What do you wash with your bath mat?

To balance your machine. Seems dirty to wash it with anything else.

Once a week with towels on a hot wash.

1940s · 14/09/2020 22:55

I can't express why I just don't like the thought of the bath mat that gets feet on it being on my flannels for my face

BiBabbles · 14/09/2020 22:56

I wash them with the large kitchen mat we have, that's normally enough for our machine, but my bath mats are pretty far from the toilet due to wonky bathroom layout so I'm not really concerned about them being dirty.

ineedaholidaynow · 14/09/2020 22:57

Why @1940s? You just step on it after having bath/shower when you are clean! What do you wash with your underwear, surely that is worse?

Theradioison · 14/09/2020 22:57

Dear God please tell me people don't just put two things in their washing machines, no wonder our poor planet is on its knees Sad

caringcarer · 14/09/2020 23:25

I throw in bathmat from bathroom with one from ensuite and wash together.

emptyshelvesagain · 14/09/2020 23:31

To balance your machine.

Balance the machine? I don't know what kind of bath mat you have OP but mine are standard bath mats which do not unbalance the washing machine.

Seems dirty to wash it with anything else.

What on earth do you use your bath mat for?

Mine goes in the machine with the towels.

TimeIhadaNameChange · 14/09/2020 23:34

I split by color and that's it. San pro and nappies go with the bath mat, tea towels and clothes. I don't think any of us are dead.

YourWinter · 14/09/2020 23:57

This baffles me - the point of a washing machine is you put dirty things in, the dirty water drains out, the load is rinsed a couple of times in clean water, it all comes out clean. I can see why you might separate dark and light colours, but how dirty do you think your bath mat is??
I'd wash mine with towels but it wouldn't bother me to have the mat or towels in with anything else.

SoupDragon · 15/09/2020 07:45

What do you wash your face flannels with then? Something clean?

Socks have been near your feet, pants have been by your bum, towels have dried eveywhere...

whirlwindwallaby · 15/09/2020 07:49

With the towels, flannels, teatowels and dishcloths.

1940s · 15/09/2020 09:26

I just can't explain why I do it! I also do all my tea towels on a separate wash too as I don't like the thought of them in with my clothes.

PickAChew · 15/09/2020 09:28

Towels. Maybe with an extra rinse if it's a bit minging.

SoupDragon · 15/09/2020 09:30

I just can't explain why I do it!

Our brains are weird sometimes. 😂 I have loads of irrational things like that.

RedRiverShore · 15/09/2020 09:33

Maybe prewash the dirty bathmat, then just before the main cycle starts put the other washing in, I have done this before with DHs smelly fishing clothes, that I don't want a fishy taint on other stuff, so that they get a short wash and drain first before the main wash goes in.

poshme · 15/09/2020 09:52

Surely OP you need a separate washing machine for things that have touched different parts of you?
So a washing machine for socks & bath mats.
A washing machine for pants & nappies & san pro
A machine for things that touch your face.

Because surely you don't allow the machine that has touched feet things to then touch face things!!!Shock

(I put mine in with whatever else needs washing- today that was a couple of towels & a few bits of clothing)

poshme · 15/09/2020 09:53

@RedRiverShore prewash of fishy things sounds v sensible.

Beamur · 15/09/2020 09:56

Same.
AyDeeAitchDee · 15/09/2020 09:56

Towels. On a hot wash.

Aerielview · 15/09/2020 14:23

I wash them with cloths that I've used for cleaning

MitziK · 15/09/2020 16:14

Crappy towels - the type you only keep for mopping up after cleaning the washing machine filter or defrosting the freezer - plus the mop heads and cloths.

ineedaholidaynow · 15/09/2020 16:55

If people wash their bath mats separately, do you wash your underwear separately?

MitziK · 15/09/2020 17:08

@ineedaholidaynow

I wash mine separately to everything else because they're different colours, different materials and need different treatment to a bunch of jeans and DP's work wear (no fabric softener, for a start).

I got fed up of greying bras and pink tinged knickers decades ago.

NewToRenting · 20/09/2020 17:22

Separate wash. Bath mats, foot rugs, dusting/ wiping cloths and sponges, trainers and rubber flipflops, shower curtains.

MeadowHay · 20/09/2020 19:44

I was my bath mat with towels and sometimes bedding too. Same as PP who washes all these at 60.
