Where do you do your ironing?

We have a utility room with washer and drier. Washing gets collected into baskets then kept in spare room until ironed/folded. Ironing board permanently out and there is a hanging rail there for uniforms.

I want to turn this into "proper bedroom" for one of our kids so need to find another solution for the ironing mountain.

I suppose wash, dry, fold and put away in one go is one solution

Where do you keep your ironing boards when not in use?

It's propped against the wall of the utility room, probably with cobwebs on it as it's very rarely used. We use the "wash, dry, fold / hang" method.

When I say "we" I mean "I" of course: DH does the lawn-mowing, I do the laundry, apart from ironing. He lost interest in having freshly-ironed shirts once I explained to him that he had to do his own :)

In the downstairs cupboard hung up on the back of the door there. You can buy pegs for hanging your iron on

jellyfishdoodoodoo · 14/09/2020 23:42

Rarely iron though, realised a few years ago that I was wasting so much time ironing everything when you could barely notice any difference once it had been worn for five minutes.

Smallsteps88 · 14/09/2020 23:44

In my bedroom. It’s quite big and I do ironing for other people so I have a permanent ironing station set up. I have a bench/shelving thing with baskets in for stuff that is waiting to be ironed (it never has to wait too long in this house!)

PickAChew · 14/09/2020 23:45

In my kitchen diner, with the patio doors open, if it's warm, watching the bird feeders and listening to the radio. I keep the board down the side of a big larder cupboard.

AlwaysLatte · 14/09/2020 23:50

We're lucky in that we have a small laundry room but I do fold everything at the line outside straight into baskets (that go straight up to wardrobes) except about 5% that needs ironing. We keep it in the laundry until the basket is full then my husband irons it in the living room or kitchen in front of the TV while the kids are at school.

Bridecilla · 14/09/2020 23:57

We have a small utility room with the washer and dryer. Bench above them holds the iron, ironing basket and undies basket.

Ironing board is behind the door.

I iron in the kitchen diner in front of the telly. Dp sorts Undies and socks as I hate doing it!

I sort and iron into a fold out Aldi bag for each person. Dp chucks the sorted undies in too.

All done on Mondays as it's my day off.

I have an ironing board that looks like a kitchen drawer. You open it and the board pulls out. It’s very convenient and I was determined to have one when we did our kitchen. Having said that I Iron as little as possible.

msbevvy · 15/09/2020 02:11

Nowhere. Gave up doing that 30 years ago

Sertchgi123 · 15/09/2020 02:18

It’s unnecessary.

MrsPworkingmummy · 15/09/2020 03:06

I have an ironing board out almost permanently in our spare room. I only iron once every couple of weeks so have two airers constantly covered in clothes, as well as a basket full to the brim of clean stuff.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/09/2020 03:49

I got rid of my ironing board and bought a Brabantia ironing blanket that I use on the kitchen counter or tabletop. It's rolled up in a cupboard most of the time.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 15/09/2020 04:27

Our prison has a laundry room. We're not allowed to take the iron out as we might use it to flatten a guard. Grin

Nyclair · 15/09/2020 05:01

I don't.

sitckmansladylove · 15/09/2020 06:57

Ours is fitted into a drawer in the kitchen and I iron as stuff is dried. I dont like piles mounting up.

Ginfordinner · 15/09/2020 07:02

It didn't take long before the non ironers popped up Hmm

I iron because I have some clothes that require it, and, quite frankly they look all the better for it. I watch TV when ironing and set the ironing board up in the living room to do it. I don't hate ironing because I have very few clothes that require it. I also love the smell of ironing line dried clothes.

Namechangeforthis88 · 15/09/2020 07:02

No utility room here. Clothes that require ironing are folded and piled on the unpopular sofa. The ironing board lives in a cupboard. Ironing done in front of the telly.

happymummy12345 · 15/09/2020 07:03

I do it in the dining room

Standrewsschool · 15/09/2020 07:05

I usually do it in the lounge watching tv. Sometimes in the kitchen listening to the radio also.

Standrewsschool · 15/09/2020 07:06

Ironing board and iron kept in cupboard.

yearinyearout · 15/09/2020 07:48

In my bedroom so I can hang everything up straight away.

badg3r · 15/09/2020 08:48

I do my ironing in the past and that's where it will stay I hope 😂

Used to like ironing in the lounge in front of the tv when I still lived with my parents. I remember my my ironing all out clothes. I have one less kid than she did and get cold shivers thinking of ironing for my own family.

badg3r · 15/09/2020 08:48

My mum, that should read.

ScrapThatThen · 15/09/2020 08:51

DH keeps an ironing board in the downstairs cupboard and does it once a week (before lockdown/wfh - none done now). I just keep a mini iron and ironing board and do the odd thing that needs it as I put it on in the morning.

MrsMayo · 15/09/2020 08:52

Dont iron everything. Clothes are put away after washing then if they need ironing do it when needed. Ironing board is on a cupboard downstairs and used in the kitchen.
