitchen

Daily Focus - home bleugh!

Today’s Mission - spruce up your kitchen cabinets!

Today’s Holiday Mission - not updated yet so look back on the list if you want to here

✈️ FLIGHT PLAN ✈️

🎄❄️🎁 The Keep Calm Corner Advent Calendar 🎁❄️🎄

Silly memes about December birthdays 😂 (tongue in cheek, I would never actually object to a joint present 😂)

A question: What’s your favourite birthday present and/or memory?

My favourite present is probably this print that DH found for me a few years ago, it resides above my piano! And my favourite memory is probably from my 30th when I decided to have a meet up at the ice cream parlour. I’d not arranged anything for my birthday in ten years and had spent a good few years without really having many friends since moving here. But that day I realised that I did have lots of friends - we’d been home edding for about 18 months then and I’d found my people 🥰

Hey SC! Lovely to see you, and thank you 🥰

Bowerbird5 · 07/12/2020 09:50

Morning 🍒👋 SC definitely the right choice of name for the season. You can’t catch up there is waaaaayyy too much chatter. Most important news is we have a new baby and another one on the way. We have missed you and you have been mentioned several times but we understand you are so busy. Other important news- we have Hills back!

Right I need to get cracking. If DH isn’t going walking I might get him to get the tree. I have asked him to get the wreaths out but no luck. I need to do some of dining room this week too.

Spittingchestnuts · 07/12/2020 10:06
