What do you wash with your bath mat?

To balance your machine. Seems dirty to wash it with anything else.

OP posts:

Is your bathroom floor particularly revolting, OP?! GrinI’m struggling to see how a bath mat, with clean feet on it, is somehow nastier than a bath towel that’s been rubbed in armpits and crotch, or a week’s worth of knickers and sweaty socks!
I stick all the whites in one machine load, and all the colours in another.
I’ve done that for 50 years- nobody seems to have come to harm as a result.
Just stop worrying and bung it in with the rest of your wash. It’s what your machine is for!

RedRiverShore · 14/09/2020 17:14

I generally do it with my towels as it is made out of towelling type stuff

Nonamesavail · 14/09/2020 17:15

I just wash most stuff together. At 40. No one got ill yet!

RedRiverShore · 14/09/2020 17:17

The only thing that stops me putting bathmats in with clothes is that the fluff could come off on them.

Floralnomad · 14/09/2020 17:18

I do them with the towels .

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 14/09/2020 17:19

@WinterAndRoughWeather

Yes we always hang the bath mat on the towel rail after use, else it stays damp.

I do find toilet mats gross though (not that it would stop me bunging them in any old wash), I can’t see the appeal. If there are men in the house, that mat is guaranteed to be soaked with piss.

God yes! Toilet mats are gross!
WinterAndRoughWeather · 14/09/2020 17:20

Oh dear. My clothes are always covered in fluff from washing them with towels. I just don’t have enough darks to separate them without it being a wastefully small wash.

hopeishere · 14/09/2020 17:21

@Gumbo

I have 3 so I wash them together with all the toilet mats and the little indoor doormat that's by the back door.
Toilet mats?? Like those things that go round the pedestals?? Do people still use them.
Ashdownstar · 14/09/2020 17:25

Hmm, if you keep towels long enough they stop shedding fluff. Its the reason I don't wash dog bedding with clothes though
These threads always interest me - who washes what with what, and at what temperature.
I'd never put cleaning cloths in with tea towels for example, less to do with germs and more to do with what chemicals have gone on the cleaning cloth.
We're all different and isn't that nice?

ZarasHouse · 14/09/2020 17:31

Whatever else needs washing, usually towels too. Ours don't get a chance to get dirty. Bathroom is clean, Kids soak Bath Mat through on every use. We actually have two bath mats now. One for morning baths/showers, the other for evening baths/showers.

Clymene · 14/09/2020 17:31

I wash dog towels and bedding separately, only because they're so hairy/muddy and the machine needs a clean afterwards. All human stuff gets washed together, with appropriate temperatures.

Surely bathmats are less dirty than towels really if they just have clean feet standing on them and absorb drips!

jackstini · 14/09/2020 17:50

The matching towels - they all go in together

notso · 14/09/2020 17:56

I either put them all on a quick wash which only needs a few items or put them in with the towels.

TinyMetalBirds · 14/09/2020 18:01

I don't like them either, but I always thought that is the point of them - you can wash the piss off the mat regularly but if it soaks into your floor, there's going to be piss there forever. On the other hand, most bathrooms are tiled unlike our own floorboarded one so piss would not soak in. So I don't know. Maybe it is to keep people's feet warm when they are on the loo?

Cynderella · 14/09/2020 18:24

I now have hotel style white towel-mats. I wash with white towels and sheets. They're thin compared to a padded or backed mat and I have four so they can go into the washing pile every couple of days.

AnnaSW1 · 14/09/2020 19:30

I wash it on it's own too

CouldBeOuting · 14/09/2020 21:03

With towels, face cloths and my reusable makeup remover pads. A nice hot wash.

notso · 14/09/2020 22:18

Eww not in my house. My bath mats are used for after a shower only (we don't have a bath) then they get put on the towel rails to dry.

notso · 14/09/2020 22:20

Oh sorry! The comment was about toilet mats. We don't have those they're fugly.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 14/09/2020 22:25

With whatever is going in the colours wash. How is a bath mat getting filthy? We stand on it when we get out the bath, then hang it over the bath to dry. I chuck it in the machine when I remember.
Am I the only person who lives with males but doesn't have piss all over the floor? I can't remember the last time they pissed on the floor or toilet seat Confused

Cockadoodledooo · 14/09/2020 22:33

Towels. And whatever else is on the bathroom floor at the time 🙄

Cockadoodledooo · 14/09/2020 22:35

I don't and never have had a toilet mat. I thought they went out in the 80s?

ineedaholidaynow · 14/09/2020 22:43

Why is a bath mat so bad it has to be washed on it's own?

1940s · 14/09/2020 22:49

I'm with OP. Can't bear to wash it with anything else so I wash it with the cloths I clean the bathroom with on the day I do the bathroom

notangelinajolie · 14/09/2020 22:51

I wash bath mats with towels.

Am I missing something? Why are your bath mats so dirty that you can't wash them with something else?
