Social distancing around the Maypole: Fledglings fly into Flylady thread May 2020.

Lisette1940 · 30/04/2020 15:16

Welcome to the May Flylady thread Fledglings! We are finally coming to the end of Spring and, erm, what a Spring it has been. Keep safe everyone and a special shoutout to Fledglings who are in the frontline of the response to Covid 19.
Lane has been superlative with the keep calm corner and has had a truly magnificent engagement with fledglings all through April – well done Lane!!! I have totally abandoned my routines (and my clean eating) and have been flying perilously close to the ground but am ready for take off again. But we operate a no fledgling left behind policy and indeed Flylady herself stresses that you are never behind in the system – no need to deep clean the house first, just jump right in.
All are welcome here from longtimers to newbie and those lurking – we all follow this zone-based Flylady cleaning system:
There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
MAY
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – Sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sun 31)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look here but be aware that lots of emails arrive if you sign up.

Flylady has an introductory scheme called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc here.

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of May is moving – whether that’s your daily get out of the house during lockdown or in house movement. – moving is not my strongest point apart from pottering around the house…
We also have a naughty corner as a restful break out space and a Keep Calm Corner (KCC). I suspect I’ll be better at the naughty corner rather than the latter but I’ll do my best! Not sure I can muster the memes but I’ll do my best to keep spirits up.
So welcome to the new thread (I hope I haven’t left anyone out): Lane, SC, zoo, Bower, KTCluck, Willow/Megiddo, foxes, That, averytiredMom, fluffliest, ED, Strawberry, Chic, Hazel, Happiness, Cineraria, We3, stressy, and give.

And breathe!

icy hope you can get some heat in that neck and it's better tom

Seems a lacklustre day for many of us fledglings.dd2hasctook a total dive pm.retreated to bed, very depressed.hoping tomorrow's a better day.ive lured her down with fave food and promises extensive fave TV show watching...

JigoloHarMegiddo · 11/05/2020 20:15

Ah, thank you all for kind words. I think it was just an attack of the Mondays, coupled with poor sleep and my breakfast being so disappointing. I read the feedback afterwards and it all said "really nice once I'd added honey" or "great with apple juice" or "amazing made with 6 totally different things"! Tomorrow morning I'm trying bullet proof coffee. Watch this space!

Thank you for other breakfast suggestions too. I'm trying to do really serious keto for 2 weeks to kickstart things and break the cravings. I've done a whole day now... am I 9st 5 yet? 😁

My missing parcel also turned up, so I have a lovely new actual waterproof and a pretty spring frock. I feel much better for both of them. I might do the dog walk again tomorrow to test out my coat.

Other ta das today:
♥️ DW rotated
🧡 S&S
💛 2 x LOL
💚 3 hrs writing for a client
💙 Nice nap on the sofa!
💜 Got DS2 up and got him to do some work. Go me!
🖤 Made delicious Indian food for tea and everyone ate some without whingeing. There's a portion for me left over in the fridge for lunch tomorrow. I'll take that as a win!

Now I am hiding in the bath with a final cup of decaff and then I am having an early night!

Sorry about your neck Icy, hope you recover soon. Can you use ibuprofen gel on it?

Well done with homework / school, Lane and foxes. Zoo, massive list there again, sorry DD2 isn't great. Fluffiest and KT, quite understand your concern about getting not-quite-school-age DC ready to face such things. SC, unless your DH is prepared to put all the clothes, sheets and towels in the bath with water and laundry powder, walk up and down on them until they are clean and then wring, rinse and wring again by hand, you need a new machine! Perhaps you should put him in touch with Mr Foxes and ask him to share his laundry skills? 😂

IcyWind · 11/05/2020 20:55

Thank you sc, have put some heat on it now. It feels a bit better. They really enjoyed their day, just trying to stay as happy as I can for them!.

That’s good to hear lane. Hopefully there’s some info about her returning to school soon. It must be difficult living in limbo.

fox I do agree, Monday’s are a struggle for flying for me. Hopefully I wake up feeling fresher tomorrow.

Thank you zoo

meg I’m glad you’re feeling a bit better and your parcel showed up!. I’ve popped some ibuprofen gel on it, hoping it goes soon. I’m such a wussBlush

KTCluck · 11/05/2020 22:41

Hi everyone. I got all caught up and then got all emotional watching Hospital on BBC 2 and have now forgotten what I wanted to say Blush.

Thanks That. Feeling a bit better today as it’s been confirmed furlough is continuing and needing childcare is still a valid reason, plus DH’s boss isn’t putting him under pressure so far. My DSis is happy to have her if necessary (I meant family member in my earlier post, not just a random family Grin) but it seems that’s definitely still a no no. Feeling a bit of mum guilt though that I was hoping nursery would open soonish as another parent has posted that her child certainly won’t be going back on the 1st June. Must be nice to have a choice Sad although I may be picking up the tone wrong and being too sensitive.

Icy hope your neck is better soon.

Glad Mondayitis is abating Meg. I’m a regular sufferer and a disappointing breakfast can really worsen the symptoms.

SC I’m jumping on the ‘buy a new one’ bandwagon if the YouTube videos don’t get it sorted. If you could get an engineer quickly then fair enough but you have enough on your plate without being buried under a pile of laundry.

Hope the TV marathon does the job for your DD2 Zoo.

Hope you’re ok Bower

Gorgeous pics Hazel, love the tree.

Waves to Lisette, Lane, Foxes Expletive, Chic, Cineraria, We3 I know I’m forgetting someone and I had more I wanted to say but it’s gone.

Favourite summer holiday memories are the excitement of arriving in our haven caravans every year as little ones, and also hours of fun chucking each other off pool inflatables on our first holiday abroad with extended family.

Work today so not much flying, but I did get up in time to do some yoga, make a salad for lunch and s & s before work. I also stuck to eating healthily and within my calorie budget today, and have gone to bed with a tidy living room and a shiny sink.

Dancingtomusic · 11/05/2020 23:59

Big cheery wave to everyone.

I have finally caught up with the thread. Been decluttering in bits, tidying in bits and doing alittle bit of art for myself.

Sc (girding my loins for floor) lol. Glad it not just me.
Hazel hope your wm gets fixed. Agree wm is essential in life. I love my dishwasher, washing machine then my family.

Meg hope you are feeling better.

Icy keeping neck warm with a scarf around the house might help too.

Hazel they are beautiful pictures of your flowers.

Jig i hope the coffee helps you tomorrow.

Zoo I hope your dd is ok and tv helps.

Foxes constant questions from the kids is hard. Thats what my day has been like. Lol.

Lane homeschooling is tough. Did you describe art in your post as place you like visiting? It was nice to hear.

Fluffiest hope you get to spend cosy time with your little one.

Kct glad you feel better. I wanted to watch hospital too, i would have cried too.

Lisette woolly hats and scarfs, has the snow gone? Is it still very cold? I have always dreamed of visiting scotland. I love the 90s bbc program that was based there with Lexie and Archie.

ED, That i read all your post on the previous page but I cant go back or I will lose this post. Hoping that you both are ok and are having a good evening.

Cant remember who said it but they built big forts in the beach and used seashells as decorations - sounds like a wonderful childhood.

Hiya and wave to Bower, cineria and chic.

Night everyone.
Sorry for the terrible grammar, I am abit tired now.

LaneBoy · 12/05/2020 00:47

ta da
💡weighed self - 1.8lb down so hopefully that means I’m back on track now
💡got kids motivated for learning tasks somehow!
💡printed stuff for DS’ poster and got him to actually draw stuff
💡various LOLs/drying
💡delegated moving of more games upstairs
💡workout
💡finished therapy session write up from a few weeks ago
💡a few more tasks on the futurelearn course (not heard from the counselling skills one yet) - was really nice to actually be writing notes again and Officially Learn Stuff
💡started implementing new chore chart
💡put a few kitchen bits away
💡dusted and shelved more games
💡wrote next list of stuff to take up and what games we need to play soon (to decide if we want to keep them)
💡started taking Cagletini’s books upstairs to sort (WIP)
💡started organising workout exercises properly (WIP)
💡bit of English with DD1, printed out the next few bits, as it turns out she’s far more behind than I realised - main target for tomorrow
💡laid down the law with DD1 regarding phone use during the day. Really didn’t want it to come to this and she’s upset but it’s got to a ridiculous level now and even the easy work is taking hours
💡read some Important Stuff on gov uk
💡wrote a Very Scary Email to her head of year
💡helped DH make his work election thing, it should be really simple but I think having to help another person is pushing me over the edge after helping the kids all day/month
💡looked at/wrote down some ideas for DD1’s 13th next month. Although the art stuff may be given sooner if I can as I’m happy she has a decent hobby and want to encourage it!
💡posted in a group trying to find ideas to help DS with read aloud skills

Really must try and sleep, I have therapy in the morning

HungryHazelEyes · 12/05/2020 03:27

icy my chiropractor had told me you can help adjust yourself by simply using a rolled up towel. Lay flat on the floor, roll up a towel so it fits perfectly in the crook of your neck, tuck it as high up as you can (to the base of your skull), you will feel some pressure, but shouldn't feel too much, and lay like that for 5 minutes (set a timer). He said to only do it twice a week, 5 minutes each time as you can overdo it. It would be worth a try if you can.

meg good luck with the bulletproof coffee. I was drinking that myself, started out with only half a TBSP of butter and coconut oil as well as 1-2 TBSP heavy whipping cream. It was good, took a little getting used to though so don't feel disheartened if you don't like it. The important thing to note though is to blend it as it makes it super creamy. I'm sure you already know this, but just incase you didn't 😉

Thank you everyone for complimenting my garden, I'm going to get some flowers this coming weekend so I'll post more then! I feel much better today about mothers day. I treated myself on my way home, got a new watering can (mine had a leak last year so had to toss it) and new gloves as mine have holes. I didn't even worry about the price! DH tells me I should have told him to get me that stuff for mother's day, but I shouldn't have to. He didn't even ask me what I wanted although he's insisting he did 🤨

At work we are going back to normal schedule starting tomorrow, so I'm off, but will work the rest of the week. My house will suffer, I'm sure!

HungryHazelEyes · 12/05/2020 03:35

I forgot, my favourite holiday growing up was probably at Butlins in Wales (or one like Butlins, I don't remember). I remember trying mushy peas and gravy on chips and falling in love! More importantly I love Wales and have been there a few times, once with my friend and her family, they rented a cottage in a hamlet, was creepy as hell, but they had a good pub within walking distance so that worked out.

We have gone back to the UK for a few holidays, love it every time. I went to Las Vegas with DH and some friends and had a blast, we're not that far away from it and want to go back.

HungryHazelEyes · 12/05/2020 04:41

dancing I think it may have been meg that had the wm problem, which is hope is an easy fix.

lane great job on your weight loss!

I don't remember what anyone else put, but 👋 to all fledglings!

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/05/2020 05:54

Morning.ive set self challenge to go to bed AND not get up if can't sleep til at least 5.started my day with couple chapters if a book!

Dancingtomusic · 12/05/2020 06:04

Oops sorry hungry.

I have reading the mumsnets classics, just read tiny koren lady. Definately a classic.Smile

foxessocks · 12/05/2020 07:48

Well done zoo! I usually read Mumsnet and / or a book in bed with a coffee before I get up, it gives me a tiny space of peace before the madness starts. Ds usually breaks the peace by shouting muuuuuuummyyyyy I'm hungryyyyyyy in a pitiful way like I've abandoned him without food for hours rather than about 30 minutes Grin

So it's a half day of working today so hopefully I will achieve a bit more flying wise, hopefully a bit of exercise, decluttering etc.

Stilllivinginazoo · 12/05/2020 09:49

Thanks foxes ok must admit that quiet time to start the day was nice and necessary as lil zoo had three strops already and dd2 isn't much better

Tada
Wash on
Cats fed
Bleach lav
Sweep lower floors
Wash up
Wake D's for snack
Clean dining table
Clean tumble drier filters
Exercise with D's 30 mins
Wash in drier,more on
Breakfasts sorted
S+s
Littertray
Bins
Make effort and plait my hair
Dd2 ask me braid hers
Sort D's schooling for the day plan
Tell lil zoo not sorting washing, and leave earrings ON THE BEDROOM FLOOR

Now off on walk with dd2 try perk her up.

Bowerbird5 · 12/05/2020 10:08

zoo I found that helpful and sometimes dozed off after a while of reading a book. Im here thanks. Not 100%

I am also worried about them sending children back to school especially the groups chosen. Yr 6 fair enough but the little ones will not be able to keep their distance. I am worried for them and I am worried for me. I think if I am asked to go in before September it will be the end of the line. Before this I thought I would try and go back but I know how upset my children would be if I did and caught it. I have asthma I have been coughing for about 8 weeks. Not as bad as I was but still every day and TMI coughing up phlegm. I had to look up the spelling of that what a strange word is it from Latin Lane?

Feeling a bit despondent again today.
We did a shop yesterday well DH did and I went for a ride out I know I shouldn't really but was getting anxious. Felt better afterwards and saw they had tomato bags so got DH to get two as I am using good compost. So todays job is to pot up more tomatoes.I have given nine away and DS1 doesn't want any this year Confused so I will have 8or9 I usually do 6. some broad beans are showing themselves Grin good.
Hens are settled in well though Ziggy isn't happy and has fluffed up.This morning it dawned on me that she may be going into moult and it has nothing to do with her three inmates. The others have started laying three eggs a day.

Neighbours are still not isolating and that makes me anxious. They pass our window so you know they are going to each others houses. One is working in the NHS I can't believe the stupidity. Another person in the village has noticed so I am pleased I am not alone in finding it upsetting. She said it made her anxious so was pleased to hear that it was making me feel that way. We get on quite well as we both like crafts.

Flylady.
Getting some bits done but not all. Spent a lot of time on the garden which looks amazing except for the middle bit around the green house. We need pots away and to pot up final plants. The new seat looks fantastic so pleased DH bought it.
Bathroom
still no shower and just have the basin bath every two days and getting quicker. Have an arm pit wash at basin other days.

Need to

tidy and sort clothes in Boudoir
wash kitchen floor
will wash shower tray out, still no word form builder it would be possible to not see each other if we antiseptic the bathroom before and after. There is a door straight up stairs from the front. We use side door anyway.
Vacuum

Bowerbird5 · 12/05/2020 10:10

Big waves to everyone I am not going to list.

Oh Hazel loved the plant pictures made my day. Is the first one a Quince ornamental as I have one and it looks similar but yours has larger flowers.

Smartcasual · 12/05/2020 10:49

Morning all! Mrs Mop checking in!

Still in midst of never-ending home bleugh - just stopping for elevenses - allowing myself one rye cracker with my coffee.

Good to hear your neck is improving Icy and also that you are taking some quiet time for yourself Zoo! And happy to hear mother's day came good in the end Hazel, enjoy your purchases!

Wow that is a mega list there Lane bravo! Star. Well done re: weight loss too!

What sort of art do you do Dancing if you don't mind me asking?

I meant to say in answer to the skills question that I have always wanted to learn how to paint with oils. I did a course some years back but it only scratched the surface. Do you paint or draw? Or both?

And bravo KTCluck for getting up early to do yoga and prep healthy food. That is very impressive! You also sound v on top of Flying Star

Ha! Don't worry I'll make sure dh gets the message about the new wm loud and clear Megiddo. Grin Thank you! Grin. And whoo hoo to lost parcel turning up and everyone enjoying your curry! We need little filips like that ATM!

Zoo meant to say, so sorry dd2 so stressed. This is a very difficult time for 16 yr olds I think. Dd is also very up and down so I really sympathise. She is meant to be going in to school this week to clear her locker but we don't have any details yet.

So sorry you are suffering with asthma Bower and I am not surprised you are anxious about going back to school. Flowers. Take it steady Cake.

🍒 Waves to Foxes Lisette Honu Shannara Expletive Chic Fluffiest Averytiredmom We3kings Cineraria, That, Strawberrysundae Happiness MrsHardy Santas and everyone else! (Sorry if I haven't taken account of the odd name change there or have missed anyone out! Getting a bit muddled in my old age!).

Hope you are ok Toostressy - #No Fledgling Left Behind!

Smartcasual · 12/05/2020 10:52

Meant to say Bower very happy to hear new inmates settling in well! Hope Henny Penny/Ziggy not too put out! 🐓🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔🐔

The images are two words I'm quite taken with. I'm learning Scottish Gaelic at the moment. I have school level Irish which I can't remember how to pronounce. However I have been surprised at how similar Irish and Scottish Gaelic are - I expected some similarities but in practice I understand virtually all the vocabulary. The pronunciation is very different I find.

I find I balter naturally Grin

KCC question is - what is your favourite go to cookery book? I like Scottish baker Sue Laurence's Book of Baking

Also I had no idea there is a polite form of you in Scottish Gaelic (sibh). It's also used as you plural but in Irish it's only used as you plural.

Not being able to roll my r is a bit of a problem too.

Bowerbird5 · 12/05/2020 12:15

Oh it is back. I got kicked off Mumsnet on the iPad and couldn’t remember password.

My sister speaks some Gaelic Lisette and her children were fluent as little ones and went to a Gaelic school. They didn’t learn to read in English until about 8. Then were immersed in English in almost all subject. My brother in law was Gaelic speaking and so is my other brother in law.😆

IcyWind · 12/05/2020 15:09

Afternoon all! Thanks for all the advice about the neck, it feels better today. I will try that hazel.

lane well done on the weight loss!

hazel I’m happy to hear you’re feeling better about Mother’s Day!. I’m looking forward to seeing more garden pictures!. I love wales too, I always went as a child.

Well done on your challenege zoo!

It is scary isn’t it bower, I too don’t understand how young children can be expected to social distance. And if they are expected to I’m worried for your physical health. Sorry about your neigbours too, it is annoying seeing people not socially distance. I just hope that the new rules don’t mean the death tolls sky rocket.

I think I’m going to download an app to do my meal planning and activities planning. I feel like I’m wasting paper when I’m writing it in my notebook. My go to cookery book is probably the hairy bikers one pot one.

My little sister has her birthday today. I feel terrible though as I was meant to FaceTime her to see her open her presents at 7, but my phone was in my bedroom and I completely lost track of time as DS1 spilt his breakfast on the carpet so I was cleaning that up. I have wished her a happy birthday but she hasnt replied as I think they’re off out for a picnic.

Ta Da’s

Made bed
Got dressed
Breakfast
some home school activities done
Lunch

HungryHazelEyes · 12/05/2020 15:36

It's good to see you back on here bower if I'm remembering correctly the first picture was a close up of my trees. I have 2 fire crab apple trees. The petals are starting to be blown away now though. I hope you are keeping well. Hopefully your cough will go away soon. It's your asthma worse with the cough? Mine gets bad at times, lots of wheezing if I cough a lot.

icy I'm glad your neck is starting to feel a bit better.

meg I'm glad you enjoyed the bullet proof coffee. If you ever need any tips or advice (like how to avoid keto flu) you can ask me. I've been eating keto for over 2 years now.

lane I forgot to mention that you had an impressive list, and hope your therapy session goes well today. (Or went well, as I'm behind!)

Ta Das so far (not many yet, 8:30am here);

🌺 made DH breakfast, had to cook more sausage meat and grate more cheese, he was grateful I made it as he forgot he needed more made and wouldn't have had time this morning.

🌺 cleaned up after making breakfast.

🌺 now drinking my 2nd cup of coffee before getting up and moving about
