My DC has just started secondary school and is wearing a blazer for the first time.

How often do you wash your child's blazer?

I just worry if i wash it too often it will lose its shape!

Thanks 🙂

I certainly couldn't wait until I smelt BO on it though Envy

frustrationcentral · 19/09/2020 17:33

Good question! DS2 has just started at a school with a blazer and I've been wondering about washing it

whirlwindwallaby · 19/09/2020 17:35

Every half term, unless he slips and falls in the mud.

katy1213 · 19/09/2020 17:35

There must be some whiffy classrooms!

The3Ls · 19/09/2020 17:35

Every week drys quick hung on a padded hanger. Both look brand new. Occasional extra Wash in-between. Yuk to once a term /half term

BlueCowWonders · 19/09/2020 17:36

At my dc (state) school, boys' blazers are dry clean only!
Girls' can be machine washed
I clean the blazers only very rarely. Clean shirt every day should mean little smelliness.

SpeedofaSloth · 19/09/2020 17:37

Every few weeks unless it looks/ smells like it needs doing more often.
Primary school blazers get dinner down them and often need a more frequent wash IME.

whirlwindwallaby · 19/09/2020 17:37

Those saying wash on 40, is there a reason for that? I usually do clothes on 30 and towels on 60 (30 if they are going to be out in the sun in summer). I've never used 40.

GuyFawkesDay · 19/09/2020 17:37

@katy1213 there are.

Polyester blazers wash really well. Dry clean only for school need banning!

I wash my son's with his school trousers at weekend.

Stinkyguineapig · 19/09/2020 17:52

I wash everything at 50 at the moment as I feel it would kill more germs.

LadyCatStark · 19/09/2020 20:50

DS started tear 7 this year and I’m washing it every Friday with his rugby kit (which hasn’t really got dirty so far so doesn’t need heavy washing). It doesn’t smell or get dirty but I want him to have a freshly cleaned blazer at the start of each week.

Svalberg · 19/09/2020 20:56

Mine never got washed, but it was made of wool, only worn in summer, and hung in the year cloakroom once I arrived at school. It then got handed down to my next sister. But this was the 70s and we never washed then...

I do 40 as I don’t feel 30 kills stuff off but I seem to shrink things at 60.
GrapeSodas · 20/09/2020 13:01

Once every half term on 40 as that is the delicates cycle.

Lemoncurd · 20/09/2020 13:07

Ours (2 different schools) all wash really well, so I do them at least weekly, more often if visibly dirty. They dry overnight, no problems. Eldest's withstood this for years, they only had two throughout secondary school and only got the second as a bigger size was needed.

What does the wash label say?
SavoyCabbage · 20/09/2020 13:11

I wash them every other week usually but I'm doing them every weekend now. One of my dds has had the same one for three years and it hasn't lost its shape. They would smell if they weren't washed.

slipperywhensparticus · 20/09/2020 13:16

Honestly? Rarely I wash the kids more often

I treat it like a coat and wash when needed

FelicityFisher · 21/09/2020 09:12

@whirlwindwallaby yes, washing at 30 doesn't get clothes clean. Well not as clean as I like them to be anyway!

Flaunch · 21/09/2020 09:25

How clean do you need them to be? Washing powder doesn’t need heat to get things clean.

Whathappenedtothelego · 21/09/2020 09:34

I do it once per term on a delicate wash with wool detergent.
It's a wool mix, so more faff to wash, but due to the wool less sweat-inducing so needs washing less often.

Polyester ones are easier to wash, but also much more likely to get sweaty and so need washing.

haba · 21/09/2020 09:34

I usually wash DD's each half term. I'm doing it every three weeks at present, but they're hung up at home away from all the other coats etc as they wear their blazers all day in school and not allowed to remove. (Well- at least it keeps their jumpers clean!)

ladymuck111 · 21/09/2020 09:35

I wash my DC every week. They dry quickly and they haven't lost shape or anything.

Clymene · 21/09/2020 09:36

Every couple of weeks. Teenagers pong

ladymuck111 · 21/09/2020 09:38

I mean I was my DC BLAZERS every week. I don't wash my DC every week Grin
